Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Very Good Experience
Played in 4 hours on a Sunday. Hardly any waits. Course is in very good shape
Best shape I've seen the course....maybe ever
This may be the best shape I've ever seen Lochmere in. The fairways were lush and dry despite a hard rainstorm two days ago (which is saying something for this low-lying course), and the greens were fast and true. Pace of play was good, and even though they asked as we were about to tee off, they didn't force our twosome to pair up with another twosome that came up as we were about to tee off at 4pm, which would have been tight finishing up. The only complaint I have was that the range was mats only which I loathe. Not sure why they were doing it that way.
Improved Conditions
First time I've played Lochmere this calendar year. There was a ton of rain the nite before (cart path only), but the course drained better than I remembered after other big rains. Greens had been top-dressed but rolled really well. The rough isn't that long but it is very dense! This is a fun layout, tho some think it's a bit monotonous....great deal if you can get an HD and play in under 4 hrs....which I did.
Great
Great day -- great fairways and greens. Nice when it is dry - not so after rain.
It was an enjoyable day.
Awesome round -79
Haven’t played here for a few years ; usually very wet and miserable; creates slow play
The course layout is challenging especially from the tips but tee shots rolled and greens stuck.
Bunkers were not washed out
Greens - maybe 11-13 stimpmeter and it took the breaks you see and were responsive
The “ONLY” bad part is that the maintenance crew was all over the place while you were trying to hit- weed eaters running and mowers circling, dust flying and would not shut down when you were putting or teeing off - ran by younger kids for the summer.
Another Enjoyable Round
Lochmere is my go to course for midweek play. The folks there are always friendly and helpful. It was a hot and steamy afternoon with the high around 95 so it was sweltering, but the course was in good shape. The greens were in great shape given the hot conditions and I was impressed that the fairways weren't dust bowls. We got caught in a summer shower that poured rain for 30 minutes that will help keep the course green for the next few days. Always fun to play here and I will continue going back.
Solid track
Lochmere is a solid track and in good condition. Good value for money. It’s a busy course and pace of play reflects this.
Good shape, bad pace
I play Lochmere pretty regularly. It hasn’t rained in a while so the course is in good shape. Really crowded and slow today, though.
Excellent round
Course was in the best shape that I've seen in years. Would have been a higher rating, but 3 members of my group called to order food at the turn, but nobody answered the phone causing us to wait about 15 minutes at the turn.
4 hour round!
For a holiday round, we were able to play 18 holes in 4 hours. Great pace of play. Some tee boxes patchy but fairways and greens are in very good condition
Very nice round
Nice course, very enjoyable round. Greens and fairways are in very good shape. A few of the tee boxes could use a bit more grass and water, which is the only reason I didn’t rate Course conditions a 5.
Nice course, fairly tight fairways and challenging pins.
Grabbed a hot deal and played with two other guys mid-day. This course becomes increasingly challenging over the 18 holes as the fairways are pretty tight, the greens are well protected by hazards, and the pins were protected by bunkers, requiring accurate approach shots. I carry around 270-280 but found myself reaching for the hybrid a number of times due to hazards at that distance or tight and short fairways. Greens were hard but slow due to the recent aeration, nothing to really complain about since I knew going in I wouldn’t be putting well because of that. Overall, a challenging course if you’re not hitting them straight or have poor course management. Well worth it at the hot deal price I paid, full price I’d probably pass.
Good deal after Aeration
I've lived here for 3.5 years now and never played here. Pretty sweet deal on this site $25 for 18 with cart since they just aerated the day before. The greens were not expected to be receptive or true, but were already growing in well. Fairways and tee boxes were definitely in great shape compared to previous reviews.
Course is challenging, since a good number of holes require you to play strategically instead of bomb it. Almost all fairways lined with trees or bunkers. The water runs through the course many areas so some shots are irons or metals off the tee.
Off course facilities are a plenty. Practice facility is fully equipped and has everything. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Only downside, they need a beverage cart person. For how busy it is, pace slowed down a couple times so a chance to stop and have a beer would have been nice.
Would certainly play here again if there is a deal. Normally the price is north of $60 for 18. That is a bit steep for this course in my opinion.
Good conditions ...
Lochmere is a fun course - and a great course for short hitters and players who prefer good lies. The greens were recently aerated which was still evident but it was not a big issue and the greens should be great in a week. The breaks were true but getting the speeds right was made together by aeration. Many shaded tee boxes offer relief on hot days but trees present challenges on a few narrow holes. Can loose a ball or two if you go astray and there are some hard pan areas off the fairways. Bermuda rough can get brutal here when not mown but today it was perfect-difficult to advance far if you’re not a clean ball striker which is as it should be. Pace of play was great but that’s likely due more to midweek and midday round on a hot day. Our foursome finished in 3.5 hours with two 30+ hc’s in the group. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that one of our group made his first ace today on the #3 hole.

Great guys I got matched with and great coarse. You can tell they care. The price was on point.
