About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Didn’t get to go play.
Had a tee time for 8:20. Showed up ten minutes early. They told me I would being playing with three randoms. They had already teed off. When I got to where they were they had already picked up a 4th. They couldn’t find anyone else to put me with. Instead of letting me play solo they instead just gave me my money back or said I could play at 1:00 p.m. Just really frustrating that they wouldn’t just allow me to play or try to work me in since I already had a booked tee time. A waste of my time and money. I won’t be returning.

Good and bad
Overall, it is a great course, but the greens were still under maintenance. We putted on plastic blue flakes. My whole group couldn’t get a read on any of the putts that resulted in multiple double/triple bogeys. A simple left to right upon a two foot putt resulted in a nine foot downhill many times. The governing speed on the golf carts based upon the position of the GPS, needs to be turned off. If a golfer yelled “Fore” and I couldn’t get out of the way, there’s no saying. The GPS system on the carts are cryptic basic algebra to find the distance. A^2 + B^2= C^2. A is the distance to the hole. C is 48 yards and B is 208 yards upon the GPS meter in the woods. How far do you have to the green before you three putt?

Beautiful golf course.
Absolutely beautiful. Greens and fairways were perfect. Fast greens and very receptive to approach shots. My only issue was my bad knee which needs replacing was tough getting to the greens and tee boxes which had high rolling hills. Not the course’s fault lol. Loved it here.

Pace of play here is terrible
I enjoy this course, as I have played here over 10 times, but I honestly don't remember the last time I was able to play without skipping several holes. I've had to skip, on average, 4-6 holes each time and it's just not worth it anymore. I've never seen a ranger on the course making sure people keep pace of play. Maybe I'll go back if they get it under control.

Goofy back nine

South Dakota meets North Carolina
First and foremost this course is very well kept and is incredibly challenging. Golfing this course made me think and take shots I wouldn’t normally take. The greens had just been sanded but I know that’s a necessary thing to do to keep them in the condition they need to be in for golfers to enjoy them. I was welcomed in by Jason, a course member, to golf with him. He was a great guy, definitely a help on the course but also shows outsiders what kind of course this is by members being friendly to non-members. The fairways were like hitting off a hitting mat, they were incredible. For the money I paid this was a great course. I’d golf it again, and will if I’m ever in the area again. I’d even pay double to golf it again. Great course!

Review of The Neuse Golf Club
I really like the Neuse. I played this course yesterday (Tuesday afternoon) in just a little over three hours – there was almost no one out there. The fairways are very nice – the ball sits up nice and high - and the Bermuda greens were rolling true. I don’t know about weekends, but my weekday experiences have all been very good.
