Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Really enjoyed playing Bear Creek

My son amd I had a great time playing here. The fairways were in great shape. Somewhere over half of the greens had been aerated and sanded but it's got to happen sometime. The people wee super nice and the whole course is picturesque. We were visiting from Atlanta and would definitely play there again.

Hidden Gem - Bear Creek

Nice course - very scenic layout - quiet.

It could use some TLC - but he fairways were good - the cuts were good and the greens above average to excellent. We have played this course many times in Hilton Head - they do not normally have a cart girl - so load up before you go. The course is wide open and easy to play - look ahead there is usually some water in play- and mostly consists of dog legs. They have a stater and course ranger so they keep the pace if needed. The grill room offers cold drinks and grill food - sandwiches and burgers mostly . The staff is friendly. Lots of shade to be found on the course since it’s gets hot here ! Near the water so it catches cool breezes . I always enjoy my round when I play here - very laid back. Cart service is kind of DYI — so don’t expect much help loading or loading- (IMO)

4 stars !! Worth a play

A Good Public Course on Hilton Head

Our experience at Bear Creek Golf Club was very positive.

The staff at the pro shop were very friendly and professional, and the starter gave us some helpful tips about the course before we began.

The course layout is interesting and enjoyable, with several water hazards and bunkers that make the round challenging and fun. The fairways were a little dry in some areas, but the greens were in good condition and rolled well.

The pace of play was acceptable, and overall we had a pleasant round.

We can definitely recommend this course.

Golf on 5/17/26

There was a mixup on my teatime, but the front office staff slid us right in and that was perfect. The check-in staff was very nice and easy to work with.

Then we got to go in and have our lunch after the round and the staff in the dining room was outstanding very personable and very polite. Fun to be around.

I will be down again with five of my friends in September and we will be sure to put your course on our list. Thank you.

Good for the hot deal

Arriving at course first time ever playing here we cam do bag drop to a cart guy who basically waited for me to unload then he got up ...he wasn't friendly at all or really giving a first timer any real info . He acted as though we were an inconvenience to his day when we didnt know where to go he kind of snapping told us where to go

Again after our round I was completely unloaded my stuff in car and my trash put of the cart before he even bothered to come out of the shack . I normally tip the cart people at most courses very well but they are friendly and helpful and even wipe my clubs down when getting back then unload cart .. that's why this guy didn't get anything .

The lady at grille was nice and friendly as were the pro shop guys ..i suggest you find new cart guy

Good value for money on Hilton Head Island

Course layout was great and staff were great. Tee boxes were not in great shape but they had recent rains. We had a slow foursome in front of us and the ranger did speak to them but they were not good golfers and didn't know etiquette too well. Anyway a beautiful day and great experience.

Super friendly

Giving 4 stars just for staff friendliness. Most welcoming course I've ever been to

Greens were in ok condition. A few weeds and burns. Players werent fixing pitch marks. Its been dry, so Im sure theyre doing their best

Fairways were alright.

Bunkers could use some work.

The rough and areas around tee boxes needed some serious mowing. Didnt cause an issue just not aesthetically pleasing

Pretty sure course. Could play the whole thing with a 5i off the tips except for a hole or two

Pace of play, horrendous. Not the course's fault, but players were very very slow

Would play again for $50-$60. Not worth much more than that.

Great layout

Course needs some tightening up around the tees and fairways, but greens were in good shape overall. Will be back.

Pleasant

Nice layout, no holes that are tough just for the sake of being tough. No silly layouts. Bunkers a little firm green speed was a touch fast, but manageable. Hole 18 a fun, strategic hole.

Don’t forget your stuff!

We have a place in Hilton Head so we play golf there frequently. I forgot my Bushnell rangefinder on the cart and the pro shop was extremely unhelpful. The older woman on the phone wouldn’t query the cart shop under any circumstance. She said they donate forgotten things after a month, which is annoying but acceptable. I stopped by less than 3 weeks after we played and the range finder had already been disappeared. One of the employees in the cart shop offered me another rangefinder that had been forgotten, but I wasn’t about to take another person’s stuff. I know that $400 isn’t a big deal to a golf course employee, but it was to me. Shame on them.

Good value

The course is a good value considering what the other courses on HHI are charging. The greens were good to putt. Due to lack of rain in the area, the fairways are hard and fast and if you miss, the rough is virtually non-existent, which causes balls slightly mishit to go into undesireable positions. Played in under 4 hours!

Lousy pace of play

Our first 9 was a wait for every shot, which pushed it to a 2.5 hour front 9 and made finishing in a timely manner impossible. We stopped and tried to visit the clubhouse for a refund of the back 9 or a rain check, but the clubhouse was closed and nobody to be found to talk too.
