About
The Willard Byrd course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots. It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest. The Byrd course is built around several, man-made lakes, from 14-20 acres and features nicely undulating greens and Byrd's trademark decorative sand and waste bunkers, constrictive treelines and greenside bunkers.
The Byrd course opened in the fall of 1990 to good reviews. No. 18 finishes between two ponds at the clubhouse. The course covers 6,750 from the blue tees with a slope rating of 128 slope. Watch for No. 2, a 174-yard par-3 over water, and No. 3, a long par-5, a dogleg right with water on the left.

Great Course
Loved the course and layout. My only issue is we had to wait out a couple of rainstorms so the cart kept freaking out and telling us our pace of play was slow. However this is a minor annoyance and we absolutely had a great experience.
Very solid course. Did not play the back 9. The starter, the pro shop attendant and the cart attendant at the end were SUPER friendly. One guy at the beginning working the carts was kinda grumpy and rushed to get us out and we weren't ready. Our team time was 20 minutes later and normally I would like to get out early but we werent settled and even the starter was confused on why he did it. The course is in very good condition. Friendly off tee, greens I think would be super fast and nicer , but there was aeration going on. Sand was very good, decent design, we will be back again.

Enjoyable
Course was in very good shape. Fairways excellent, tee box’s good, greens very good but I started at 8am and greens had a fairly heavy due on them but they rolled well and gradually got faster to a nice speed as they dried out. First time I played it since renovation and glad I did.
Awsome
Decided last minute to stop here and rent a condo on 16th green of Byrd course. Played Byrd and Jones and both are very good. Will play Maples tomorrow but drove by and it looks good as well. This Sea Trail Resort is nice and the 3 courses are a bit less $ if you book on GolfNow. Having said that all courses walk up rate is priced in the $100 range (in March) overall I'd recommend this resort and golf courses with 👍👍.
Challenging but not too hard
Everything was great! Really enjoyed the course and the layout. Staff was super friendly and the greens rolled pure and fast!
Disappointing Conditions
We played the Byrd course this year with high expectations due due it's renovation last year. Unfortunately we were disappointed in several fairways were burnt out and the greens were not in the shape I would expect for being redone last year.

Byrd
The greens are so fast but roll true. Impossible pin placements. Ball stopped at hole and rolled 9 feet down hill. Crazy! Course is in great shape.
Great course
I played the Byrd course. It was very good. Only thing I can pick on is the holes were cut on slopes and the greens were fast so putting was a challenge.. all in all a great place.with plenty of challenge. I would go back.
