The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Maybe because it was observed Veterans Day......I have never seen foursomes play so slow....usually the pace of play is great but Friday was a mess...I literally left the course after 9 holes and I never leave a course until Friday....
Jewel of Raleigh
What a great find! This course has exceptional imagination, not for the weak of heart. Not real long, but the layout carves up and down through the community. I've played quite a few courses in the area, but I'd rank this up at the top.
One caution, stay out of the rough. It is exceptionally deep (might do well to trim it down a little) as I lost 2 balls that must have sunk so deep me and my partner could not find.
Good Course
New greens, good overall condition, and excellent pace of play. I enjoyed my round there.
Hidden Gem
While this course is a bit out of the way from the Raleigh area, it is worth the drive. Course is in fantastic shape. Extremely reasonably priced for the beautiful course that it is. Several very challenging and unique holes.
Still excellent
Excellent greens
Excellent food
The rough is no joke and a few bunkers are dusty aka: not up to par but everything else including the staff is awesome. The greens are perfect and once the rough is trimmed and the traps raked- she will be perfect.
Amazing course and a challange
Wow . This course is amazing for the money and there was no waiting . The only thing that i did not like . If you did not make the fairway . You lost your ball . The ruff needs to be a little lower . Ball sinks in and unless you are standing on top of it . Good luck finding it ! Other then that it is a beautiful course . 7th time i played it . Lot of bunkers and some amazing views too.
Red is the New Black
Reversing the colors on the scorecard is a great first step to get people to play forward tee's. Only problem is those beautiful metal tee plaques, on each hole, that still list Black for the back tee's.
Now, let's get serious on playing it forward. Your course needs to build two more tee boxes for ladies, super seniors & kids, if you truly want to grow the game. Since your course is hilly and fairways are lush you get very little roll out with tee shots. I played with my friend who is seventy four and he played from the up tees and he still was hitting 3 Metal on most of his second shots into par 4's. Think 200 yds. to 275 yds for most par 4's. Even senior players should have the opportunity to hit some 7irons to 9 irons into some par 4's. That means having tee boxes 50 to 100 yard further up the fairways on #1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16, 18. And, on par 5's like 4, 8, 10 & 17 you might want to move them even more than 100yds because of the difficulty of the hole. Driver, 3 metal, 3 metal and 7 iron to just get on the green is not having fun. And, I'm talking about a player that hits the ball straight but only carries his driver 150 to 175 yds on the level. We need par 5's to be 375 to 400 max on your hilly course. Come on' this isn't difficult to make some extra tees, which can also be used by youngsters and beginners, no matter what age. Oh, and did I mention that this will also speed up play and just maybe bring some golfers back sooner because they had some fun !
Diamond in the rough
I paid $12 to play here which simply cannot be beat. I thought perhaps the greens or fairways were under repair but they were perfect. The new greens and work they have done is excellent. The fairways are lush and the rough was as penalizing as you want with the club championship played the week before we played. Monty and the staff are excellent and the food very good.
Greens are great
I played here for the first time in August the same week the new greens had opened, so I didn’t enjoy the putting too much. The rest of the course was fantastic. When we played this weekend, the greens were in great shape, just as the course was. This course can play long when into the wind like most of the holes were for us, enough one tee set forward felt incredibly long!
I think this is a great course and it’s one I’ll definitely be playing again and again. The only downside was the group in front of us playing incredibly slowly and not allowing us to play through, but we made the most of it since the group behind was slow as well. If you haven’t played here, give it a shot!
Great course!
The new bermuda greens are fantastic! I'm surprised how receptive they are considering the fact that they are so new. They were a little fuzzy and slow the day we played, but they still rolled true and approach shots held just fine. But it's to be expected that the new greens were fuzzy so they can establish themselves well before they make them fast.
I'll definitely be playing this course again!
Course was in great shape. Greens were in great shape. I was praticeing for a golf tournament in October. Men in pro shop were very helpful. Had lunch in the grill, great food and great service. A real classy golf course and worth the money
New greens came in perfect.
They just finished putting in new greens and they are in excellent shape. Overall course conditions were in great shape. The only negative I have is that the first cut of rough is too high and the ball sits down in it making it hard to find your ball and difficult to get a club on it. Overall the Neuse golf course is one of the better courses in the Heart of North Carolina.
New Greens = Lots Of Potential
First time I've played here in a while and was excited to see the new greens. They aren't as hard (not difficulty) as I expected, so you don't have to worry too much about shots hitting and releasing way more than you're used to. Still a little slower than I'd prefer and grainy, but look for that to improve by next year. Course is in good shape. If you've never played here, you need to be on your game. Some really good golf holes out here. If you have the time to trek from Raleigh, definitely give a go. A solid track that, now with the Mini Verde greens, has a chance to be an exceptional course if they can speed them up a bit and verticut them as well to take out some of the grain.
This course has bounced back from the new greens!!!! Best course in the county. Very friendly staff and great amenities. Totally blows away that Mom and Pop course by the "River" around the corner. Very easy to get to and worth the drive. If you are looking to play and have some challenges in your game this is the place!!!
What a difference...
Played last August on the temp greens with 6" holes (said airfication on Golfnow), ok but just wasn't the course the designer designed. Glad I came back. New greens are FANTASTIC! Way firm, givem a year and they'll be perfect. Now, if it's not a Top 10 course in the state it should be. The club house/dining leaves a little wanting but everything else about what a Golf Club should be The Neuse has!!
New greens were great!!!
Great lay out ,great conditions, pace was perfect. One of my favorites in the Raleigh area.
New greens not ready as advertised
Arrived 45 minutes early to find the range was closed and 1/4 inch of sand on the practice green. The course advertised the greens were ready 9/1, but all were still heavily sanded. Pace of play was terrible due to a seniors group of 5 foursomes ahead of me. The course layout is always fun and the fairways are in great shape. I highly recommend this course just ask questions as to green conditions and unadvetised tournaments as they will not tell you about them until you check in.
Beautiful Course
Excellent conditions. Greens were the best I've seen in ages. Great layout. Rough, fairways, greens were all close to perfection.
New Greens
The new mini verde championship greens rolled great and complimented the great layout. Definitely a recommend. At the top of the list in the area.
Great course
New greens are going to be amazing. Course is wonderful and in good shape. Great value for the money. Rough is really difficult to play out of but otherwise very fair. Staff wasn't very nice but oh well I came for the golf.
