Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

My father came along for the ride , not a golfer but was very impressed with the beauty of this course Photo submitted by Jamie5277593 on 05/02/2013
Sub par condition 9/7/13
Normally one of my favorite courses. Their usually well-maintained greens were in poor shape, tee boxes were shaggy, bunkers lacked sand. Generally seems like they just don't care like they used to. Pace of play was unusually slow, and even when we informed the clubhouse we never saw a ranger or any improvement.
I hope they get their act together, as I really like the layout.
great course and maintenance ned to have ranger to have people fix divots on green i fixed at least five every green i was on
have players fix divots other than that course is great
Decent Course
The course was in ok shape when we played. Definitely needed some TLC. The greens, and fairways had some scattered weeds throughout the course. Drainage was pretty poor as the bunkers were full of a water/sludge that smelled pretty badly (thankfully one of the other guys in the group had to deal with that mess). The greens were also full of ball marks that were never fixed. I don't blame the course fully for that, some people who play here have no golf etiquette. As we were getting ready to tee off, a twosome pulled up behind us and we let them play through thinking it would happen eventually as we were a foursome. As they were teeing off, two more groups of two pull up. In my head, if there were someone regulating pace of play, they could have asked the groups to become 1 foursome instead. Not bad for the value. I would definitely play there again.
Scenic
This course was excellent! I will certainly play again many more times for the price I got from golfnow.com.
Beautiful day out.
Challenging...and SUPERB!
Centrally located...Good layout.
All of the rain this year has made golfing a true pleasue..
Great for the price
First time player at this course and was very surprised at how nice it was for the money. All the yardage markers I found to be very accurate. Also, Par 5 5th hole is one of the nicest holes around with the island green. Will definitely be back!!
Good course for the average golfer
Course is well maintained. Greens are in good shape. There is a need for the regulation tees and the senior tees to be separated more.
Nice course for the money.
The course was a bit crowded on the front nine with a late Saturday morning tee time, but cleared up nicely at the turn. Fairways and tee boxes were well maintained, while there were a good amount of old ball marks on the greens. Greens still played fairly true.
The staff is awesome, friendly, and genuinely happy. I wish players would fix ball marks on greens. I love the ambiance and course layout. Fun course.
I love the course layout and the beauty of the environment. Enjoy it every round of play and truly recommend to all level of golfers.
pace a little off
Pace off due to my pairing. I was a single walking and my usual pace is in line with the USGA standard Pace or little faster even on busy weekends. round took over 5 hours due to the 3 gentleman I was paired with.Drained more beers than Putts. I did walk an additional 9 where the pace was much better. completed the 3 rd 9 in just under 2 hours. Overall course condition's were good. had some weed issues in the fairways and around the greens. Chose this course based on the reviews stating best greens in Charlotte. Greens were simply ok. lots of pitch marks and greens look as though they had not been cut in a day or so. layout was challenging but not overly difficult.
Course was in good shape, but took way too long to play.
The course was very plush and the greens were very receptive, but due to lack of divot repair, there were a lot of bad ball marks. The main problem was the lack of a ranger. We had to wait on every shot and could tell that one foursome was holding up at least 3 groups in front of us, and we were walking.
Overall great course and it never lets me down.
Emerald Lake GC is a wonderful course which challenges you on the par 3's and have a few long par 4's. Its a course Im comfortable with. And I will go back to.
Excellent course, greens need a little attention.
Great course and I enjoyed playing at Emerald Lake. The weather did not co-operate with us but we made the best of it. The greens had tons of balls marks requiring attention, a result of laziness left behind from previous golfers. I would like to return on a better day for another round, I would recommend this course.
The course was in good shape despite all the rain.
The course was in good shape. The staff and concessions were very cordial and friendly. Because of all the rain that we have gotten over the past month, the playing conditions were good and challenging. There was no waiting on other golfers so the pace of play was very good. The greens were in good shape despite all the rain also.
Great overall test of Golf
Emerald Lake was in great shape when I played (07/24/13). Fairways were plush with good lies, and greens rolled beautifully. Offered a great test, as all clubs come into play. New carts, and a 4 hour round, added to the experience.
this course has great features
on a scale from 1-10, I give it an 9. the day that I played the course had suffered and number of soaking rains around the area, even with that , the course played very well.
Understandably wet and in incredible shape
I played this golf course for the first time on their 20th straight day of rain. The course was wet but in great shape, especially the greens. These were the best putting surfaces I have seen this season. Fairways were in good shape, but wet. The rough was thick in some spots due to the rain and not being able to mow. Overall, I cannot wait to come back and play when the weather has not been so horrible. Great track.
It was ok...
The course wasn't in that great of shape. In fact both myself and my playing mate were often hitting from mud, sand, uncut grass right dead center in the fairway. The course needed some work. The greens were actually in very good condition although the spring downpours we have had in the past couple weeks made them slow and soft. It was 90% humidity the day we went so that doesn't help either. For the price, not complaining.
best ever green
Best greens I've played so far this year. The course is in great condition. Where's the Clubhouse? It's been almost a year since Clubhouse burned down and still no sign of new one being built.
No clubhouse at present. Spring conditions - cartpath only due to rains.
Clubhouse was lost in a fire last year and they are working out of a mobile unit. Course is a beautiful layout and challenging on several holes. It is usually in great condition but the greens were still recovering from last year's extreme heat. They are coming back nicely. It was cart path only on the day I played there due to heavy rains before.
