Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

Great Value
The greens are perfect, speedy and true. Not an overly long track, but 9-12 holes will test your accuracy and course managment.
A must play if you are in the Charlotte area.
Loved the course, greens are fast, pace is too slow
I played Emerald Lake on an upper 50's day on March 17, 2017. It was my first time to play this course. I very much enjoyed the layout. A bit short, but we played the white tees. The greens were in very good shape and very fast. I had a hard time getting my shots to stick to the greens but I will take the blame for that. The greens are very challenging being quick and undulated, but I like that much more than slow boring greens. I really enjoyed the aesthetics and design of the course as well. Each hole had something interesting in it's layout. The course is in good shape for March.
The only problem was the extremely slow pace of play. We waited for up to 15 minutes for 2 groups in front of us to proceed before being able to tee off. It really makes it hard to get any consistency when sitting for that long. They need to space out their tee times or something. So the course was very good but the experience was almost ruined by the pace of play. I will go back however and hope it is better next time.
One other small thing. At the driving range they were allowing people to hit from spots not on the range (yes there were plenty of open spots, just without much grass). The issue was they were driving almost right over the small (and not very good) chipping area. It was too dangerous to use. The quality of the chipping area and not being able to use it, plus the very small practice putting green cause me to give the "Off Course Amenities" a 2 star rating.
Overall I am still going with a 4 star rating since I really enjoyed the course. I don't want to overstate my criticism. Go enjoy this course.
course condition
The course was good for this time of the year. It was dry enough where there was a roll out on most of the drives. The green where very good for this time. Of course the fairways will lack green grass as it is too early for it to be growing.
Course in pretty good shape for this time of year. Greens nice and fast.
Always a good value!
I've always enjoyed playing Emerald ever since i moved to North Carolina. Course. Course is always in reliable shape and i love the layout!
Just your average golf course
The greens where ok and had some speed to them. The course is not a long course mostly hit 3 & 5 wood all day. Average layout nothing to tricky and condition of course was average for this time of year. All and all very playable golf course for golfers of all skill level.
The only thing I have real negative to say about my experience here was the guy at the pro shop. Told me they where backed up and that I may have to wait an extra 10-15 minutes, but would try to get me sooner if possible. After warming up on the range and waiting the extra 15 minutes no one every came to me, so I went back inside and ask if I was good to go now. And he took a quick look around outside the window and said yeah your good. Now mind you that the pro shop windows look out over the first two holes and the driving range. Just seemed that the pro shop was not concerned about getting people going off the first tee or the pace of play. Which is not the kind of professionalism you expect from any decent golf course. But I'm sure it was just an off day for them. I would still say it's a course to try
Much improved
This course was much improved from when I last played. Updated pro shop and improved greens. Very impressed with this course.
HI "Jacob1323099" Thank you for the great review. We are so glad we were able to improve our conditions and were able to impress you. Please come back and see us again soon.
Right Direction
This course has come a long way in past 12 months. Greens are 100% better, bunkers have great renewed sand. Tee boxes are really turning into Tee boxes. Was just a pleasure to see this course moving in the right direction. Club house to be finished soon and Pro Shop is up and running. Pricing is a plus also, automation is also an asset from checkin to the starter. This is turning into a great gem in the area. Only negative comment, need to get a course Ranger flying around. Foursome in front of us hit multiple balls off tees and played whack-a-mole out on the fairways when they were on them. Need to get weekend rounds under 4 hours. 4 hours and 50 min was just horrible.
Hi "u000004776408 " Thank you for the great feedback. We hope you enjoyed your round with us. We will definitely pass along your comments regarding pace of play to see if we can smooth out any issues.
Good Course with a few issues
First time playing this course in a while due to other reviews on the shape of the greens. They are coming around but there were still some problems with golfers not repairing ball marks. Only other issue was with drainage. There were a number of really soft spots, especially around the greens, where the feet just sunk in.
Hi "tmathesctcnet" We appreciate your honest review and are so glad you decided to give us another try. As our course continues to transition into the cool fall months we will only get better. Please come back and visit us again soon!
Great weather, great round
Course was as good as I've ever seen it. Fairways, rough, fringe all in good condition with little to no "in repair" spots that impacted play. Greens were in good condition; more divots than desired but that is due to lazy players, not the course staff. New clubhouse is being built; have built a smaller, permanent clubhouse that will likely be used as a party/event space. The trailer that's been there for 4-5 years is gone! Overall, happy with course, would play again!

Great weather great day
Greens a little beat up but that's because folks are not repairing their divots. Overall a great day playing

Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback and are happy you enjoyed your round. We hope to see you back shortly!
Greens are terrible
Greens were in atrocious conditions. Ball marks everywhere. Cups were all in terrible conditions. You're be better of putting on a gravel road.
adamshirah-

Fix your divots
Greens could use some work but I knew that before I played. Love the lay out.
Hi "mayandfelton" Thank you for your honest feedback. We are constantly trying to improve the overall course facility and appreciate you pointing this out to us. We are glad you enjoyed the layout and hope to see you back out on the course in the near future.
Slow Day
Pace of play was unbelievable slow and one simple suggestion could fix the problem. Stop sending twosomes off right behind one another. Also, a marshall riding around to monitor the slow groups wouldn't hurt.
Hi "d1am0nd5" Thank you for leaving us a review. We Apologize that the pace of play was not the best today. We are working hard to pair up groups and speed up play so that this will no longer become an issue. We appreciate you patience and hope you will give us another try in the near future.
"Well if you didn't throw it, how did it get here!?"
I play here atleast once a week mon-fri. By far the best course for its price. A few other courses within the same driving distance for me are over priced for the condition they're in. Once the new clubhouse is finished this course is gonna blow up! First time playing tomorrow here on a Saturday. A lil concerned as of the negative reviews of pace of play. I guess I'll find out.
HI "churchmatt20" Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We definitely would love to here how your experience was with us after your round on Saturday. Please let me know how we did?

Nice Layout and good conditions, pace was not the best since we had a foursome and threesome ahead of us.
