Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else

If it’s the only place you can afford, which is often the case with myself, fine. If you have the money to play at ANY other course in the Asheville area, I would recommend going with that option. Every time I try to play this course it’s at least a 15 minute wait after every shot. There are zero pace of play regulations, with groups of unlimited size and unlimited handicaps allowed to tee off together. I played behind a group of 11 one time here. I’ve never left feeling anything but frustrated and I’m hoping this review can save you the same feeling.

Over crowded

Very slow and over crowded. Crabgrass on the greens. No sand in bunkers.

Horrible golf course

Really really terrible shape. Trees laying around everywhere. There were potholes literally every 5 feet on the cart path. Greens in horrible condition, tree box’s where like hitting out of the rough. I’ve lived in Asheville for a while and played this course many times. This is the worst I’ve seen it. The golf carts were even in bad shape no front window no cover to go over the clubs of rain where to come. Also the corner of the seat on the driver side was completely torn out. Terrible terrible terrible. I won’t be spending anymore of my money on that course.

Bad Shape

This once beautiful course has been ignored. The owners and the city must invest a lot of money if it is going to survive.

Needs help

Greens and tee boxes in terrible condition. Greens had tons of old, un-repaired ball marks making smooth putting a joke. Greens were recently mowed when wet and clumps of grass were everywhere which shows worker apathy. Fairways bald in so many spots we grew tired of looking for relief from the clay. Cart paths are in need of help and some spots dangerous. One of our carts almost tipped over. No attempts to pair golfers on a busy day slowing down play. Fortunately the word is that the city is going to invest in improving conditions soon.

Value for the money

Not the greatest shape of a course but for 35$ on a city municipal course. I've played worse. Hole 16 green looks like it has the mange fairways are rock hard and tee box's are uneven lies..

This place should pay you to play it

I think the course, as is, isn't worth $1 per hole. From fairways that don't have grass in them to cart paths that look like an earthquake struck, to greens that don't get repaired, this course is terrible. If Donald Ross were still alive this course would make him quit golf design. Put your money elsewhere.

The bent greens were very good and most fairways on the front nine good for a public coarse. Back 9 layout was more difficult with elevation changes ,narrow and spotty fairways. Overall good value

The Muni in Asheville

The second Donald Ross course I’ve played. I enjoyed the history of the course. You could tell it was laid out to fit the land it was placed on. I look forward to playing again some time.

Fun course, not enough funding yet for good conditions

The staff are very friendly, the layout is a lot of fun, the greens are a good challenge. Unfortunately, they haven’t had enough money to keep the conditions up. Some crappy fairways and burnt out green. But for a muni, it’s a good course

#18 par 3 hole in one!

One of our party got a hole in one on the #18 par 3. This is a long but down hill back toward the club house with a beautiful view. A view of the club house, front nine and a ball rolling in from 200 yards away.
