Rocky River Golf Club at Concord
About
Rocky River Golf Club was carefully carved from lush, rolling hills and natural wetlands with the intent of preserving the beautiful terrain as much as possible. The course flows across the dramatic natural contours of the land, providing holes with plenty of elevation changes. Running alongside the rolling fairways are winding ribbons of native wetland grasses that weave through rocky outcroppings. Golfers shouldn't be surprised if they come across some of the wildlife that inhabits the course, which includes cranes, deer, and beavers. In addition to the stunning scenery, the golf course offers a challenging round. The large, contoured greens demand accurate iron play. Errant shots will find their way to the wetland areas or the patches of seeded fescue. In addition to the golf course, Rocky River offers a driving range with four target greens as well as a putting and chipping green.

Golfer Reviews
Top Tier
Where do I start. The course was absolutely beautiful. Greens were nice. Staff was polite and courteous. I truly enjoyed my first time there and I am super excited to come back to do a full 18holes.
Challenging layout
Good pace based on previous rounds. Fairways and greens in good condition (except one #3). Some tees were spotty and the course is a little rough around the edges. Overall a fun day.
Great course minus pace of play
Great course minus the pace of play. When making the turn, we had multiple groups let on to play nine. The group infront of us was 5-6 guys with 1 cart. Enough said.
Amazing Staff! Great Value
Was greeted at the bag drop by the starter who informed me who I was playing with, took my bag and set it up on a cart as well. Course was in solid shape despite the rain earlier in the week. Cart person came around frequently and the snack bar had plenty of grab and go options at the turn. When I finished my round I was greeted and had my clubs cleaned. The course is solid, but the staff is the reason I will be back!
Good greens and layout
I like the course layout and the greens had good speed. The fairways are also good, but there are some rough ground conditions on the edges. I try to take advantage of the Golf pass hot deals to make it a better value.
A nice day at the track
I picked this course because it is convenient for everyone who played with me.. we all thought it was going to be more upscale than our foursome typically enjoys but we were wrong.. it was just a nice course in the shadow of the Z-Max drag strip (no racing on our day but it does make sense to check the race schedule as it gets loud). The course is in very nice condition.. true rolls on the green and wide enough fairways to accommodate us hackers playing the short tees.. there were two sets of tees behind us that I expect would be more challenging. Overall it is a pretty course with woods, water, and a couple glimpses of the track.. I will definitely play here again.
Great Course
I play Rocky River 4-5 times a summer. I play as a single and always meet and play with groups of similar skill and interest in the game of golf. Layout is very good. Conditions always very good.. Best public course in Charlotte!
Sandy greens
It was a busy day which led to slow play. The greens were lightly sanded but still pretty fast. It's a good layout but the tee boxes are beat up. Will return.
Course is in good condition
Course is in pretty good condition, fast greens, and well cut fairways, friendly staff, but awful pace of play, took 5 and a half hours to play 18 holes, don’t go here if you’re planning on getting a quick 18 in.
Nice course
Nice course, but the pace of play was rough. Took about 5:15 to play 18. Would’ve been nice to have some marshallers out pushing the pace a little.
Slow play
I haven’t played here in about 10 years.
Played with three other guys and none of us knew each other we were all singles.
Pace was super slow we were getting yelled at by the people behind us.
We had a couple blind holes. Supposedly hit into the group in front of us three times.
Marshall came up and tried to kick us off the course. Discourse is very nice. But I think they are over selling it a bit because the pace of play was terrible. We are a 5 1/2 hour Round.
All that being said, we played the tips. The course is a quality course. Get ready for a five hour round at least.
They definitely could use a new marshal the guy there has no idea what he’s doing
Spring Golf
Had a chance to play this mid week while I was on a multi day drive. Considering the recent weather, this course was in great shape and was very fun to play. Course staff were very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Clubhouse was undergoing some renovation (kitchen I think) so a little short on snacks but I’m sure once it’s complete it will add to the experience.
Must play!
Played this course for the first time and this is now one of my favorite courses in the area! Staff was great, the greens were amazing, and the pace of play was great as well.
Getting ready for spring golf
Rocky River is a very good golf experience all around, and getting better.
Right now they're working on improving the clubhouse, a weakness I pointed out in an earlier review.
The electric carts are great, the pro shop is well-stocked with merchandise with competitive prices (March Sale on now), and all the staff is friendly and helpful.
The course itself is in very good shape too. Of course the grass in the fairways is still dormant but it doesn't effect your game. The greens putt pretty true and they're greening up and mowed. The sandtraps are all filled with clean white sand, so it's your fault if you don't get out (now if only golfers would rake!).
If you haven't played Rocky River, you're missing out on a great golf experience.
First Time, But Not My Last
As expected, the fairways were still in their dormant phase, but the greens were in really good shape. From the guy at the front desk to the tee time official outside, the staff was very polite and courteous. The range area is well maintained, but has no rubber tees. The putting practice area was in great shape as well. The carts are updated to include geo-tracking with yardage indicators. I think coming back in summer will give me a better sense of play, Overall, an enjoyable day of golf with some new friends I met.
