Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

Interesting experience
I used to play Emerald Lake on a very frequent basis and loved the course. Then the price went up and made it not as much a value as it once was. I decided to check it out again and have to say I was fairly disappointed with the bunkers(sand traps) all being gutted and closed, as well as the construction work going on. I do understand that eventually these things should be completed and back to a great condition but based upon this I feel the price was too high even though I only paid $22. It was close to a 4:00 tee time in February so we only got 12 holes completed before it got too dark to play. Given the conditions and timing I feel the "twilight" rate should have been around $10.
Fun Course
Chris was very accomodating and professional. I would go back just because of him!
Good Value
This is a great course for the price. It offers a variety of hole types: some easy, some offer fun risk-reward opportunities, some are downright hard. Nice overall layout, decent range and the staff is friendly. Definitely need to check it out.
Great Course
This has been one of my favorite courses since moving to the area in 2008. I've played this course more than any other and can't wait to see the new clubhouse and course layout. cours is in good condition for this time of year. Greens roll true fairways are good (you need to keep stots in the fairway as a ball could get lost under leaves and pine conse off the edges of the fairways) Hate loosing balls on not so bad shots. Would definately reccommend this course. The golfnow rate was a great deal as well..
Almost Perfect
I like this course a lot. I have played here and would recommend it. However, right now they are doing construction on a few holes (10 and 17 stand out) so I would call the pro shop and see the status of the construction. Other than that, go play this course.
Course in need of maintence
The front desk staff were nice and friendly.
I have played this course many times over the years.
This course is very flat and does not drain well, it was very wet considering it had not rained in days.
Send traps were in poor shape either no drainage or little sand and very hard. The layout of this course is very good and challenging.
unsatisfied
I used to play this course numerous times through the year. I luckily got this tee time on a steal for half price, and even with that i believed i paid too much. For the money they charge to play this course you would think they would spend some of that money on working with the drainage and on the bunkers. Course was still holding casual water 2 days later after the rain. Bunkers barely had any sand in them. The two good things about this course is the lay out of the course, great use of the land and some holes where you can grip it and rip it. And other holes where you have to play target golf. The other good thing is the green rolled true and with decent speed. Unless i hear good things down the road i will probably not come back to play unless i am on this side of town.
Good for the $
Not great but a nice public course. Close to the highway and easily accessible.
Good Value for decent layout & condition
Enjoyed the round and the golf course.
Chris is the pro, very nice guy took good care of us before and following our round.
Thanks,

Needs Sand & a Clubhouse
Course is in pretty good shape as long as you avoid the bunkers which are in desperate need of sand. Greens held and rolled well despite the unattractive weed issue that persists. Still surprised there is no new clubhouse 2 and a half years after fire destroyed the original. Cart paths need repair. However, convenience and value dictate I will return soon !
Great shape great pace
Course is in great shape. Greens rolling pretty fast. Play here a lot and the conditions are really good and getting better daily.
Greens need major attention
Picked this course up on a hot deal. Needs some attention. Greens where full of weeds and very inconsistant. Illegal pin placements on several greens. Nice fairway, tee boxes a little long. Great carts and friendly staff. Nice range. Fix the greens and build a clubhouse and it will be a great destination.
Nice Course for a Good Price
Very much enjoyed playing a course with hills and valleys after playing Florida courses all year long. Some very challenging holes with trees and water, but overall a fair course. Always difficult playing a course for the first time, but hope to come this way and try it again.
Excellent value - $42 midday
Despite the 30min hike from uptown, I was more than willing to return to this beautiful course given the scarcity of value-priced options inside the city limits. Still operating out of a mobile home until the new clubhouse is built (old one burned) so food/beverage options are limited. The par 5 on the back that crosses the lake twice and ends up on a peninsula green is picturesque and challenging to reach (and hold) in two. The greens are in good shape and the fairways are lush in color. Attractive neighborhood with beautiful brick homes abound. Will play here again soon.
Emerald lake
First time playing the course and will definitely be back. Had a great day.
This course is mistreated
I have played some times in this course and it is getting worse day by day. This Saturday the greens was mistreated. The course is wonderful and could be a great place but.....
Front Nine Twice
When we arrived to the course we found out that they had just that morning aerated the greens on the back 9 and had it closed. We were told that we could play the front 9 twice but that it's greens had been aerated and sanded the day before. They had said nothing about this to GolfNow so we were blindsided when we showed up to the course. The man behind the counter didn't seem friendly at all and when we made the "turn" it took him what seemed like forever to put a couple 6-packs in coolers for us. Our 4-some will not be returning, regardless of the amazing deals we can find on GolfNow.
this course had its greens punched and sanded heavily
There was no notification that the greens has been punched and sanded as heavily as they were.
Greens were punched that morning
Paid $32 to play the front 9 twice this was due to the greens being aerated. The front 9 had just been completed and they were doing the back 9 that day. I did not know this or I would have never made the tee time. The greens on the front 9 were NOT playable - the surface was complete sand. We played 9 holes and stopped putting after the first hole. We just practiced around the green and then moved on. In lieu of a 9 hole rain check we decided to hit balls at the driving range. Practice area is very good and the course tee to green is great but not knowing that they were aerating was frustrating. Wait 2 weeks and then it should be great.
