Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

Challenging but fun
This was my first round since October and the greens were aerated. The course listed through GolfNow about the greens so that was no surprise when I got there. Pulling into the course I was nervous about pace due to the number of cars in the parking lot. Even though the pace seemed slow because I was in a threesome, we still finished the round in 4.5 hours. This was a great play especially for the cost. A must play.
Good round
Tee time was 1 pm. Pull in and no parking. Drove around the small lot for over 10 minutes looking for a spot. Had to wait on every shot. 5 hour round! I love the course but won’t play that late again.
EXCELLENT Course
Always a great place to play. Staff is great, and course layout is excellent. This time around, the pace of play was a little slow (about 4hrs 30min). It usually plays faster. Course conditions were average. Then it again it is mid-March. Seems like the course will be excellent once spring sets in.
Bermuda is still sleeping
This course is awesome in the summer, but this time of year while the Bermuda is still dormant, the course gets pretty muddy in spots. Especially 16-18. Greens were super fast
4 Balls Donated to Emerald Lake UNWILLINGLY
Harsh review explanation: This was my first time playing Emerald Lake and the weather couldn't be worse. It was 55° with 20mph winds so it was freezing and I played terrible.
Nice place but in really bad shape (the only green part of the course was the lake)
If you go there, notice how nice and green all the community backyards are when compared to the course (Bermuda blows)
Sand traps were full of rocks and lakes were full of my balls!
Nice looking club house restaurant but some toilet paper anywhere in the bathroom would've be nice.
Time to upgrade golf carts - how do the community residents not complain about the noise & smell of gas fumes!
Course had a fun layout with wide fairways and not too many trees. I will go back once the grass turns green and I restock my ball inventory.
Typical
Typical that this course would be overbooked. They are all about making money and not providing a good golf experience. I was paired up with a twosome but I wasn't told that they were only playing 9. It took 2.5 hours to play the 9, waiting on every tee, and there was no way I was going to play another 9 by myself. It would have been at least a five hour round and it was a Friday!! Ridiculous!!
WEDDINGS MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOLF
played on sunday morning. snack bar was closed so we would not disturb a wedding party. staff in pro shop was spending more time on the wedding than the pro shop. each time i went into the shop i had to wait at least 10 minutes before anyone came in to take care of golfers. at 2pm the entire course ( snack bar driving range and course) closed!! this is the only course i have played where golfers are not a priority!!
Great Course
Played following several hours of light rain; course was a bit sloppy, but still a great value for the money. The new club house is an added bonus.
Course drainage
The geeens were fast and firm. The course does not drain well at all. It didn’t rain in over a week and around the greens was very wet and soggy. We had to pickup and hit from fairway. Even most fairways were still wet and hard to hit out. I was shocked it was this wet.
Good golf
Nice layout, very fair, greens are in very good shape.
The course was wet but that happens this time of year. Staff was very friendly and the starter did a great job with his hands full on a busy Friday.
Emerald Lake Golf Club-Update
Played Emerald Lake on Friday. Weather was absolutely perfect. Course is in fairly good shape, other than the fact that it was really wet in spots, which was odd, as it hasn't rained much at all lately. Greens were the best I've seen them at Emerald Lake in quite sometime. The bermuda on the fairways and rough is still dormant, but should start greening up soon. They had some tees pushed up as they were letting some boxes recover. New clubhouse/grill is gorgeous. Pace of play was good. Our threesome got around in exactly 4 hours despite several foursomes directly in front of us. The club has followed through on their pledge to speed up play by among other things having marshals patrolling the course and cutting the rough lower. That's great to see.
Challenging course
Greens were in very good condition. New club house is very nice!
Great time
i have not been there since they raised their prices ( which I understand since the new clubhouse is fantastic) I love their course. I found a good deal on GolfNow and jumped on it. It was a cool day but we had a blast. 3.5 hr round on a Saturday can't beat that! I'll be back I am sure of it!
Excellent Condition
I haven’t played this course in over a year and I was surprised of how well maintained the Fairways and greens were considering it’s still winter. The greens were just right, not to fast or to slow. The new clubhouse looks great. I will definitely be back multiple times this year!
Always liked this course
Its a golf course that is well taken care of. Hard to find for the price. I love the course...but i also hate it...but that's because i suck at golf nothing to do with the course. lol I plan on getting a membership once the weather is steady warm.
Disappearing Golf Balls
This was my first time playing this course. The dormant Bermuda rough was so unbelievably HIGH that balls were sucked down to the bottom and literally disappeared. Gone. If you weren't on the fairway, your ball was lost. I mentioned this after the round to the fellow working in the pro shop. He told me that the rough mower was broken and didn't know when it was going to be repaired. Even at the crazy low price I paid for the round, it wasn't worth the annoyance and frustration that came with losing 6-8 golf balls.
Great Course - Too expensive compared to others in the area
I have always been a fan of Emerald lake and is typically one of my favorite courses to play in the Charlotte area. However, since they built their new clubhouse and restaurant, they have priced themselves out of the golfing market in Charlotte. Emerald lake does not earn a $65 pp round (not many in Charlotte do. Also, if you are going to continue to charge that much, at least keep the pace of play to less than 5 hours.
As for the course, the fairways, greens, and traps were all in excellent condition. Leaves suck as always but that's anywhere this time of year.
I think Emerald lake is a great course in the area and would love to see their prices get more competitive in the Summer with other courses. Right now, there are a lot of courses in the charlotte area that offer a better price and course.
Good deal
The course is in decent shape, The greens are really good and the dormant fairways provide decent lies. The rough is too high and it makes it hard to find balls. There were some leaves on the first couple of holes but its that time of year. The course was packed but it was a beautiful November day with a tight golf window. We made it through 18 before dark though.
Decent Course for the money
Last time I played Emerald Lake was about 8-9 years ago. So when I drove up today to see a brand new clubhouse and banquet building, I was surprised. Apparently the old clubhouse burned down, such a shame to hear, but they definitely improved the quality and atmosphere of the buildings. The range is pretty nice and open, but so close to the first few holes, don’t hit it left! You may never find your ball in the sea of range balls. The tee boxes need some love, and some leveling to be completely flat. The rough is still fairly high, enough to cover your ball. The grass is in decent shape considering it’s almsot December. The fairways were in good shape with little divots and sandy areas. Cart paths need work, but some pets have been repaved, so you know they are working on it. Greens are in good shape and roll true. That’s if you’re lucky enough to get a line without 15 ball marks that other disrespectful golfers won’t repair. If I wasn’t playing with 3 other random players, I could have spent 5 minutes each green fixing ball marks. Some bunkers have no sand in them and are hard as concrete. And you can tell the course is suffering from neglect from players and the maintenance crew. Overall, it’s a nice course and worth $25 for 18, but I wouldn’t pay much more to play here.
