Rocky River Golf Club at Concord
About
Rocky River Golf Club was carefully carved from lush, rolling hills and natural wetlands with the intent of preserving the beautiful terrain as much as possible. The course flows across the dramatic natural contours of the land, providing holes with plenty of elevation changes. Running alongside the rolling fairways are winding ribbons of native wetland grasses that weave through rocky outcroppings. Golfers shouldn't be surprised if they come across some of the wildlife that inhabits the course, which includes cranes, deer, and beavers. In addition to the stunning scenery, the golf course offers a challenging round. The large, contoured greens demand accurate iron play. Errant shots will find their way to the wetland areas or the patches of seeded fescue. In addition to the golf course, Rocky River offers a driving range with four target greens as well as a putting and chipping green.

Course in Great Condition
I have played this course in past years and it was in decent condition but has had many improvements - many of which appear to be very recent.
The greens are all in excellent condition - some are so well manicured it made you question that they were actually grass and not a manufactured surface.
My only criticism is when using the 3rd party services to book tee times, there is no way to indicate you are a Concord resident and qualify for discounted rates.
Corona Golf
Fairways a little sparse. Tee boxes hard. Greens hard. Greens super fast but consistent. With a little rain it should be in great shape soon. Playing again next month.
Solid Course
The course was in good shape. The grass was pretty full in all areas. We played from the green tees (about 6,500 yds), but probably could have played from further back (about 7,000 yds) because there weren’t many uphill approach shots. Greens were fast and true (some people still need to learn how to fix a divot though). We never had to wait on anyone in front of us, but likely because we tee’d off so early in the morning. The guys in the clubhouse were very helpful and professional! Also, their chicken salad sandwich was great after the round.
The only issues we had were relatively minor, and related to pre-round. For example, their website says the driving range is supposed to allow everyone to hit off the grass (unless weather doesn’t allow), but we had to hit off of turf mats (despite perfect weather). Their range has a bunch of random balls too (orange, yellow, white). Not a huge deal, but weird and gives a cheap appearance (not exactly what I expected from a course that charges as much as they do). The twosome we were paired with ended up teeing off well before our tee time, which didn't bother me a bit. If you live in Greensboro or Winston-Salem, don’t bother. There are PLENTY of courses in those areas that are just as nice (if not nicer) and charging less. I came because I was meeting someone halfway. We payed $42 for a “hot deal” without a cart. That being said, it’s a good course to walk...not many hills and relatively short distances between holes.
Great shape
Greens were running fast and true. Course was in great shape for all the play they are getting. Pace was right at 4 hrs and I was walking. Cups are down and pins in, great round.
Best greens in metro CLT!
Love this course! Greens very fast and true...hard to beat!
Excellent condition.
Course is in great shape. Greens are fast but hold shots. Fairways, rough all well manicured. Traps with bright white sand are also in great shape. I hadn’t played this course in a number of years and I forgot how hilly it is. At almost 70 years old, walking 18 was not a good idea!
Great Condition
Course was in great condition for April, or any time of the year! Bag drop staff was very friendly - they even called the pro shop and checked me in so I didn't have to go inside. Rocky River is always overpriced, and I knew that when making reservation, so did not let that affect my rating.
Reliable and solid
I've been playing this course once or twice a week for the past month, and it is always in great shape. The greens are impeccable, and the fairways (while maybe a bit dry at this point in the year) are solid and run true. The staff is also always helpful, even during this social-distancing era. The course is challenging, and higher handicaps may lose some balls, but you'll still enjoy yourself.
Great Value
I liked that the carts have GPS and electronic scorecard. Great course.
Best public course in Charlotte area
Probably the best public coarse in the Charlotte metro. Since they went to Bermuda Grass green they are always in great sharpe and FAST! Love playing at Rocky River!
Fun course
i had not played this course in several years and was presently surprised. We really did not encroach on the group in front of us or get pushed by the group behind us. The pace was fine. The course layout is nice with a returning nine. I like variety of distances and pars, so the front nine with only one par three and par five a bit of a bummer. However, the greens are nice and really really fast. Overall is a really good experience.
Terrific course.
First time playing this course. It is a terrific, fun layout with no two holes the same. The greens were fast and mostly in good shape. Some of the fairways were thin but the course gets a lot of play. Great place to play!
Great greens
The course is in excellent shape with fairways pretty much grown in and the greens were amazing. Smooth, fast and true. I’ll be back!
