What are the top public golf courses and hidden gems in Australia?
It depends who you ask. In the case of GolfPass' annual Golfers Choice ranking lists, you are the expert, along with thousands of your fellow golfers.
We compile our annual Golfers' Choice lists by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our community - golfers like you - throughout the previous year. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages. Courses must offer public access and have received at least two reviews in 2023 to be eligible for this year's list. If you want to play any of these courses, hover your browser over the course photo and if tee times are available, you can click to book directly.

Cape Wickham Links
Green fee: $270
What they're saying: "This golf course will forever be in my soul. That's how strongly I feel about the playing experience at Cape Wickham. I played it twice on consecutive days - a perfect weather day from the tips and a windy day from the next tees up. The layout delivered equal parts fun and challenge in both instances. That's a sure sign of great design. The scenery will blow your mind, but so will how the cliffs were maximized to be part of the strategy of the course. The lighthouse just adds the cherry on top. Considering the exchange rate, this might be the best bargain in Top 100 golf." - Jason Scott Deegan, GolfPass managing editor -
The Heritage Golf Club - Henley Course
Chirnside Park, Yarra Valley & DandenongsPrivateWhat they're saying: "Front 9 is flat & intersected by numerous water hazards.
The back 9 circles around a very large hill.
Loved the layout." - Lozzac -
Palmer Coolum Resort
Green fee: $145
What they're saying: "Overall very good experience. Course was very quiet on a weekday and as a solo in a cart finished in a blistering time. Green conditions were very good, bunkers were in great condition. Challenging layout that requires you to be fairly accurate off the tee but typically the holes are not overly long. Range was in good condition with plenty of grass to hit off. Decent practice green." - GolfPass reviewer -
