River Ridge Golf Club
About
River Ridge Golf Club is one of the finest public golf courses in Raleigh. The course sprawls across 100 acres in the heart of the Triangle, it's an easy 15-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. The lush green of the course contrasts beautifully with the Carolina blue skies. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are a few lakes that come into play. The rolling terrain provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The course's signature hole is the par-4 fifth, a 375-yard hole that can be conquered with smart play. Try to keep your long iron or fairway wood to the right of the fairway, which will give you a short iron approach into the green.

Fun Layout
Course was in excellent condition. Greens a little slow but rolling true. Great value using Hot Deal. Good variety of holes.....left/right, long/short.
Slioowwww
I’ve always enjoyed playing at River Ridge in the past but today was a disaster. The group in fronted us was extremely slow and didn’t offer to allow us to play through. There was no attempt on the part of the course staff to keep things moving. It was painful.
Aerated Greens PLEASE READ
Only writing this review as it seems the course did not report that it was aerating greens to GolfNow. Punched on 7-10-2018, would wait another week or so before booking.
Very disappointed in River Ridge
I booked this course online with Golf Now and they did not choose to tell Golf Now that they were going to punch the greens. Not only that, but they closed the back nine and made everyone play the front nine twice. It took me 50 minutes to drive to this course, but definitely wouldn’t have bothered if they would have been honest about the course conditions. Unfortunately you can’t get your money back from the course if you book with Golf Now, so I had to choose to play in terrible conditions or forgot the money I paid, talk about being out between a rock and a hard place.
And because they had every group playing just 9 holes, the pace of play was horrible. We jad holes where we waited forever to tee off, then waited some more to hit our approach shots.
Terrible experience that could have been avoided if the course had just been honest about the aeration work they were doing.
if it weren't for the greens being verticut I would have given 5 stars on course. green are still in great shape. cant wait to play again after the maintenance heals. a necessary evil in order to have nice greens. also if you don't like fast greens this may not be the course for you. pace was a little slow but not painful.
Challenging but Fun
I visit the Raleigh area a few times a year and try to find different courses to play. River Ridge is one I will play again. I liked the variety offered by the design of the course. There are some forced carry holes, some blind tee shots, and some uphill and downhill holes. Per reviews I read before selecting this course, the greens are fast (but fair) and can ruin a hole or a whole round if you aren’t alert. I thought the course was fun and a good value.
Inconsistent Green Speed
Great layout in very good condition. The speed of the greens was very inconsisitent.....some slow, some fast and it wasn't because of grain but all rolling true. Could definitely use more sand in the sand traps.
Regardless, always a good course to play in the Raleigh area.
Great views.
Fantastic condition, beautiful scenery, true running greens. Lots of evelation to deal with. Thankful i was pair up with two members that knew the course.
Definitely wish to play it again
Slow pace of play
what was a 4.5 hour course to play took 5 hours 15 minutes because of the group ahead of us looking for missed shots/balls n the weeds, woods and water...took their sweet time when on the green
Solid course
Course was in great condition. Fairways were lush and greens were quick and smooth. Very good and challenging golf course. Greens are difficult to say the least. A very good test of golf. Wish it was a bit closer to Durham but worth the drive.
Great Greens
This course in general is well maintained. There are very few ground under repair areas to be found . There was one hole where maintenance was underway through a section of the fairway . The greens in particular are excellent making the only challenge in putting your ability to make it . This course is not overly demanding allowing for scoring based on your play . One of my favorite Raleigh area courses .
Good course with good conditions
Our group plays River Ridge frequently and has for several years. Very reasonably priced and the conditions are normally very good. Nice staff and during the week the pace of play is typically quick. I often recommend River Ridge to out of towners.
great condition
great course layout, in amazing shape, greens were in top notch shape, fast and lots of small undulations.. groups were stacked up even at 815, starter blamed a computer problem. teed off 15 minutes late, thinking we were in for a long round, but somehow, we played in 4 hours flat.. had rangers around moving pace of play.. overall good day, a bit pricey for $60, but good day..
Excellent Greens
River Ridge is in overall very good condition from tee to green. Greens had been lightly top dressed but were still rolling true and with speed. Could use more sand in some of the sand traps, but otherwise a great layout and a great play using GN.
Great course for the money
I've played RR a number of times and for a public course, it is in great shape and the greens were fast and challenging. Only one hole was in bad shape and that's because of it's low lying area. New golf carts with 2 USB ports - how nice! with coolers, too. I thought the round would be long because of the back up on the first tee, but we moved along with no waiting. I still prefer a 4 hour round - this was closer to 5.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review! We hope to see you again for another round soon.
