Golfer Reviews
If its cart path only get your money back
I learned my lesson at this golf course the hard way, and that is by not calling the pro shop making sure it was not Cart Path Only. I pulled up to the starter to find out it was Cart Path Only, and let me tell you this is not one course to be Cart Path only. The fairways were in immaculate conditions, and greens were in great conditions. However I ran out of water, and both refill water stations were empty… It was a 90 degree day, and I know I should’ve came prepared with more water, but jeez I got to hole 16th where I was hoping to buy a couple of water bottles and they only had 1 water bottle in the fridge. What I thought was suppose to be a good solo mid week round ended up being a difficult round. I also got stuck behind a 3 some that was taking an eternity… No kidding I wasn’t out to play rush golf, but on hole 1 they took 15 minutes… my tee time was at 1150 i was finishing 9 holes at 2:45.
Head Pro makes sure I'll never return to this course!
Played with my wife and another couple yesterday, we are all 60+ years old. The course was cart path only which adds over and hour to the round on a course like this, it seemed dry enough? The problem was water! Links style course so no clubhouse at the 9th (clubhouse is between 16 & 17). There was water at the practice area. The practice area is embarrassing as the putting area is not helpful or course-like, and the starter wasn't engaging or friendly. We saw the drink girl at the 2nd green, and for the last time at the 8th green. There was a broken (for a long time apparently) ice machine between holes 3 and 4 but was a cooler with water. It was a muggy 90+ degree day. We called the clubhouse on 11 asking about water, they said on 13th there would be water. The 1 water cooler on 13 was empty! We went into the clubhouse after 16 looking for water and were told back by the restaurant bathroom is a water fountain (it was warm water!). I talked to the head pro about us needing water and he was NOT HELPFUL!!! He was defensive, said all the WRONG things and put the blame back on us for not asking for more help from the course. Eventually, after he finally is understanding the situation, he reluctantly reaches into the cooler and grabs ONE bottle of water. He hands it to me and says.. "I don't have to give you this". I put the water down and said, "Don't sweat it" and walked out. It's clear why this course is never crowded, and as long as this head pro is employed here....WE ARE STAYING AWAY!!!!
Who Knew...Cart Path only secret
Checked in at pro shop with girl working there; hit balls on range, talked to ranger!!No mention on carts path only on course!!! Was told it in middle of 1st fairway by Asst Pri!!! If we had known this rule prior to teeing off, we would have asked for a credit and went somewhere else!! PS course is not one to play with the cart path only restriction!!! Almost a 6 hour round!!! Just Awful 👎👎👎
Cart Path Only Not Advertised
We would have gone elsewhere if we had known it was going to be Cart Path only!! Too expensive for the slow play on a course built to get a round using a cart!!!
Both gal in the pro shop and starter didn't say a single word about Cart Path only restrictions!!! Was told in the middle of the fairway about it!!! Would like to have a refund!!!
Potomac Shores experience
As for any golf course, there’s going to be hiccups. This is nothing terrible, but I booked a teatime this morning and my other two didn’t show up, that seems to be pretty common sometimes. They were very hospitable to get me into another threesome given, I was a single in the most prime time in the morning. The guys I played with were great, the staff was extremely nice, but as you can imagine, sometimes the pace of play can be a little slow. For those of you that are not familiar with the Dumphries, Woodbridge area, I just experienced something that is gonna be a hesitating factor in me coming back. When I finished my round, I took my cart out to my car rounding the corner. There was an individual parked in the middle of the road. I drove around him and went to the trunk of my car. As I was unloading the things from my car, this gentleman in a Blue, looked like Hyundai with tinted. Windows stepped out of his car screamed at me, told me to slow the F down and then threatened to kick my A after he asked me what my effing problem was. Not necessarily the thing that I wanted to experience when I just paid $150 for a round of golf. Overall, the course was fun and the guys that played with were great. But given that experience, I can find plenty of other places to play in northern Virginia or Maryland. Thought I would give a little feedback. I never write reviews, and I know everyone says that. But this was something I’ve never experienced in the 40 years. I’ve been playing golf. He was a tall guy, 6 foot two probably 245 pounds crew cut Haircut blue T-shirt khaki shorts. Hopefully he doesn’t work there.
Course was back in solid shape
I’ve played this course dozens of times, but my last few rounds had been disappointing…for whatever reason, they had let the course go a bit (poorly maintained tee boxes, spotty fairways and greens, etc.). It was good to see the course mostly back to pristine condition, although the greens were very slow (that’s an easy fix). If you value high quality conditions and layout, this is still the best public course in NoVa.
Lovely experience. The only constructive input might be to recommend that they focus a bit on the condition of the bunkers. Fairways and greens were well maintained.
Great layout but……
Great layout but amenities don't match the layout. No GPS in the carts. No refreshment cart. No drinking water on the course. I love this course, but it’s overpriced for what you get.
Fun course should be better
Potomac shores is a great track that doesn't manage some of the little things that could make it better. First, it is getting too expensive so my friends and I have stopped playing it. (We had discounts this time). The play was sooooo slow and it was a hot day. We needed drinks and no cart was to be found on the back and the water cooler we found was empty. again, one of our favorite courses but if it is going to cost to much and take 5 hours we won't play again.
Good potential, but needs investment
Layout is great, 5/5. Condition was 3/5; greens good, fairway decent but rough quite spotty. Not a negative just an fyi—you would not want to walk — very sig distance b/t holes. No one was there so pace was great; felt sort of deserted early week. Range was 3/5. Needs some investment and tlc and could be very good.
