The Falls and Crossing courses of Magnolia Grove respectively climbed to the top of the state of Alabama's rankings, a feat not easily completed considering the competition from other Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail stops. For the third round, either the Dogwood or Azalea course at Lakewood National will suffice. Perhaps the most interesting part of this experience is staying downtown at the Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa, a historic hotel.

I got my first taste of Gamble Sands last fall to preview the new DMK course called the Scarecrow. Once it becomes eligible, I have no doubt that it will immediately crack the "best of" lists in Washington state. For now, it's the original Gamble Sands course that ranked fifth in our Golfers' Choice 2025 state rankings. Couple these two courses with more golf on QuickSands, a really fun short course, for a wonderful weekend of golf in central Washington, where a dry climate is a major plus in the Pacific Northwest.

Normally, I wouldn't recommend booking a package where you play the same course twice - and miss out on so many other top area courses like Juniper Golf Club (12th in the state) and the Nicklaus course at Pronghorn (14th) - but Tetherow (ranked fifth in the Oregon state rankings for 2025) is a noteworthy exception. It's so wildly challenging and entertaining with some of the most demanding and interesting greens in golf that playing it twice is the only way to appreciate this extraordinary layout by David McLay Kidd.
