Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation
About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Why is this course even open??
I have no idea why this course is open for play. 2 foot tall weeds in the fairway. Crabgrass everywhere....... including the greens. The 9th hole is an abomination! The entire landing area off the tee is dirt! Yes, I said dirt. Greens are very bumpy. Save your money and play somewhere else!!
Would come back
Folks there were great aside from a little rain I would definitely come back to play
Average for a beach course
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Course could use some care, not what you would expect for a high end club. Greens were dried out in places, but some of the rough was soft and muddy. Course layout posed a challenge for a older player, such as myself. I would play again.
Goat track
First time I have played panthers run in 10 plus years and it was in horrible shape. I can’t say I have ever played a course in this condition. The back nine was better than the first. Greens were not terrible. Tee boxes and fairways were horrible. Bunkers were overgrown with grass and moss. I don’t think it would take much money to turn it around but it is a long way from being enjoyable at any price. We paid $54 and there were lots of other options in that price range with better conditions.
If I owned one of the beautiful homes on this course.....OUCH
I should have taken pictures. This was quite possibly the worst conditioned golf course I have every played. This course and its sister courses used to be excellent. What happened? Weeds everywhere. #9 fairway completely dead in landing area and tall weeds growing up where fairway grass should have been. Bunkers, growing up in weeds. Tee boxes, so tall like hitting out of rough. This course has some beautiful homes on it. If I owned one...geez...I would be pi$$ed.
I played this today in 4th day of Myrtle Beach World Amateur. We should have NEVER played here.
Someone said....I think the Big Cats Complex just died of the last of its 9 lives.
I should have taken pictures.
Wish I had read this prior to playing there Sunday. This place used to be pretty nice. Maybe the worst condition I have ever played on. I did post a review with a pic. Homeowners must be sick.
Play the Back 9 twice
It is an absolute shame of what has happened to the front 9 holes at Panthers Run. It appears as if management completely abandoned or totally forgot the front 9 even exists.. I have never played a golf course with such a severe difference in conditions.from front to back. If you do play Panthers Run, wait until you see the 9th hole. Unbelievable they even have it open. I can't say anything negative about the back 9, it was in fabulous condition compared to the front. I wonder if Ocean Ridge is going to develops the back 9.
Panthers Run
The course especially holes 1-9 were terrible. No excuses, cart paths had pot holes and in need of replacement. The fairways had weeds and many fire ant mounds in the fairway. Traps had no sand and grass growing. Checked in at the clubhouse and waitress said we don’t have a chef so no breakfast.
Just Disappointed all around!
I live 1 mile from Ocean Ridge courses and it will be a long time before I return.
Panthers run
Course in very poor shape. Worst I have seen in Myrtle beach. Play elsewhere!!!!!
Fair for the money
This is one of 4 Big Cat courses. Although Tiger's Eye was a much better course Panther's Run was enjoyable and worth the money
Exact same experience- it almost feels like they’re letting this course go to seed. Nicest feature is the beautiful homes around it. We paid 20 per in the afternoon and not even sure that was worth it
Yep, remember that hole well. So so sad. From what I hear the rest of the Ocean Ridge courses are in similar condition.
