River Ridge Golf Club is one of the finest public golf courses in Raleigh. The course sprawls across 100 acres in the heart of the Triangle, it's an easy 15-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. The lush green of the course contrasts beautifully with the Carolina blue skies. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are a few lakes that come into play. The rolling terrain provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The course's signature hole is the par-4 fifth, a 375-yard hole that can be conquered with smart play. Try to keep your long iron or fairway wood to the right of the fairway, which will give you a short iron approach into the green.

Tough greens!

Course is in great shape. Greens were great, but I found them extremely difficult to read and putt on. Lots of undulations, large greens, being unfamiliar with where to putt the ball - all made for a lot of 3 putts and worse. But that’s on me, and not the course. Get out and play this course - each hole is different, and you will hit most of the clubs in your bag.

Great course, ridiculously slow

This was our first time playing and we absolutely loved the course. Great layout, great shape, all around beautiful course and I'd love to go back, except ... When we checked in, we were told there were 200 players on the course, but everything would be fine if everyone kept up with group ahead. That's not possible when you're sending foursomes out at 8-minute intervals. At several holes there were three groups at the tee box - and no one seemed to be playing particularly slowly. Five and half hours later, we were teeing off on 18. It would have been later but at least six people ahead of us gave up and left.

Surprised joy.

The course although not a championship course was quite enjoyable. I am a golf course snob and the conditions were not tour quality but very enjoyable to play. I didn’t complain about the green or fairway during the round. I used GolfNow and was paired with 3 other singles and they were great to play with. I would play here again. Free range balls, cart included for a very reasonable price. The hotdog with chili was only $1.65. Holy cow that is cheap. My only complaint is that the course could use a little bug scaping. The greens were running only a 9 but for the money I will take it. If I had paid double I would be more critical. Play here!!!

Great Condition

River ridge is always in a good shape.

This time (9/10/2108) was no different.

Almost no dead spot on tee box, fairways, and greens.

A little complain: Greens were great but they were not fast enough for 5 star course. (they were fast but we wanted faster )

In great shape

Course has really perked up through the summer after the frost kill in spring. Great shape and greens are perfect a few weeks after sand topping. Short but tests all of your game...especially putting.

First North Carolina round

Well, I certainly picked a great track to be my first round. Being new to the area, I was told that there was a weird winter and weirder spring. The course was in decent shape but not great. I loved the layout.

Slioowwww

I’ve always enjoyed playing at River Ridge in the past but today was a disaster. The group in fronted us was extremely slow and didn’t offer to allow us to play through. There was no attempt on the part of the course staff to keep things moving. It was painful.

Aerated Greens PLEASE READ

Only writing this review as it seems the course did not report that it was aerating greens to GolfNow. Punched on 7-10-2018, would wait another week or so before booking.

Very disappointed in River Ridge

I booked this course online with Golf Now and they did not choose to tell Golf Now that they were going to punch the greens. Not only that, but they closed the back nine and made everyone play the front nine twice. It took me 50 minutes to drive to this course, but definitely wouldn’t have bothered if they would have been honest about the course conditions. Unfortunately you can’t get your money back from the course if you book with Golf Now, so I had to choose to play in terrible conditions or forgot the money I paid, talk about being out between a rock and a hard place.

And because they had every group playing just 9 holes, the pace of play was horrible. We jad holes where we waited forever to tee off, then waited some more to hit our approach shots.

Terrible experience that could have been avoided if the course had just been honest about the aeration work they were doing.

if it weren't for the greens being verticut I would have given 5 stars on course. green are still in great shape. cant wait to play again after the maintenance heals. a necessary evil in order to have nice greens. also if you don't like fast greens this may not be the course for you. pace was a little slow but not painful.

Challenging but Fun

I visit the Raleigh area a few times a year and try to find different courses to play. River Ridge is one I will play again. I liked the variety offered by the design of the course. There are some forced carry holes, some blind tee shots, and some uphill and downhill holes. Per reviews I read before selecting this course, the greens are fast (but fair) and can ruin a hole or a whole round if you aren’t alert. I thought the course was fun and a good value.

Inconsistent Green Speed

Great layout in very good condition. The speed of the greens was very inconsisitent.....some slow, some fast and it wasn't because of grain but all rolling true. Could definitely use more sand in the sand traps.

Regardless, always a good course to play in the Raleigh area.
