Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

My father came along for the ride , not a golfer but was very impressed with the beauty of this course Photo submitted by Jamie5277593 on 05/02/2013
good course...currently aerating greens
Good course, like the layout, all around good course, enjoy playing it. They are currently aerating the greens, large holes and lots of sand on greens, almost like putting in a hard bunker. It's a necessary evil to get the greens good for the fall I understand but they were bad. Even with the bad greens still had a good round and enjoy emerald lake!

Played the course today and the staff was great minus the ranger lol . After the first hole noticed the greens were infested with crab grass 80% of the bunkers were washed out . Was like they were placed where the rain drains . 18th hole had bridge washed out . Needs a lot of TLC . Had they mentioned the condition we wouldn't have played there . $40 way over priced considering the water damage .
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Often times customers do not express their concerns following a round and we do not have the opportunity to see them. Regarding the course conditions, the Matthews area was hit with over 11.5" of rain on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. These rains flooded the area to the point where many roads and golf courses were closed on Thursday and Friday. We decided to remain open even though the heavy rains had completely washed away multiple bunkers, including the biggest bridge on the golf course. The staff has been working around the clock to get the course back to a playable condition. Since your round the day after the heavy storms, we have repaired all of the affected bunkers and the course has dried out. As it turns out, the bridge cannot be simply fixed on 18, so we have started to completely rebuild it. That bridge will be finished this week and the course will return to the exceptional conditions it has seen all summer. Thank you again for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Sincerely MGT
In good shape
If you're local, you probably know the layout is nice. Recent reviews really help with course conditions. Emerald Lake was in very good shape last Sunday
Hi "DerrickC07" Thanks for the Great review, so glad you enjoyed your round with us. The course is in excellent shape right now, the reviews really speak for themselves. Thanks for playing!
Great value
Got a Hot Deal, so it was well worth it. Greens were a bit rough. Overall course was in good condition. Staff is very friendly.
Hi "u000007334085" Thanks for the Great Review, glad you enjoyed the course today. Please come back and visit us soon!
A good course, that could be great
I don't play this course often, only one to two times a year. I really want to like this course more, it has a good layout, fun and challenging at the same time. I realize this has been a hot, dry summer, but the course always seems the same which is why I don't play here more - fairways were hard and dry, greens soft and wet, and this time weeds/foreign grasses on greens making putting very challenging. There were also several dead fish (some large) floating in one of the ponds. It's a great value, but I would gladly pay more for this course in better overall shape. This is a good course, but could be great.
Hi "daemerick71" Thank you for your honest review, we are in our transitioning period from summer to fall and will be aerifing in the next few weeks. Because of this transition the course is going through some changes. We hope that this will not influence your opinion on the course as all courses have to go through this transition. We hope you will give us a another try in the next month when we are back to our normal conditions.
Par for the course
The Lake was in good shape since we have had no rain.
Hi "thaole789" Thanks for the review!
First Timer
Great set up, only problems were the green were very rough (ball divots) also cart didn't any sand to replace divots in fairways. Otherwise enjoy the course.
Hi "slazengertom" Thanks for the review, we are glad you enjoyed your day. We will look into properly supplying the carts before they go out. Thank you for making us aware of the situation. Thanks MGT
Emerald
Staff was friendly, starter was very helpful and funny. The course was in good shape for a hot summer. The greens were receptive and very consistent. Made for excellent putting. Pace of play was excellent. You won't be disappointed like I was at The Divide the week before.
Hi "marc1590" Thanks for the GREAT review, come back and play us again soon!
Good course and worth playng it again.
Hi! I have a 20 handicap and have played emerald Lake 6 times. I have ben pleased with the course, facilities and staff.
The driving range is good and a large bucket --I'm guessing it has about 70 balls-- costs $10 if I remember correctly.
The original clubhouse burned down and there is a temporary one in a trailer. It serves the purpose.
The friendliness of the staff varies. I have dealt with very nice and helpful folks and some who have no clue about customer service.
The course is in good shape despite the recent drought. The fairways and greens are fine but some greens do show signs of abuse. I don't blame the course staff for it; I blame the idiots who don't repair their ball's marks.
To me, the course is fairly challenging. With some tee shots you face narrow fairways, substantial changes in elevation and sometimes both. Nonetheless, the course is enjoyable.
The length of the holes is reasonable. I'm 50 and play from the white tees. If I remember correctly, the longest hole is 18 and it is right around 500 yards.
There is a par 3 (The 16th hole I think) that is about 180-185 yards but I can reach it with my 2 hybrid.
My one complain is that sometimes the quality of the people you encounter is less than desirable. Yesterday, there were a couple of guys next to me at the driving range wearing flip flops and tank tops. They teed off 2 groups behind me.
Other than that, I am happy with the place and will play it again.
Hi "ricardomata65" Thank you for the excellent review. We are so glad you enjoyed yourself on this particular day. We have taken your comments into concern and will revisit the proper training for our staff. Thanks!
Nice round on a good course on a beautiful day!
This is the first time that I have had the chance to play Emerald Lake this year. The course is in very nice condition. The new tee boxes have come in very well. The tree removal gives the course a different look in many areas. I have seen the work that the staff has been doing over the course of the last year or so and it is paying dividends. The only thing missing is the fountain in the pond on #4. Great job. Hope to get back out more times this year.
Hi "griffrf"Thanks for the great review, we are so glad that you enjoyed your round with us. Please come back and visit us again!
nice round
Always enjoy playing here. Couse in good condition with lack of rain.
Hi "meagan531" Thank you for the great review! We hope to see you out here again very soon!
Great condition except greens
Very happy with the overall condition except most of the greens have many, many unrepaired ball marks. I would fix 4 or 5 per green and it still left many to be fixed.
Hi "rgripit" Thank you for the comment, we are working on spreading the word. Thanks for the great review, please come back and visit us this weekend for "The Open"
good course
First time playing this course. Decent shape greens were a little rough. Back nine got a little slow but not too bad.
Hi "matt2593777" Thanks for playing with us! Don't forget to book your tee time with us during "The Open" golf tournament as we have some great golf specials this weekend.
Going Downhill
This course started out good at the beginning of the year but has been going downhill ever since. Last round I played it was fairly busy and in the high to mid 90's. Not a drop of water on the course, no cold water or drinks in the clubhouse (which is an old trailer). No cart service which is ok I guess if you are a camel. So if u r a camel this course will be a great for you.
Hi "enienaber" We apologize for the inconvenience, we always have water throughout the course and inside the Golf Shop. We did have a cart girl on the course Friday but maybe she did not get around fast enough. We would like to offer you a promo code on your next round. Please email me directly at EmeraldLakeTeeTimes@Outlook.com so we don't leave a bad impression on your last round with us. Thank You Emerald Lake MGT
Great course
course was in great shape. Played for about $30 on a Friday morning, excellent deal on golf now. Worth double that amount. Greens were recently punched but were in fair shape.
Hi "Scott9970523" Thanks for coming out and playing Emerald Lake Golf Club. We are glad you enjoyed your round! Don't forget to book your tee time with us this coming holiday weekend! Enjoy your fourth of July!
Enjoyable round
An enjoyable round at a great price.
Worth your time, the course is in good condition.
Hi "stuba66" Thank you so much for playing Emerald Lake Golf Club, the course is in excellent condition!! Please come back and visit us this weekend, bring your friends!
A nice course
My 12 year old daughter and I played this course, and she had so much fun. It was her first time, not my first time. I have always liked Emerald Lake. The greens and fairways were very well kept this time. A great value for the cost.
Hi rross64 Thank you for coming out and playing Emerald Lake Golf Club. We are constantly trying to improve our course conditions. Please come back and visit us soon.
Rained. Didn't get to play.
Disappointed as wanted to play but raining and breezy.
Hello u0000080905, we are sorry the weather was a factor on the day that you played Emerald Lake Golf Club. Please visit us again soon on a more sunnier day.
Great greens
Greens were in excellent shape but the tee boxes were overgrown and most tee boxes were moved around to accommodate them growing properly, it made some holes to short and some way to long. Other than that the course was in great condition.
Ok
Apparently stopping at the turn for refreshments is frowned upon at this facility. My group was approached around hole 13 and asked to speed up. We kept our same pace and at the end the ranger came by and thanked us for speeding up. So if it's sunny and in the 90s, you have bee forewarned, do not stop at the turn or you will be hassled.
Hi "ncslowjoe " Thank you for the recent review. The course is going through a transition period due to aerification. Like you said its a necessary evil that all courses must go through. Please come back and play us again in a few weeks when the course is great shape!. Thanks MGT
