Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

Great Course!!!
Course was in a great shape considering the recent weather. Staff was professional and organized. Practice facilities were great. This is a must play course. You will not beat the price.
The course is in pretty good shape. On the front 9 we had a pretty good speed going. On the back 9, we started slowing down because there were several 2 some's and even a single in front of us that were stuck behind bigger groups but decided they didn't want to pair up.
Wet
Course was extremely wet after the recent rain. It probably should not have been open for an additional day.
Disappointed
I will tell you that over the last four or five years this course has not changed much except for the new pro shop and Club House that I didn't go in. The greens are bemuda and still need to come in . They were rolling around a 8.The golf carts need to be replaced but the staff was great from the starter to the staff in the pro shop. Would not pay over 25 dollars to play the course.
Great course for traveling golfers
My wife and I were attending a conference in Charlotte, so we double-dipped by throwing in an afternoon of golf prior to the conference. We were sent out early which was fine with us. We played as a twosome, so we eventually caught up to some groups in front of us which was to be expected. Due to recent rains we played cart path only. This was not a hardship and was also to be expected. Very nice grille in the clubhouse. We were treated very well in the pro shop and at the grille. Would definitely play this course again.
Nice layout
Really enjoyed the course and has a great layout. They aerated the greens a while ago and are almost fully healed. This course will be my normal rotation for courses to play in the area.
Golfnow changing t-times?
It was a shame that t-times made on golfnow.com were changed with no notice. The time was scheduled on the Golfnow website so a notice should have been emailed. The guys I played with were delayed for hours. I was delayed by 30 minutes which was annoying especially at that time of day.
All that said, I have always enjoyed playing at Emerald Lake. Its a nice course!
Slow play
Course was overbooked. Slow pace of play. Love the course.
Emerald Lake
Good round, love the course. Only issue was the greens which must have been recently worked. But didn’t bother us too much. Well worth it. Good value for rate.
Still coming into Summer Shape
The course is still coming into summer shape with the greens having markings of a recent punching and the Bermuda hadn't started growing yet. Greens were decently fast and tricky. For a Wednesday 11:30 tee time the pace of play was incredibly slow! Emerald Lake is a good course for the price and allows some wayward shots a chance to find and play. We will be back later after the course comes into shape.
Greens were spiked
I called the course attendant before booking my play to ask if the greens were recently spiked. He said they were a few weeks ago but the holes were mostly filled in now and we're running pretty smooth. They were not. Greens need a couple of weeks at least to be smooth. Had I known they were that bad, I would not have booked it. However I have played this course a number of previous times and for the price I pay, it is a great play for a nice layout.
Windy and fun
Course was in decent shape for this time of yr --they plugged greens several weeks ago and still not back to normal yet--lots of bumps and no such thing as a straight putt....but otherwise course is fun to play and has a nice layout.
I left a 20 dollar deposit on the phone when I got to the course he didn’t adjust the fee he charged me more money it should have been 20 dollars less
Never disappoints
Always kept in great condition. This course offers a challenging enough layout for experienced competetors and modest terrain for intermediate players such as myself. Best course around for the price.
This course has great layout.
The course is the friendly not only for experienced players, but also for beginner. Fairways are wide, & not many hazards. But it is also a fun course for more experienced players. The staffs are so friendly & accommodating.
Fun round
Greens are looking good after aeration. Fairways were good but holding water in a few spots. 17 May as well be a pond. This course is always fun to play!
Good conditions poor communications from the staff
We checked in around 12:40 for our 12:57 tee time. The person at the desk gave us our ticket and off we went. We were able to tee off right away. We soon found that we had a singe in front of us, then 2 twosomes in front of the single, then a slow playing foursome front of them. We could tell when we made the turn that there was at least 2 holes open in front of the foursome. We ended the 16th hole around 4:50pm when a young man from the pro shop said we had to come in because they had a tournament or something going on. When we got back to the clubhouse we could see they had a golf league going off. I went inside and asked the GM why had no one told us about this when we teed off, and all he could say was did no one tell you that at the desk? I then found 2 men from the club outside and asked the same question and why could they not have someone say something to the slow playing foursome. His response was, why did not go around them? Then said he was sorry, that was it. Course was in good shape for this time of year!
Potential
The title says it. This place is loaded with potential. The price was great but I found out why right away when I saw the greens were plugged and sanded. I wish they would be kind enough to disclose that!! Love the new clubhouse. I’ll be back later.
