Great New Look

Was really impressed by all the great work they have done around the golf course. They have redone both fairways and greens. Also have redone all the bunkers beautiful look. Golf course is in great condition now and will just get better as it grows in the next few years. They are redoing club house and dining to. Should be a first rate stay and play.

Great as always!

Third time playing course this year. Greens are in great shape, as are fairways, bunkers and tee boxes. Back nine continues to challenge and keep you on your toes.

Another Great Round!!

I love what they are doing with this course, the gem of WNC. Staff, especially Tammy, is fantastic! Very, very accommodating to golfers with children. I took three of my sons; ages 12, 10 and 7, they all walked and had a great time. Kudos to Lex and the entire staff!

Very excited about the future of this course. Great improvements over the winter and more to come. I played with two of my sons, ages 12 and 7 and we all had a great time. Definitely will play again this spring!

This course will be back

unfortunately the greens were lost this year. However, I have played this course when the bent greens are rolling around 10-11 and true. They layout and views are great and there are good scores out there if you are patient and don't make too many mistakes off the tee. Classic mountain layout and beautiful views. looking forward to checking out again next year when the greens are healed up.

Pace of play was ridiculously SLOW

Groups were quitting and leaving the course due to at least one foursome who were apparently playing some sort of gambling game... There are no rangers on the course to enforce pace of play. My foursome quit on the 15th hole after playing for 4 1/2 hours!

Don't pay more than $30

This is a classic old school country club layout that has fallen on harder times, at least financially, and has opened to the public, and it shows in the conditions of the course. From a layout perspective, this is a great golf course, with a lot of character and interesting holes. But the conditions of this course have really suffered as there are patches of grass both in the fairway and in the rough, meaning that you are 50/50 at getting a good lie.

Pace of play was not an issue for me because it was a little wet, and we had misting rain on and off throughout my round, playing solo.

The bottom line for me is that I would not pay more than $30 to play here, no matter when you come to play, as it's a struggle dealing with patches of grass, even on the collars around the greens. Some of it makes it very unfair as you'll never know how your ball will come out of a lie when making contact. Still, if I got a really good deal I would return here and play it again, for sure.

Great value at the cost of slow play

The course is in decent condition for the average hot deal rate of $25. The course design is quite unique with quite a high variance in wide-to-narrow holes accompanied by an equally high variance in elevation throughout the course. The design seems to be based around the principle that if you teeing off from an elevated position the whole will whole will be downhill and vice-versa for if the tee is down hill. The only time the course design doesnt follow this rule is on holes 9 and 18 where the fairways play downhill to an elevated green. The 2 main cons of this course are the pace of play and the infamous hole that was named "the spasm" by the course. After playing the course about 7 or so times I can say from my experience that the majority of the time (especially around the hot deal time which is usually at noon on week day) the pace of play is incredible slow. Out of the 7 times I think there was only one time that I played at an average pace where I wasnt waiting on the group in front of me. The reasoning behind why I am declaring "The Spasm" (hole #13) as a con due to the fact that the hole was obviously designed to fit into the course LAYOUT rather than to fit the course DESIGN. This hole will leave even the skilled player feeling unsatisfied and even feel defeated after walking off this whole. I am a fan of difficult holes but this hole surpasses the classification of difficult and in my opinion is more in the realm of nonsensical design used in attempt to fit the real estate of the course rather than the design. At the end of the day the course is definitely worth the $25 hot deal rate (especially if you can catch a 10 am hot deal). The location is a little off the beaten path for most but because of that the surrounding scenery is beautiful and peaceful! The location also helps in fending off bad weather as it is literally located in a bowl-like "valley" surrounded in 360 degrees by mountains.

Springdale, what have they done to you?

I've been playing Springdale since 1992 and it has always been one of my favorite places to play. She was truly the gem of Haywood County based on excellent playing conditions and afternoon specials ($22.50 Springdale Special after 2:30). I have lots of fond memories from here and know the course intimately...

Today was my birthday and I decided to visit my old friend Springdale for the first time since last year. She was in great shape last year but when I drove by the front nine today, I noticed a lot of brown in the fairways and I got a bad vibe from what I saw.

My fears were realized as I started play. Every fairway had dead spots, thin lies, and the ground was hard and dry. I know we're in a drought but there is an irrigation system in place and the ponds were full! (The plus side to hard fairways is roll. My 3-hybrid went 285 yards!)

The greens proved to be just as bad with dead spots (no grass) everywhere. I had to take relief a few times cause I'm not putting on dirt! The greens were very soft due to over watering and extremely slow.

Several tee boxes had little grass and were hard to get a tee in the ground.

I don't know what the owners are thinking but they are destroying an amazing course. If it means firing the Superintendent then by all means please do it and find someone to rescue the course before it's too late! I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I don't think I'll ever go back there... If I want to play a "dog track" I'll go to Asheville Muni!

I DON'T RECOMMEND PLAYING SPRINGDALE AT ALL!!! So sad...

PS: Tried to upload photos for proof but app won't let me...

Springdale

Beautiful course, a bit out of the way but worth it. Told under new management, with a little work, could be a gem. Nice layout, beautiful scenery, and fun to play. Pace of play on the back nine was slow but ok. Will play again when in the area.

Weedkiller works

Played at 11:00 on a mon as a single. The 2 foursomes and one twosome insisted I play thru. Once I passes them, there was no one ahead of me. Round took 2.5 hrs.

Tees and greens need some work and fairways have lots of crabgrass areas. Greens ran slow, but no suprises.

The course layout is challenging, even if you hit a straight ball. Especially on the back 9 when there are a lot of elevation changes.

There is a driving range, but no food or snackbar.

Very slow play!

No rangers on the course to keep up pace of play. Took almost 5 hours and we skipped the last two holes! Weeds all over the fairways, ball mark damage all over the greens. Sad, but this could be a nice course.

Course layout is nice, especially the back nine.

Greens were slow, and the course had a lot of water grass

We overheard a person who I assume was the course superintendent say to a group of members,” give me a chance and I’ll get it where you want, so I assume he was new.

For the price, very fair!
