Hilton Park Golf Club - The Allander Course

There are two courses hear I played the Allander course.

It’s was lovely great settings through hills ,course is standing up so well with the recent heavy rains.

The course isn’t too long ,a little hilly if you struggle to walk.

Great course not far from the city

Booked in to play on the Hilton Course - 12pm tee.

When checking in was told I’d be playing the other course the Allander. Despite double checking right course - shop staff insisted it was the Allander course. Personally had booked in to play the Hilton as understood it to be longer and a bit more scenic. So despite my better judgement thought I’d play the Allander.

Walking up to the tee - four older gentleman were teeing off at 12 - which I was sure was my tee time. Heard another older gentleman on the putting green say to his friend they were off at 12.10. Little confused I went back to the pro shop who told me I was off at 12:05…

Unsurprisingly pace of play was horrific - the fourball of members in front of me never rang any bell - and the course is filled with of blind shots, dips and doglegs, was at least 9 as I can recall. Was no offer of playing through - I see from other reviews that this seems to be the status quo here.

Allander course was pretty dire - I ended up cutting my round short given condition and pace of play - has been a lot of rain recently but the drainage on the course is poor - whole course was incredibly soft - even tee boxes had puddles on them. Huge swathes of GUR areas on fairways and around greens. Did seem like perhaps with two courses the grounds staff are just too stretched.

The layout I just found incredibly disappointing - too many blind shots all over the course, too many fairways with aggressive slopes left to right or right to left - if you hit the fairway no chance of it staying on the fairway just seems ridiculous.

Definitely not worth the fee they are looking for in my opinion.

While not the longest, the Allander fairways are fairly generous and so, with decent driving, it becomes a test of your wedge play into the smallish greens. The heathland turf is a pleasure to hit off and the setting and views are splendid.

Course was excellent condition and guy in pro shop was very friendly, overall definitely be back

Challenging course but accessible to a vide range of golfers with stunning views

Par 5 11th was my favourite

Bit hilly for the less able

But great value

Would have gave it 5 stars but was November so was nt at its best

I managed to catch the course on a cracking day. So not sure how much this has to do with the experience.

Got course on time, playing just on my own. Shop pro said I had a couple of members in front of me but should be an ok distance apart. Just wait a few mins and see if the bell goes.

Waited, heard nothing, teed off and almost immediately caught up with the members who were on the green.

At no point was there an offer to play through or an acknowledgement I was behind them playing at a quicker pace.

Or any increase in pace from them.

Nor at any point in the blind summits (think there was 4) did they ring the bell to let me know they had cleared the fairways.

Got to the 9th hole at about 2hours and 10 mins and decided to go call it there.

Lovely course, beautiful setting. Really enjoyed the layout but horrendous pace of play, lack of just general golf etiquette was disappointing.

Played today, course in good condition although a little wet under foot.

A few tough testing holes.

Clubhouse staff were friendly and very welcoming to visitors

Highly recommend warm welcome great course perfect weather and a nice pint with the members in the 19th will definitely be back love the place have also played the Hilton course which is excellent also

The weather helps but the Allander course was very enjoyable to play with a good layout and lovely holes that had been well maintained. Staff were very welcoming on arrival with nice sitting out space when we finished with friendly bar staff.

Cracking wee course, really loved it, nice for most handicappers though plenty of blind shots but you get used to it.

Slightly gutted the greens were aerated but then assume they never told us as we wouldn't have booked.

Probably back again in better weather.

All in all recommend.

Course in good condition given the heavy rain. Staff are very good and friendly.

Know the course well as used to be a member >10 years ago. Everything was absolutely fine except the member group in front never once rang a fairway free bell and anyone who knows the course knows that there are 6 bells on the front 9, more on the back 9 but by then the group had managed to move away from us because we were standing on tees waiting for bells! Maybe that was their master plan all along? Totally ignorant but then I remembered why I never much liked the place.
