The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Always a pleasure. Course has been taken care of.
I have played the Neuse many times, but it had been a year or so since my last time. It is the end of the winter, but I was very happy with the course conditions. The fairways were just starting to green up, and even though it rained the day before, the course was basically dry. Fairways, rough, and greens were all in very good shape. Greens were medium to fast, but I expect they would be a little faster in spring. I saw them adding new sand to one bunker, even though there is good sand in the bunkers already, so I'm not sure if that was just a little maintenance.
I've always enjoyed the layout of the course with a great variety of holes, most of them challenging, but the long 18th is a bit too long for the average player. The 14th is one of the prettiest holes in the area. They also have one of the, if not the, best putting greens in Raleigh with both flat and breaking areas and holes well spread out across a large green. I was a bit surprised that the range was mats only yesterday, though. Even though it rained the previous day, the turf felt dry, and they have plenty of open area to work with. Balls were relatively new, and carts are brand new electrics, but governors are a bit harsh. Good grill (no bar, but good beer selection) and small, but decent, clubhouse.
Given that I paid only $20 to play during the week in the middle of the day, I think it's fair to say that it is one of the best deals in the Raleigh area if you're willing to drive a little bit. Looking forward to my next round here. I wish it was a little closer to my house!
Beautiful Rolling Course
The course was in excellent shape for this time of year. The greens were immaculate. Great staff. I highly recommend.
Always great
Love this course-always in great shape and a challenge!
I like it
Alway a great time at the neuse ...
Greens are firm and in great shape the layout is challenging from any tee box . Fairways can be wet in spots and tee boxes should and will get more attention when the season ramps up . But for now it’s a great value . Great staff and pro very personable .
Great layout
I love this course challenging but fair............Great layout as well. One of the better courses in the triangle.
The Neuse - Great course, great value
Very challenging golf course, you'll use every club in your bag. New mini Verde Bermuda greens, are fantastic. Putts run true. To score well, you must employ smart game management, if you do you'll be rewarded.
Note, holes 2 and 3 are near the river and putts have a pronounced break towards the river when your putt starts to loose pace.
greens are in excellent shape for being middle of winter!!! Staff very friendly and carts were in great shape. Best course in the county and blows the other 27 hole one around the corner away!!!!! Only complaint is that wish they would have opened a few of the fairway to carts. Always a first look when playing in that area!!
Excellent Greens
Neuse continues to be one of the best courses in the RTP area. New Bermuda greens are in excellent condition....not too fast, very true. Dormant Bermuda rough is long and dense. Great, challenging par 4's on the back 9.
Must play!
Weather was great, the course was in excellent condition, what more can you ask ? Fun course, lots of risk/reward shots. You'll use every club in your bag and face every lie imaginable. This is a gem!
Nice layout
We had a good time except that the pace of play was very slow and no Marshall insight. Just finished before darkness.
Great Challege.
New greens rolling expectionally well. Great hole designs, several unique. Residential routing, but elevation changes and consistent conditioning make it worth the cart ride amongst the houses. Nice staff... efficient even on busy weekends.
Insanely slow play
The last 6 times I’ve played the neuse I’ve actually finished one round. There are large groups and pace of play is beyond slow as other reviews have mentioned. Today I drove to the first tee and saw 3 foursomes waiting to tee off and literally left without playing a hole. Be forewarned, if you book on golf now you will not get a rain check.
SLOWWWW
Play here all the time not normally this bad, but this day it was an excruciating 5.5 hour round. My playing partner bailed on me leaving me as a single. They paired me up with another threesome who were slow beyond belief. Don't mind being paired up but a ranger out there would have helped. If they would have allowed me to keep my own cart I would have left this group in the dust after the second hole, but they had me join their 3rds cart, so I was stuck with them.
Maybe because it was observed Veterans Day......I have never seen foursomes play so slow....usually the pace of play is great but Friday was a mess...I literally left the course after 9 holes and I never leave a course until Friday....
Jewel of Raleigh
What a great find! This course has exceptional imagination, not for the weak of heart. Not real long, but the layout carves up and down through the community. I've played quite a few courses in the area, but I'd rank this up at the top.
One caution, stay out of the rough. It is exceptionally deep (might do well to trim it down a little) as I lost 2 balls that must have sunk so deep me and my partner could not find.
Good Course
New greens, good overall condition, and excellent pace of play. I enjoyed my round there.
Hidden Gem
While this course is a bit out of the way from the Raleigh area, it is worth the drive. Course is in fantastic shape. Extremely reasonably priced for the beautiful course that it is. Several very challenging and unique holes.
