Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
Oak Hollow Golf Course is one of two municipally owned golf courses in High Point, N.C. This Pete Dye design is the newer and more popular of the two. The layout features several Dye signatures including pot bunkers and railroad ties but it's the small, undulating greens that are the most recognizable Dye trademark. The golf course has an interesting mix of holes, including several risk-reward opportunities. It's a course that will make you think, rewarding strategy and accuracy over might. The signature hole is the par-4 sixth. This 420-yard hole wraps around a lake with an island tee at the tips that will test the brave. Oak Hollow's toughest hole, though, is the 437-yard 11th, also a par 4. You'll need a perfectly placed tee shot and then after you're met with a triple-tiered green that sits along the water's edge.

Perfect Day Photo submitted by Zippy0058 on 10/17/2016
Great during spring/fall, maybe skip summer/winter
Greens were uncharacteristically slow and long, and the same could be (should be) said regarding the fairways and tee boxes. I think Oak Hollow tends to be a bit of an overlooked gem (how often do you find munis designed by the legendary Pete Dye), but in this case I felt a bit let down. In all fairness the weather wasn't great, and that may have contributed to the grounds staff being unable to mow, but I've played this course 30-35 times in the last 10-15 years and it definitely has seen conditions more conducive to a quality experience
Great weather, excellent conditions, friendly staff, outstanding value
Oak Hollow delivered an outstanding golf experience.
I walked 18 holes for the $13 senior rate, an excellent value. Paired with another walking golfer, we played in under 4 hours, a good pace.
The staff is helpful, friendly, and professional.
Conditions were good from tee to green.
Oak Hollow provides challenge, scenery, value, great staff, and good playing conditions.
I highly recommend Oak Hollow for all skill levels. Put this course on the list of top public layouts in the area.
The pin positions have not been changed in 3 weeks. They must have lead off the greenskeeper.
Great value
Beware of the leaves, otherwise a great winter course with tough shots and great views of the lake!
Fallout
The course was in great shape. Playing in the Fall is ok if you don’t mind loosing a lot of balls. The fall leaves were everywhere which made finding your golf ball very difficult even if you were playing the fairway. If you were in the rough it was so hard looking for your ball and this made the pace of play for us and the groups following us very slow!!
Any other time of year would be much better!!
Perfect weather, friendly staff, great playing conditions, superb value
Oak Hollow is one of my favorite public courses.
The staff is helpful, friendly, and professional.
Eddie in the pro shop, Angie and John in the grill-wonderful! Steve, Director of Golf, is always friendly.
Great value to walk 18 holes for the senior rate of $13.
Playing conditions from tee to green were excellent.
Putting surfaces were consistent and smooth, rolling at a medium speed.
Weather was perfect, in the 70's! Beautiful fall colors made the scenery even more special!
Oak Hollow is a top public course. Plus it is the ONLY Pete Dye municipal layout (who went on to design Harbour Town, a PGA Tour stop, and many more) in North Carolina.
I highly recommend Oak Hollow to everyone. You'll enjoy the experience!
Great Course
If you are in the area, you have to make time to play Oak Hollow. I will be back as soon as possible!
Too many blind shots
Course conditions were disappointing. Greens were slow and very bumpy. Apparently the golfers who play there regularly don't fix their ball marks.
This is a hilly course with plenty of uphill/downhill/sidehill lies. At least half of the tees were not level. The problem with the layout is that far too many shots were to blind landing zones. Fortunately there was very light play so we just went forward many times to see where we had to make the shots.
To play this course well you need to be familiar with the layout and where to hit the ball. I was able to keep the ball in the fairway most of the time. But the rough was deep enough that my playing partner lost a lot of balls there - again, often a problem with blind shots.
Bunkers had hard and ungroomed sand. Many had puddles
I checked "recommend to a friend" but only on the condition that weather hasn't prevented course maintenance from grooming the bunkers and trimming the rough.
Signs are needed near 17th green directing to the 18th hole. When you follow the cart path to the right of the green you end up in the road with no way to get over to the 18th tee.
Great Pete Dye value
Greens were well designed, but could be kept a little better. Bring extra balls, can get tricky off the tee. Great value!
