Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

My father came along for the ride , not a golfer but was very impressed with the beauty of this course Photo submitted by Jamie5277593 on 05/02/2013
Better than before
All things considered, the course was in better shape than past times I've played. The new club house is very nice. The greens are better manicured than I've ever seen them, and the traps were well maintained. Drawback on the course is there are several areas with very thick mud.
Positive for food is you have the ability to call ahead from the 9th hole to have your food ready for you, however $32 for 6 hotdogs (0 drinks) is kind of pricey.
Course has many pluses, always enjoy playing this course
Very challenging for amateur players like us. But we like a challenge.
Love the 14th hole
Didn’t realize I played the course before until I got to the signature 14th hole. It’s a challenging, but fun hole. Overall, the course was good. Looking forward to getting on this course again. This may become my go to golf course.
Fun layout
The course was in great shape. Great value. The only complaint is the over watering of the areas around the greens. Our entire group plugged quite a few balls around the greens and it hasn’t rained for over a week.
Emerald Lake 8-9
This course is in really good shape right now. The greens are some of the best I have played on in a while. They hold incoming shots well and they putt true. The only real problem with them is people not fixing ball marks properly, which seems to be an epidemic in Charlotte. Fairways and tee boxes are nice and filled in. The only complaints I have about my round is some of the bunkers were a little washed out. Also I played after 4, there was no starter, groups were stacked up at the first tee, and it was a free for all. Pace of play could have been better.
Power-tripping marshal
Course was in great shape, but the starter could not have been more rude. He demanded, literally yelling, for us to be on the tee, 20 minutes before our actual tee time. Then, for whatever reason, he placed a twosome, behind us (a foursome); brilliant. This guy needs to check ego.
If you're expecting a quick snack, on the turn, the grill room takes about 15 minutes, to prepare sandwiches, and they are NOT reasonably priced.
ZERO complaints about the course itself. I wish people knew how to repair ball marks, though.
needs new management
I have tried to play this course at least a dozen times. I cannot remember finishing more than once. The course is usually in pretty good shape. With the exception of 3 or 4 holes, it is a really fun layout.
However, the staff have no idea what is going on outside of the clubhouse. The starter tries, nut is limited as to what he can do. Groups are not paired, members jumping off without checking in.
Also, pace of play is horrible. Throw in the amount of noise from the close in houses, barking dogs, and maintenance people not really caring about pausing to let a group through, and you have a pretty poor golf experience.
Too many other venues in Charlotte to play here again, I will not be back.
First time, will be back
Played the course for the first time. Paired with a twosome who had played the course and their knowledge helped on a number of holes for position off the tee and approach to the greens. Course was in excellent shape, both fairways and greens. Layout of course was good. Pace of play very good for a weekday morning going off at 9:30 am. No group directly in front of us or behind us. Will definitely return for more rounds.
Emerald Lake
Course was in good condition as fairways are filling out nicely and the greens were quite good. Pace of play was a bit on the slow side as we were a twosome playing behind groups of four but we still finished in 4:30. My wife found the course rather long from the forward tees. Overall, a good experience and would recommend playing the course
Value
Everything was really nice would like to suggest more frequent racking of the bunkers still early in the season sure things will only be getting better
Great value for your buck
nice course, great value
Wed afternoon play, so not overly crowded and pace of play went well. Started out as single, then got another single (Jamal) played up around hole 4 and we joined...then another (Ron) on hole 10ish played up and joined us...then on hole 16 another Ron motioned us to play up, and he joined group as well...so started as single, and ended up as friendly four-some.
Overall the course is in good condition for time of year, will play it again.
There is one par 5 which starts with a tee shot over long water (especially from Emerald tees), then second shot (or third) is over water again to smalish green.
I shoot int he 90s, and played from the emerald (furthest back) tees. I shot 96 on this round. So course is not overly tough, but does have some nice risk-reward challenges.
Nice new clubhouse, but didn't really use it.
My understanding is that the member monthly rates were 150/mo, but they just jumped them to 350/mo....that's a crazy jump up. I can see whty people are shifting to just paying daily rate when they want to play.
Anyway, try it out...good course, and good value.
Slow Play in beginning
Overall enjoyed the outing. Play started out slow because there was a five-some in front of us. After conversation on 3rd hole they picked up pace. The course does not have any rangers to monitor pace of play.
