River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
Good value
The course was in good condition except the greens had been aeriated and the grass had not been cut so they were slower than usual. The cart path are very bumpy and the carts are a bit dated. All this aside we enjoyed our round and the staff was attentative. The beverage cart girl came around often. It is a good value.
Nice Layout
I enjoyed playing here for the 1st time. There was a nice variety of holes and the staff was very cordial. The only negatives were some wild grasses growing on a few tees and greens and the cup holes were almost universally damaged.
Good value at $30
But not much more would I pay . Greens are awful - slow as molasses and that for me is 7/10 of any golf course. No way i'd pay the rack rate of $79+. Very nice course design, water, trees, enough challenge for me, an 11 handicap. Played the blues - 6350. Nice distance there, used all the clubs in the bag.
Greens have been poor for years, keeps me away unless I am with newer golfers, higher handicap golfers.
Great Weather, Solid Course.
It was a fun track and conditions were very good. They say it was a cart mandatory course but you could easily walk this one.
River Run Review
Fun course to play, offers challenges for an intermediate golfer, but they can be met. Very quiet area, pace moved along okay.
Hot
We played as a threesome. It was about 90 degrees and 90% humidity. Brutal conditions to play mid-day, but the price was right. $30 a person!!! To make matters worse, I guess a storm rolled through the night before and dumped a bunch of rain on the course so it was cart path only. Yes, that's exactly what I want to do......walk around trying to find my ball from path to fairway while I'm dripping with sweat. Thankfully a foursome let us play through around hole 5 and we basically had the course to ourselves. Played a little under 4 hours. I love the track. Oh, and range balls are free with the greens fees, so get there early and hit as many as you want. The front 9 is links style and the back 9 is tree lined. Greens were very slow!! That is my major complaint about the course. Other then that I love playing River Run.
River Run.... On the fence about this course
Nice course but I was not overly impressed. The greens were painfully slow and after reading a few reviews, I guess that is the way they keep them at River Run. The layout is fun from the mounding to the bunkering (thankfully I didn't find one at day) and shots with water coming into play. The fairways were in very good shape. You are given a card with the hole layouts and distances to bunkers and water hazards which comes in handy because there is plenty of doglegs which driver is not needed. Not an overly long course. The front 9 is open and the back is tighter. They push a 4 hour round pace there. We had no one in front of us and a foursome a hole behind us going into the 12th hole and a ranger stopped us on the tee and asked us to pick our play up. That puzzled us because we finished our round in 3 hours and 45 minutes exactly. I got the round for a $29 hot deal on GolfNow on a Thursday at noon. I would play this course again at that rate but I don't think I would pay to much more than that.
Nice layout/mature trees
All good! The course was a challenge with narrow fairways and length. Had a great time!
Best course in the area for the money
River Run is in my opinion the best course in the area for the money.
Mr.
Worth the money when purchased on Golf Now.
Many greens looked as overplayed - need to be rolled - or other maintenance... Yes, would return. They never have enough golf balls on free driving range. Noticed this several times.
Can't wait to play it again
This was the first time our foursome had played the course and we all want to get back soon. Everyone was very friendly.
Great day of golf!
River Run was a pleasant surprise!
Well maintained course!
Great appetizers and friendly staff!
Wild Bill
Fun layout a bit pricey. I enjoyed the course the staff was friendly The clubhouse is not fancy but gets the job done. I would play it again .
Great Course, Slow Greens
Overall, River Run was a great golf course with a fun, but playable layout. The only "complaint" i would have is that the greens were extremely slow, but the course was in great shape and provided a fun round of golf.
Holiday Round
Always enjoy a round at Gary Player's River Run, at least 14 really interesting holes through the marshes, & meadows next to the St. Martins river. Tee to green excellent, greens consistent but a little slow, perhaps the downpour prior night did not allow them to cut. 5.5 hrs, due to cart path only, and a holiday packed course, overall enjoyable round.
A fun track
Not too long but well designed to have you hit a broad assortment of clubs. Greens were a little slow but they were still healing from aeration. Pace of play got bogged down due to a group of senior golfers that did not play ready golf - oh well. Overall an enjoyable outing and worth the money.
Great Value - Excellent family course!
Course was in VERY good condition. Very fair, greens ran true. EXCELLENT place to bring your son or daughter in the afternoon. Not a place with quick food service unless the grill/shack is open at the turn. Kind of a neighborhood club but very nice, friendly staff. Laid back. Let everyone play in a relaxed fashion. Much better condition than I recalled years ago when I played. My son & I got paired up & really enjoyed it! Give it a try!!

Course is in excellent condition. Some of the best fairways in the area. Staff was great showed up at the course on the wrong day, but they still accepted the great Golf Now rate.
