About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Course Conditions not good
There was no one playing when we got there, which is a good thing as we had the course to ourselves most of the time. The course was very wet, but it had recently rained. The Tee boxes were not in good shape at all with sod just planted and a lot of weeds. The Fairways were very wet and didn't drain well at all. The green were not cut and a lot of weeds were growing.
Island West is probably in the worst condition of any course in the area.
Island West is probably in the worst condition of any course in the area. Good layout but it looks like they just mow with junk equipment if at all. I understand that they are trying to make it better but it’s a log way off.
Greens need TLC
The course overall is in decent shape. Except the greens. They're a bit ragged. They are slower than usual and recently aerated and have lots of sand. Very firm but still somehow slow and not true roll. The tee boxes and fringes also need some love. But for $50ish it's still a decent deal and the people are great.
Not worth it!
I’ve played this course one other time. Maybe I enjoyed it the first time because they just mowed, but the conditions were horrible today. Tee boxes looks like the rough, drainage was awful, greens honestly were comparable to the fairways on some holes. Do not recommend unless the management decides to put more emphasis on course conditions. This course was genuinely a 2 Star golf course.
If you’re going to pay $50-60 for 18 at Island West, highly recommend taking your money and paying an extra $20 at a nicer course.
Island West Golf Club!
Well kept course with ongoing improvements to the tees and greens. I'm telling you that this track's layout is phenomenal... So give it a try!
Horrible conditions
Worst $50 I’ve ever spent. If anyone sees me on this course again, revoke my debit card. Fairways were good, greens were atrocious, rough was subpar. Not an enjoyable golf course.
Poor
Greens had not been mowed in at least a week. Tee boxes were not mowed . All around one of the worst rounds of golf I’ve ever played in the area !! The guy in the club house could not have been any less considerate . My last time to play there !!!

Overall good experience the fairway were in good shape
Mostly grass some holes not as much. greens were okay
Some had poana grass. But pace of play was good .
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Course was generally in good condition. Fairways were good, greens still recovering from winter cold. Some greens very good while others somewhat rough.
Best Staff Around
This course recently turned into my primary course to play even though it’s not the closest one to me just by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff alone, not to mention how great the course is can’t recommend this course enough!
Needs LOTS TLC
Fairways good. Bunkers good, the rest not good looked liked nobody has done anything to the course in a long time.
Course needs a lot of TLC
Course was very untidy, lots of large bald patches on greens, ,ugly tee boxes, looks like nobody had put any water on the course in ages, Nice layout, and good fairways.
Couse Conditions
The course was very dry. Many areas had little grass, including the tee boxes. The greens were decent.
