Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

My father came along for the ride , not a golfer but was very impressed with the beauty of this course Photo submitted by Jamie5277593 on 05/02/2013
nice course for the money.
Good course
Layout. Not overly long and fair when you hit good shots. Greens are in good shape. Watch out for snakes as we saw three the other day playing. Well worth the money. Can get backed up on some busy days.
The 5th hole, a long par 5 that's reachable in 2 to a peninsula green that looks like 17 at Sawgrass made it all worth it. The pin placement was Sunda
Course was a great value booking on Golfnow.com. Nice track that's scoreable if you can control your driver. Course amenities lacking though. Temporary club house and no starter/ranger, until you attempt to play with 5 like I did because the 3 they were going to pair me with were a no-show and there was no starter to be found to correct these issues. I caught the 4 ahead and they let me join them. I was enjoying my round until management showed up. I pushed back and told them my thoughts on their course management. He promptly comped me a round and offered his apologies. Clubhouse aside, if they add some course management, this could be a great course for the money.
The course in great shape
My first time ever playing this great golf course. I have passed this course many times, and have never played this fantastic course. But I will return in the future for many times to come. The staff was very friendly and the driving range and putting green was in great shape. Some of the most challenging holes I have ever played, I have played courses from the mountains to the coast of North Carolina, and have played some prestigious golf courses and I would rank this course as in the top five of courses that I have played or even worked at. I highly recommend this course to anyone whom loves this game of golf, It is one gorgeous lay out and as well as challenging.
they could be better
This course has potential but it lacks a lot of details. Bunkers have rocks in them. There are parts of the greens that are missing fairways were ok but I would of thought the ground would be softer after it rained last night but its hard as a rock. The staff doesn't seem happy or at least welcoming.
Nicely designed
Moderate first 9 and challenging back 9. Not fancy club house, but well maintained course with friendly staff. Great for its fee!!
This is one of my Favorite Courses in Charlotte/Surrounding Areas
Of course with it being Winter I knew at some point they would aerate the greens but went to play and was a little disappointed in the way the greens looked. Of course today's rating is purely based on my experience from Friday. I'm pretty sure when I go back around April I'll be singing a different tune. Only played with 1 other person so we were able to get around the course pretty quickly as it was not backed up at all. Will certainly be back.
Good value and great pace of play
Course was in good shape considering it is still winter. Just took a shot on a nice winter day to sneak out for a round. Good value and clubhouse very friendly compared to last time here. Greens rolled quick but most were in great condition, a few on the back were on the mend. Waited on first tee box but worked out within just a few holes and didnt wait after that at all. Overall good time.
nice course
nice course some of the greens on the back nine are in bad shape.but over all good place to play.
Nice layout
The service from the pro shop was top notch. The variety of holes keeps you engaged from hole 1 to 18. Looking forward to the ground breaking for the new clubhouse to be built.
The course was fun to play.
For this time of year, the course, overall, was in good shape. The greens were fast, and though they needed some work due to the time of year, the ball still rolled pretty true.
Will give it another go
I played Emerald Lake on a Friday morning in December. (Gotta love this Carolina weather) I had never played Emerald Lake before but had heard great things from a variety of sources. The course itself is in decent shape, considering it is the second week of December. The fairways are, for the most part, discolored. Our group lost at least four balls in the fairway/rough, simply because the white balls blended into the grass. I imagine the course is incredible to play in the spring and summer, when green can be used to describe more than just the emerald lake. Only thing I did not care for was the fact that, at 900am, the driving range was not open. If this could be rectified, I would have given Emerald Lake four stars.
Neat Challenging course
something for everyone, and the course is relativly leaf free, which is a work at this time of year, all in all a great day
Nnice diversity
Good course, tight course. Well kept. Greens were in excellent condition. Lots of leaves!
This is a very nice course. The greens are fast and somewhat tricky. Straight putts are rare. Fairways are in great shape.
I always enjoy playing at Emerald Lake. The greens are always fast and in great shape. The pin placement is usually what makes it tough. There are few straight putts. There are several challenging but rewarding drives over water on the par 5's. Some short par 4's help keep the scoring down.
Challenging course in great condition
Great course, very nice condition. Staff were very friendly and overall good value for money.
Course has maintenance issues
Emerald Lake was once a course that prided itself in good conditions. I was shocked to see patches of crabgrass in the greens. Very disappointing.
I would not recommend playing there until the weed problem in the greens is addressed.
Not the time to play this course.
I should have known from the reduced rate what I had gotten myself into. Holes 1 and 2 were complete unplayable from all the mud and construction going on. With standing water and/or mud on the cart path, fairway, bunkers, and even Tee boxes and greens of most every other hole. Pretty sure my new shoes were ruined in the process, so that added to the frustration. I wish I could say it had just rained, but it had been no less than 24 hours since the last rainfall. I got a good value at one $18, but in hindsight, I wish I had kept my $18. Don't get me wrong the course seems like it would be nice if it weren't 80% mud.. and to leave on a positive note, I like that you use about every club in the bag here, too often at courses do I find myself going driver, eight iron, putter on every par four this course calls for some variety in the club selection both on the tee and in the approach.
COURSE HAS REALLY COME AROUND.
Greens have improved 90% in the lat 3 months. Firm and fast. Only one green had a very small issue. A lot of work in the process around the course. New bunker improvements and white sand.Clearing for the new clubhouse. I would recommend this course when it dries out. But very easy to play when it is wet renough for cat path only as it was when we played.
