Used to be a good price, but now.....
We used to play for $12.00 on golf now. Not sure why the price doubled? Play is still slow as heck and the course is in the same condition as before. I liked playing there but for the price there are better options. I'm not saying $240.00 is expensive, but is was a good deal at $12.00 . For a few dollars more you can play at Eagle Ridge, The Neuse or even River Ridge. For $20.oo you can play at Campbell which is a very nice course as well.
Affordable, Friendly But ROUGH
We took a chance on Wendell CC based on the reviews.. We came with low expectations... And I guess in a way the good news is that our expectations were met.
First the positives :
Super friendly staff - A+
Newish bermuda Greens are fast and roll true - A+
Pace was great for a Saturday, very little waiting - A-
Now the Bad:
Conditions are pretty bad... It's clear the club has suffered from long term funding issues... Very poor turf coverage and the horrific winter rain has clearly made things worse.
Poanna appears to be the primary grass... Again, without sufficient funding it's impossible lto keep Poanna at bay.
65% of Tee Boxes were mostly Poanna
35% of Tee boxes were mostly dirt
New Bermuda Champion greens roll true, are fairly fast (a good thing) but sadly just one year after the installation of the new bermuda Greens, poa is invading badly... A few of the greens already covered in the 40% range with poa... The majority had poa invasion in the 20% range. I hope the ownership can find ways to avoid a complete poa takeover of the very nice bermuda Greens.

The course is in good shape, considering all the rain this past winter. The greens are very good. The only thing is a slow pace of play by groups of foursomes and fivesomes.

Great Value
Course was excellent for the money. Got pretty busy around the 1pm deal but other than that and excellent hidden gem.

Pace of play was the only negative I have about this course.

Fun course.
Find myself going back over and over. Good price, great course. Cheapest fee with champion Bermuda around. Greens have matured fast. Rolling great and true. Fairways have really come around in the last 3 years. Only negative on this course is length and cartpath. Minor, dont let this stop you from at least trying it out..
Great Course... no doubts
Greens were in good condition. Nice day, dry course south it rained the night before. Had fun.
Excellent Greens
New Bermuda greens are excellent!!!!!! The fairways are full and there is real rough! Best condition I've seen WCC in the past 10 years.....check it out

Great Practice ROund
The course is undergoing repairs - understandably. Fairways were good - temporary greens. Still a great practice round - no rush. Nice people.

Relaxing round
There was no pressure from behind, and the 2-some in front moved nicely,. once I got close on the back nine. Course had 4 temp greens, and looking to aeorate the entire 18 in the next week. Golf car paths in need of repair.Finished in under 3 hrs. Some holes I played golf, some I played advance the ball Will be back in a month.

Greens under repair
I play this course fairly regularly, and it s good course for the cost. My complaint today is that it would have been nice to know when signing up that the greens are under repair. Nothing like paying full price for half the golf. If I would have known, I would have picked another course to play. But in general the course is ok.
Temporary greens and poor remaining greens / played 5/31/2018
Most greens are gone and several temporary greens in play . Low cost green fees but not a good experience when putting is taken out of the game . Fairways about a 3 on a top scale of 5. Unfortunately not worth playing as is , perhaps, in the fall greens will improve .
I'll Come back later in the year
Spring golf in the Carolinas is bad just about everywhere. Grass is beat up from months of play and its not warm enough for them grow back. When it's warmer I'll be back to see if the grass grew in.
Course is an old school design with lots of parallel fairways and some are quite narrow. It is a short course with no real room for lengthening.
When (and if) the grass grows in I'll come back for a second try at it.
Nearly every green on this course is unplayable as of May 20, 2018. Be warned!
