Rutgers University Golf Course

The course conditions and staff were great when I played. I found the course challenging due to the tight holes with a lot of OB markers and the demanding greens. Scoring well here involves discipline and expert putting. Many of the greens were extremely small with significant slope. I will play again as I learn from my mistakes and hopefully card a few more birdies.

Rutgers is in Fantastic shape. The greens are really rolling with lots of break , making even short putts extra challenging..

College course, can’t be good? Wrong. This place is a hidden gem. Rumor has it Rutgers agriculture contributed to the grass at Augusta. Not long, but challenging, Impeccable shape right now considering many courses are struggling with weeds and dead patches in the summer. The new superintendent really turned this place around. They’re typically somewhat strict with pace of play, a 4 hour 20 minute round or more is very rare. It’s very walkable. Part of me wants to give a terrible review so people stop coming but I can’t say enough good things. Staff is super friendly. They have a nice cafe you can hit at the start or at the turn. The people that play here are a different breed. I’ve played with hundreds of random people and they’re all fantastic, from college quarterback to college professors. Give it a try, it’s well worth it.

Course is in good shape Throughout but the rough can be cut down. Pretty thick. Balls hitting the fairway and rolling into the rough should not be hard to find.

Greens did not hold very well.

Greens were fast, especially downhill with some ridiculously tough pin locations. Rough was long and thick, easy to lose your ball.

Course conditions were good except some beat up tee boxes.

Situation with the parking lot being across a busy street is very unfortunate, not being able to drive your cart to your car.

After not playing the course for a number of years, I returned to play it again, and was not disappointed. Course conditions were good, greens were rolling true and fast. I will be playing there again in the future.

Not long but nice straightforward layout, nice hole variety and some rolling terrain, greens have subtle slopes and undulations, with tucked pins, par or less can be challenging. Green complexes and fairways also protected with strategically placed bunkering. Overall, will test your ball striking, chipping and putting in order to score.
