River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
Consistently good.
Good shape, always enjoy playing here. Good value for under $40.
loved it
a little tight with houses and ob but will travel the 2 hours to play there again. not very long but challenging with tight holes and small greens. big tee boxes provide the potential for a lot of variety of tee shots
Great Day
Any golf in January is good golf. River Run was in good shape. The staff was vary help and made the day most enjoyable.
Very good course, great staff
Course in excellent condition and Bob and Tim were most friendly and helpful. This layout will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Highly recommended.
Great Course
We play 2 rounds in OCMD every October and this is the 1st time we played River Run in 10 years. The course was in great shape and the staff was really nice. We will play River Run again next year.
Greens in good condition.
Excellent value with golf now and course was it good condition.
Underrated Course
I have golfed at all the Ocean City Golf Courses. This is one of my favorites. The price and quality of this course beats paying the ridiculous prices that a few of the other courses are charging.
The fairways are in fantastic condition. The greens were slow and they are mostly straight forward putts.
Friendly staff
Very nice course, layout was good. Greens good, black tee boxes needed help.close to the beach easy to get to.
River Run
Greens aerated a week prior to play but was told they were recovering well - not true, greens were terrible. Fairways were soggy, squishy in many places and yet we have not had a lot of rain lately. Appeared they are over watering the fairways - no fairway roll and lots of fat shots. The rough was uncut for many days and very difficult to play out of. The above mentioned conditions gave the impression they don't care about the patrons this time of year, which is just before the fall package season. I have played here before and was very pleased with course conditions but not this time.
Seems like many courses in this area are doing the above.
Worth the $25 I paid
I read some of the reviews before I played this course and still decided because it was $25 to give it a shot.. The food at the restaurant was not bad at all and the staff was awesome.. The course is another story.. Overall it was not a bad course except for: A couple of blind doglegs that sometimes make no sense, houses litterally 5 yards outside of the rough, small greens on most holes and a lot of divots in the fairways, and let's be honest- is this "really" a Gary player golf course??!!... the free range balls was defiantly a plus, but The "starter"and the "ranger" seemed to careless about helping you with getting a cart( just take whatever) where the range was or how to navigate a very "different" course layout...overall, I got to play 18 holes at 9am 15(ish) miles outside of the coastal highway and my group was done with enough time to get back to the beach....
Good value
The course was in good condition except the greens had been aeriated and the grass had not been cut so they were slower than usual. The cart path are very bumpy and the carts are a bit dated. All this aside we enjoyed our round and the staff was attentative. The beverage cart girl came around often. It is a good value.
Nice Layout
I enjoyed playing here for the 1st time. There was a nice variety of holes and the staff was very cordial. The only negatives were some wild grasses growing on a few tees and greens and the cup holes were almost universally damaged.
Good value at $30
But not much more would I pay . Greens are awful - slow as molasses and that for me is 7/10 of any golf course. No way i'd pay the rack rate of $79+. Very nice course design, water, trees, enough challenge for me, an 11 handicap. Played the blues - 6350. Nice distance there, used all the clubs in the bag.
Greens have been poor for years, keeps me away unless I am with newer golfers, higher handicap golfers.
Great Weather, Solid Course.
It was a fun track and conditions were very good. They say it was a cart mandatory course but you could easily walk this one.
River Run Review
Fun course to play, offers challenges for an intermediate golfer, but they can be met. Very quiet area, pace moved along okay.
Hot
We played as a threesome. It was about 90 degrees and 90% humidity. Brutal conditions to play mid-day, but the price was right. $30 a person!!! To make matters worse, I guess a storm rolled through the night before and dumped a bunch of rain on the course so it was cart path only. Yes, that's exactly what I want to do......walk around trying to find my ball from path to fairway while I'm dripping with sweat. Thankfully a foursome let us play through around hole 5 and we basically had the course to ourselves. Played a little under 4 hours. I love the track. Oh, and range balls are free with the greens fees, so get there early and hit as many as you want. The front 9 is links style and the back 9 is tree lined. Greens were very slow!! That is my major complaint about the course. Other then that I love playing River Run.
River Run.... On the fence about this course
Nice course but I was not overly impressed. The greens were painfully slow and after reading a few reviews, I guess that is the way they keep them at River Run. The layout is fun from the mounding to the bunkering (thankfully I didn't find one at day) and shots with water coming into play. The fairways were in very good shape. You are given a card with the hole layouts and distances to bunkers and water hazards which comes in handy because there is plenty of doglegs which driver is not needed. Not an overly long course. The front 9 is open and the back is tighter. They push a 4 hour round pace there. We had no one in front of us and a foursome a hole behind us going into the 12th hole and a ranger stopped us on the tee and asked us to pick our play up. That puzzled us because we finished our round in 3 hours and 45 minutes exactly. I got the round for a $29 hot deal on GolfNow on a Thursday at noon. I would play this course again at that rate but I don't think I would pay to much more than that.
Nice layout/mature trees
All good! The course was a challenge with narrow fairways and length. Had a great time!
Best course in the area for the money
River Run is in my opinion the best course in the area for the money.
Mr.
Worth the money when purchased on Golf Now.
Many greens looked as overplayed - need to be rolled - or other maintenance... Yes, would return. They never have enough golf balls on free driving range. Noticed this several times.
