This course could be great.
The course was in very rough shape. Mud in the fairways and clumps of grass clippings. It’s a fun course and could be great.
Gem
Course was wet from all the rain but still overall good condition. Some of the tee boxes had little to no grass.
Black Mountain
Great course layout with challenging holes. Staff is friendly and helpful. Overall course was in good shape. One green had some bare spots, but most were in good shape. A few T boxes were bare, and needed repairs.
Always a great experience!
Brent is always pleasant and happy to enhance the experience
Recent Rains Impacted Conditions
This is an interesting layout with plenty of potential. Our visit folowed several days of significant rains. Several holes were cart path only and other fairways were damp. Several runoffs near greens would normally be marked off as free drop spots. Three to four fee boxes, we played whites, were almost devoid of any grass. My bet is due to the wet conditions the greens while smooth, were rolling fairly slow.
Nice Saturday Rond
I enjoy playing here, but the course tee boxes and fairways could use some TLC. The fairways were overgrown/patchy and tee boxes had seen better days. The greens were in great shape. There were several blind tee shots due to cat tails overgrown in the creek that passes through the course that left you guessing where the group in front of you was at times. All that said, I'd come back.
Played twice last week and this week
I enjoyed the course having played on the 19th and coming back to play on the 22nd. Huge difference as Asheville has been soaked by heavy rains. When I played on the 19th greens were dry and balls bounced in fairways.
This week it was sloppy and soaked. Not at all the fault of the staff, it’s Mother Nature. I played very early and the dew and fog limited ball flight and balls didn’t move after hitting the ground.
You could see the trails of your putts and unless you are used to putting on wet greens you don’t stand a chance to hole anything outside of 10 feet.
The course has some very hard holes where narrow landing spots with par 4’s nearly 400 yards. The par 3’s were less challenging.
Overall it’s a fun course to play and if it would dry out this week I’d go back but I wouldn’t recommend playing unless you are prepared to get wet and your golf shoes will be a mess after you finish.
Not Worth The Money
The staff at the course was very friendly and that is where the positives end. The fairway grass was as long as the rough. The tee boxes barely had any grass on them and they were uneven. The cart paths are in much need of an update.
A simple 9
I like playing Black Mountain. The course looked in rougher shape than I remember. The tee boxes especially were mostly bare and some of the fairways seemed very dry. Greens were a little slow but they may have let them grow out because of a lack of rain. I will still return and play the course but I’m hopeful the conditions can improve as the summer progresses.
