Emerald Lake Golf Club
About
Emerald Lake Golf Club is one of the Charlotte area's most popular public courses. True to its name, water is a prominent feature on the golf course. It's not just the water hazards that make this a tough course though. You'll be faced with strategically placed bunkers, sloped greens, and fairways tightly lined with trees. The golf course starts out gentle enough but by the time you get to the third hole, you'll be tested with a hole that plays right into the prevailing wind. This long narrow par 4 is one of the toughest holes Emerald Lake Golf Club has to offer. You'll get a brief break with the fourth hole, but the following par 5 is the signature hole. This risk-reward hole could result in a birdie if you play it smart, but if you go for the green in two and don't make it, you might be punished with a bogey

My father came along for the ride , not a golfer but was very impressed with the beauty of this course Photo submitted by Jamie5277593 on 05/02/2013
Solid Course
Love this layout and the new clubhouse is excellent. Staff is very friendly. Course conditions other than being wet due to Hurricane Michael were very good. Challenging layout especially from the tips. Only complaint was pace of play. 2nd nine was extremely slow due to a fivesome that was initially allowed then broken up but pace never recovered.
beautiful course
rained and we got through 5.. Were given a 9 hole raincheck. Will definitely go back.
Very good!
Course condition is perfect.
But I complain only one thing!!
Power Cart is so poor.
I hope they gonna change to new EV next season.
Fun Track if you have a lot of time
Always liked the layout of this course. Greens have had a lot of play and as a result, many did not roll true. Ball marks not being repaired or repaired poorly the problem. Pace of play was not good. Two foursomes in front of us who were within the same group, on the tee box at the same time. Although, they went off separately, there was an entire hole open in front of this group so there really wasn't any reason for both groups to be on the same tee box at the same time. A marshal could have moved this group along but we did not see one on the course the entire 5 hour round. I give this round a 3 star review because of the pace of play and the condition of the greens.
Great course
Tee boxes could use some work. Fairways and rough were in great condition. Greens were good but had some bald spots. Some from people not fixing pitch marks and some from just burn out. Overall experience was great, they do a great job!!
Nice day and Course is fun to play
Only thing group was discussing post rd was conditions of greens. Many reviews state the same thing....ball marks unfixed and many unrepaired marks. Otherwise greens were speedy compared to other area courses and layout is challenging
Staff very friendly and Pro is great resource to talk with on all things golf.
Practice facility and new clubhouse is awesome
Will be back in near term as it’s worth it .
Emerald Lake
Course is in great shape and the driving range is great as well. Unfortunately, the pace of play is just terrible. We were waiting on each tee box for a minimum of 10 minutes on each hole. It took 2 of us 5 hours to complete 1 round.
Also, there is a crazy guy in a house by the green on Hole #10 who will cuss you out for getting near his yard.
Greens need worj
The course was great, a fun layout and somewhat challenging, not the longest of courses but narrow enough and some strategic bunkers to make you work. However the greens need serious work. Looks like nobody has repaired their divots for the last month out there and made it really hard to putt when you never know if it’s gonna roll true to line or not. They would also benefit greatly from a ranger or 2, pace of play was great until about 13 and then from the tee box of a par 3 I could see 2 groups on my whole and 3 on the next whole.... was a slow finish especially for a midweek round.
Still was a fun round however.
Great layout, greens need just tad more TLC to be perfect
The layout of this course is just fun. Great water holes. Some difficult holes, and some easy. It has balance. That being said, the front obviously gets more play than the back. The greens are pockmarked from people not fixing ball marks...to the point you cant roll a putt from any direction without fixing five or six unless you like watching your putts bounce. Great speed, though. You can tell the staff is trying there. Some tee boxes have valleys in the middle so it is tough to find a level stance at times. Some bunkers are hardpan, and even have vegetation growing in them (luckily, only had to hit out of one fairway bunker). I played in the morning, paid a little more, and pace was a full 4 hours. Afternoon deals can be very cheap, and this course is 100% worthy of those deals.
Greens need work
I love the course but the greens, all of them, are pock marked. All have dozens of what appears to be ball marks that aren’t healing. Makes for a very bumpy putting surface.
Definitely worth playing
First time playing here. Got some great course knowledge from the starter. The fairways were in great shape. The putting greens were fast and true, with challenging pin placements and contours. It was a fun course to play.
Great Course
Great course in awesome shape. Bent grass greens are still very nice considering all the very hot weather.
Good Time
Always enjoyed playing Emerald Lakes. Greens were pretty beat up for a lot of play and I'm sure the weather. It was hot, mid 90's with a heat index above 100. Fairways and tee boxes not hit all that hard by the weather and were in good shape. Rough had been cut from the previous time I played there when they were more US Open like. Had a tournament that was in the process of wrapping up which slowed play on the front nine quite a bit, but overall an enjoyable round.
Needs work
I play emerald lake a few times a month and lately it has gone more downhill everytime I play. Pace of play is abismal and they FINALLY hired a Marshall, but he was useless. The golfers who play this course don’t fix any ball marks, nor do they even care about those behind or in front of them. Normal round is 4.5-6 hours depending on time of day. Water coolers are usually full of ice, but little water, so bring 6 bottles with you. Worth $20, but the pace of play has caused friends of mine and myself, to end the round early. It’s ok until you get to 13, then it backs up like 485 during rush hour with golfers hitting 2-4 balls every shot. So plan for a long day with lots of waiting, and while your waiting, maybe the Marshall will tell you to speed up.
