The Neuse Golf Club

Course rangers kept play moving no waiting and checked constantly to ensure the flow of play was smooth. Fairways were cut greens played fast. Course layout was challenging and pin placement ensured the course played long. Snack bar had a wide variety of sandwiches made to order and the lady making them was fun to talk to plus she made a great turkey and cheese Club. Very pleased with the entire experience.

I’ve been wanting to play this course for months but never could find the time to drive up from Fayetteville. Finally got the opportunity and it was worth the wait. Greens were fast, fairways pristine and course layout amazing. Lots of hills( not a walker friendly course). Challenging for the average golfer. Some hole you could go for it off the drive others your taking an iron off the tee box just to setup for the second shot. Used every club in the bag which was nice. Snack bar made an amazing turkey sandwich and the pro shop staff was friendly. Northerner friendly not so much southerner but still polite. I will be returning as soon as I can.

Always a great course. Well maintained and a little challenging

Course conditions were great. Greens were in nice shape. Bunkers could use a sand overhaul. However, there’s too much walking required from cart path to tee boxes and greens. Also, the walks are never level. Always have to take a route up and down hills and through valleys.

Course in really good shape and greens were nice. Several bunkers could use a sand overhaul. My only issue is the long distance from cart path to tee boxes and greens. Not to mention every walk to said tee boxes and greens is up and down hills and valleys.

Very accommodating to their membership, but not so friendly to guests. Snack bar had ice water available at the turn for members, and made it clear it was only for members. Had separate restrooms available for members and inferior toilets for female guests.

Pace of play was terrible. Singles and doubles were common, all being blocked by foursomes. There were no marshals to assure the play was decent.

Course is a beautiful place and is obviously well taken care of. The greens were fast and true. The layout was very good but may be challenging for beginners. I would definitely come back if I’m in the area.

Course was in great shape and provided challenging shots for all degrees of your game. Greens rolled great and if you played good shots into the holes, they would reward you with an excellent chance at birdie. Must play course. We look forward to our next opportunity.

First time playing this course and I can honestly say the course is amazing. It’s open enough you can really grip it and let them fly on most holes. Playing from the blues was challenging but rewarding. The fairways were in good condition and the greens were immaculate. For the price I could not be more pleased.

However, due to there not being a designated starter at hole 1 as soon as my twosome teed off and touched the green the foursome of what I can only assume were members began hitting. Less than 4 minutes after we teed off. We played the front nine quick and stopped for a quick bathroom break and drink at the turn. As we were getting ready to go to hole ten the foursome sped around us and teed off without saying a word. The pace of play of the back nine suffered due to this rudeness and inconsideration. It took entirely too long to play 18 holes, almost 4.5 hours.

Played in steady rain on Sat 8/24. Very good layout in very good condition. Despite the rain the course was playable.

Finished 15th hole and a staffer approached and rudely told us we had to leave. We asked why and he said they closed the course at 5 pm (current time 6:20) and no one realized we were still on course. Needless to say we were flabbergasted. We asked if since they were taking us of the course and not giving us a change to finish our round and match could we get a hole rain check. He stated he would give a 3 hole rain check.... What?

In 42 years of playing golf I have never been pulled off a golf course when there Was still light to finish. My regular playing partner is a former Class A who stated plenty to times he WANTED to close the course with one group out there but never ever actually did it.

I really like playing this course be and will probably go back but this experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I try to play the Neuse as much as I'm able even though it's a good 40 minutes from my house in Wake Forest because it's almost always in great shape. Yesterday was no different. The only complaint I had is that the bunkers were a little firm in places in part because of the rain, and I'm not sure if they were able to get the machine out to fluff them up, or they were still wet when they did. The greens were very good (I would guess about 10.5 or so) and the fairways and rough were lush. The tees need some work in a few places. They could stand to move the tees around a bit more on a few holes because there is great grass that is not used, and there are a couple of holes (especially #7) where you're on the side of a hill teeing off on a par 3. Otherwise, it was enjoyable, and the pace of play was good.

A great place to play. Course is in great shape. Everyone should play this course.

The Neuse is a fun course, but has a few challenging holes that become difficult if shots are not placed well. Overall, the variety of fairways and greens make it an enjoyable track!

The fairway/rough delineation made for an attractive optic from the tee box. The greens were smooth and quick. Overall a fun and challenging day.

I get out about once every month or two on the Neuse and it is always a great place to play. The course was in great shape and the greens were really nice, firm and rolling well. Highly recommend but be patient on the weekend as play may be a bit slow.

I enjoyed:

1) Course Layout

2) Greens were rolling well

3) Staff really made every effort to help

I did not enjoy:

1) Overbooking my tee-time and coincidentally four members had the same time?

2) Lack of enforcement—-the course knowingly allowed a group of four to play with two sets of clubs. We were notified that there were supposed to be two people playing and two people “watching.” Again the “members” are in charge and the course though it would be suitable to charge the other two rounds of golf to the member. At least that is what they told our group.

3) Clear overuse of tee boxes—-the signature hole had half of the white tee box as sand from the divots.

In short, I am happy I finally played the course but I really do not see a strong need to go back.
