Deer Island Country Club

Although there was plenty of construction going on with course improvements the greens did not seem a priority. There were bare spots on almost every green along with scarring from what looked like equipment malfunction. They were extremely slow and did not roll well. This was the only bad area for the course as a total. I would recommend to anyone when the greens are better.

Went to Deer Island yesterday to practice on driving range. Course looked fantastic as I drove in. Saw several greens and multiple fairways. Decided to go ahead and grab a GN time, with great anticipation and confidence. Almost all greens had been heavily damaged by [fungus], and had been “repaired” with green sand. (Thus the appearance of good condition.) To make matters worse, the greens were at least two or three days overdue for cutting, and were in a word… furry. Tees were adequate at best. Fairways were great in some areas, patchy and thin in others. Some traps fine, others not so much. Paid $46 on GN but should have been $28. Great layout, and would have been a fantastic day, except the condition. Hope they get on top of things.

One of my favorite courses due to the layout, the scenery, and the wildlife but they are having green issues. A number of the greens have bare spots due to some unknown issue. Even so, the lower green fees reflect this unfortunate problem. Clearly, they are aggressively dealing with it and only have one temporary green.The remainder of the course, however, is in excellent shape. It is such a great layout, I may only wait a week or so before I book it again since it is such a great challenge and the fees are so reasonable. FYI, I’m a single digit snowbird that spends 6 months here so I know I good deal when I see one!

This was my third time playing this course (2nd in a month), and it is fast becoming one of my favorites. This is an Island course in the middle of Central Florida with water in play on every hole. Why did I enjoy such a challenging track? It is in immaculate condition and a great value for the price.

Usually play this course every weekend. They have spent a lot of money upgrading the course and it shows. Tee boxes, Fairways and bunkers are in excellent condition. Now we get to the greens. Last weekend they were also in excellent shape. Not sure what happened this past week. Almost every green had a lot of bare spots. Looks like they might be dealing with a fungus. Hopefully they address this right away and come up with a solution.

Abeautiful location. Water everywhere! They must have spent more on bridges that cart paths!! Greens are unusually slow.

Suprised a little on the green quality, their usually pristine but I think the drought this summer burnt them a little along with over seeding and sanding. Pace of play is usually great to but we got behind 4 members with their own carts around the 6th hole, was at the 10th before they finished teeing off, thought they might wave us by, only 2 of us. Not a chance, wouldn't even make direct contact with us, what might have cost them 3 or 4 minutes cost us at least 45 minutes. No big deal but it is aggravating waiting on every shot. Love the course, play there often and will again for sure, great staff and very challenging, lot's of water to contend with, bring more balls than you think you'll need.

I had not played here in years, but the course is still great! Pace of play was awesome and our threesome got done in just under 4.5 hours. The staff was very nice.

During our round we did have construction happening on one green with heavy equipment, loading in large rocks to replace wooden green surrounds on one hole. They have done this for another green as well. The final product will look nice. That said, the two greens were closed, and temp greens were located in the fairways of both holes. Both were not good putting experiences. It would have been nice to have been told ahead of time by the starter. The only other complaint was the condition of the greens. They were recently punched and sanded. While not horrible, it would have been nice to have been notified. Several of the greens also had burned out lines that look like machinery had leaked gas or oil, killing the grass. They will come back, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. Fairways and tee boxes were very nice and the rough was nicely maintained.

Honestly, it was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this course. It is a good, challenging track with plenty of water and beautiful views along with plenty of wildlife. We enjoyed our time and I will be back.

The greens were in poor condition given the course rating here. Looked as though it has been recently aerated which I could forgive. There were many other bad spots on the greens that were just poor maintenance. Some areas of the fairways were also in need of attention. Disappointed given everything I have heard about this course.

This course two years ago was one of finest in FL. What a shame to see the greens are now the worst we have played in years. Seems they are more concerned with landscaping than greens or sandtrap maintenance. The greens fee is twice what it should be for these conditions.

Greens aerated the morning we played. Were not told in the pro shop about it. Some didn’t even have sand yet , just large holes. Putting was bad. Tee boxes also very sparse; brown with thin grass; needed water badly

The only exception was the greens. Even considering the greens were just punched, they were in rough shape. Overall, the rest of the course was in great shape and I'll be back.

Deer Island = best course in Central Florida right now. Minus the punched greens that morning that were just sanded. Staff is amazing and the price is about spot on.

The wind off the lake makes for amazing challenges!

The course.

Driving range. A little drive to reach it but once there nice flat areas to play off with decent turf. Hitting in to the sun a little challenging but there is nothing you can do first thing in the morning.

Tees? were good no issues here, fairly flat enough grass etc.

Fairways? in good shape just a little wet in places.

Approaches? were all good no issues here.

Greens? unfortunately had just been Hollow Tined/Punched but were still ok only cost us a couple of shots each and as we all know the work has to be done at some point.

The lay out? This is the best part of the course, plenty of thought has gone in to this course layout? It’s not just a stand up and bang the big dog down the middle? This is a course that you think about your approach so try to leave a good number for yourself. This is a strong course that careful thought should be given to what tees you play off.

Playing Conditions? Today there was a bit of wind off the lake making the course play a bit like a links course.

Other players the group both in front and behind were chatty and friendly most welcoming to their home course. One of the group behind was Jim Buckle the general manager he seemed genuinely happy that we had taken time out to visit and play the course.

Pace of play for the first 9 was excellent but then about 5 groups of us got halted by one 2 ball that seem to be struggling a bit (we still enjoyed the views why we waited to play our shots)

Location? We are staying in the Disney area so this was over an hour away but it was worth ever minute we spent driving there.

Staff along with Jim they were a credit to the course and the facility all very helpful, friendly and welcoming, thanks to all of you.

Food and Beverages. All really good and very tasty and at a very reasonable price.

Will we go back? We plan to pop back next week for a second visit.

I enjoy playing this course. The price is always reasonable even on a Sunday morning. We were the 1st group out so the pace of play was great. The only negative is they need to cut the grass off the fairway. It is very thick and dense and it is difficult finding the ball. I would hit a good shot but could not find the ball and would have to take a drop. They had a lot of rain in that area and the fairways were wet and might not be able to cut some of the areas. I will always go back because the people are friendly and the price.
