A Tale of 2 Courses
Monroe CC is two different designs. The front nine is a Donald Ross design and plays shorter than the back. The turtleback greens are deadly, especially when the greenskeeper seemingly has a bad day and places the pins close to the edges. The placements today seemed to be deliberately impossible, where slight misses roll completely off the green and down the hill, especially on greens that slope front to back then drop off. The back nine is a more traditional layout and has normal greens. 18 is a long par 5 that average golfers are lucky to reach in 3. The fairways were dormant today but the greens were in excellent condition despite the front nine's placements. I do enjoy the course, but would play more often if the pin placements on the front nine could be more reasonably placed.
Great course for the money
Staff is always great, course is very well maintained and it’s great place to play.
Average golfer
Pace of play was four hours not stop at turn for food or drinks. Conditions were terrible even for fall lost two balls if fairway, rough was soggy with balls plugging and no rain for days but the worse part is the leaves are everywhere and no work crews trying to pick them up. Lost another five balls to leaves. Not a course to play in fall a cheaper and better option is Edgewater in Lancaster,Sc
Decent course
Decent course with a good layout. Didn’t like that the range was across the highway. We also didn’t like that the greens were ridiculously fast and difficult. And didn’t like that the ladies tee boxes were uneven lies. I would go again, though, if it were about 39 min away—it was 52 min away.
Great course with a great staff
Great course. Front 9 and back 9 offer two different styles of play. great staff. great value for the money. PSA: the greens are faster than you think. Have fun!
Good time!!
Front 9 D. Ross layout is tricky around greens. You have to miss in the right spots. It's not a long course but greens are quick on dormant bermuda. Had a great time and greens were smooth and fast. Course was in great shape. I would definitely play again...
🤕 Ouch!
Tight fairways thick rough and lightning fast greens, this one will humble you😬⛳🏌️
Course condition
The golf course was very busy with play ,but was in excellant condition. Being a former superintendent,I mentioned this to the other guys I got paired up with. The greens were superb and just the right speed for public golf. Not to slow and not to fast . I will definatley play this course again even with a 45 minute drive to get there.
Always a good time
Course is usually in great shape, greens rolled true and a little fast, love it!
Great Course...huge!!!!
Really enjoyed playing this corse. Fairways are wide but very challenging. Pace of play was great. Lots of fun. Would definitely return.
Great spot not too far from Uptown.
Great course, fun greens. Pin positions were definitely challenging on some holes which made it a blast.
Monroe Golf
Pace of play was slow 2:45 to play 9 holes. The staff was friendly and gave us rain check for 9 holes at later date. Thank you MCC staff!
