About
Lockwood Folly Country Club is a superbly conditioned, semi-private, member owned "hidden gem". The course is located at the confluence of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Lockwood Folly River, providing golfers with breathtaking vistas of tidal estuary, moss covered hard- woods and the solitude of nature. Tree lined, nonparallel fairways winding through hardwoods and pine afford a sense of seclusion while challanged with championship golf.

Best course near HB
Played here several times. Great service and great conditions.
First TIme Playing the course
The course was a very nice layout. Difficulty was very challenging. The course was still moving from winter to full spring conditions. Would definitely come back to play it again
Nice layout, needs updates
Im hoping the greens get the attention they needs this season. This course has a nice layout, but shows its age. Greens need tlc, cart paths are chewed up and many roots. Tee boxes ok, fairways will grow and fill in. Many large, mature, beautiful oak trees and other nature to enjoy.
Had a great and was paired with two great guys. I really enjoyed the green speed. Quick, but fair.
Winter golf post snowstorm
Played on Friday, February 6th, the course had just opened back up from winter weather (snow). Staff were super friendly! In my opinion, the course was in really good shape for thawing out after a storm. The were a few damp spots on the course (no muddy spots within the course of play), but there were no cart restrictions. I really enjoyed my round and will definitely be back.
Coastal Classic
I have had the privilege of playing this track at least ten times over the years that we have escaped to Holden Beach for our annual summer reset, and it remains a "Ship in a bottle" classic.
The staff is always friendly and helpful, the course is forevermore a classic layout, and always in great shape. She is challenging but not punishing, alwqys teasing you to take that chance..to cut the corner. Perhaps today is the day I can make it home in two on Number 10 (you can't). This course never disappoints. And the tale of "Lockwood's Folly" is a classic juxtaposition of ambition versus reality, much like the game itself.
Nice course
We were greeted by the cart attendants. They were very nice and informative. They took the time to explain specific holes and challenges. The starter was just as friendly. As for the course, the greens seemed to be very slow, but there was a lot of rain leading up to the day of golf. The fairways and greens were in really good shape. Would definitely play this course again.

Great Carolina coast course
Greens, tee boxes, and fairways in excellent condition.
Rough and bunkers made things a bit challenging but tons of fun to play. Definitely coming back
First time
Was really looking forward to a great experience. The pro shop employee was rude as well as the starter.
We had a slow pace of play which was ok, however the group behind us hit into my group several times.
Come to find out it was the starter and his group.
We were on vacation plus looking at a lot for sale.
Unfortunately this rubbed me the wrong way. Will not be back .
Long time favorite
We’ve been coming to Holden Beach and playing Lockwood for more than 30 years. I have many fond memories of playing with my family, past and present. Lockwood is one of my favorite courses anywhere.
Lockwood Folly
Third time playing this course. Staff was great. Very good course layout. Greens need work, very patchy. Unfortunately there was no beverage cart. This is a big miss, on a links course.
Nice Generic Course
Overall, the course wasn’t terrible. The tee boxes were a little overrun by what looked like weeds, but was kept trim. The fairways were in great shape and even the rough was taken care of. The greens were decent but a lot were being repaired and fixed so they had some rough spots, especially around the fringes. Looking at pictures online, we chose this course expecting more scenery on and around the holes, especially being by the water. Unfortunately, only a couple holes gave you a decent view of the inland waterway. I enjoyed playing the course; but I did expect a little more for the average cost of a round. That being said, I am still really green with playing higher end courses, so my expectations may have been over the top.
