Timberlake Country Club
About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

4th hole par three. Pond in front and lake to right and back Photo submitted by u631580812 on 07/01/2019
Timberlake 1st time
Played the course for the first time. Staff extremely friendly. Interesting course layout with 3 par 3s on a 9 and three par 5s on other. Conditions are pretty good for winter golf. Greens roll smooth and fast. Played with two locals, Mike and Corky; wonderful company. I live in Durham and will come back to play next time I am down to Wilmington and back.
Very wet
Course is nice but the course was very wet. Don't hit the ball fat! Will play again. Hopefully, a little dryer conditions.
Could be great.... COULD be
Spend most of my time looking for my ball, even with the best of my shots, because the course was covered with leaves. I would have expected that the staff would have made mor of an effort to clear the fairways and greens but I only saw the leaf blower on one hole and appeared only one other hole had been blown. Looked as if the course had not been cleared in several days. I seriously spent more time looking for my ball on the fairways than I did playing. The leaves, combined with "cart path only" made for a looooong day. If I wasn't searching for my ball, I was backtracking to get my cart that was aways off the fairway. If the course was clear and the old holes on the green had been appropriately fixed, I would have loved it. But under the conditions on this day, it took the fun out of taking my son on a father and son trip to peak his interest in playing more. I'll play here again one day, but not in the fall.
Bring your long irons
Golf now deal for $18. The course is in great shape for fall wet weather. One of the best courses around with excellent views of the lake. We also saw 8 deer on the 16th hole...overall a great round of golf.
Timberlake GC
This course is a gem on the banks of lake murray.Nice open fairways a few dog legs ..greens in good condition...this course will test your golf skills....with some amazing holes with water features...and stay off cart path a bit on the bumpy side .Overall very enjoyable ..will be back
Beautiful fall outing
What a great day of golf! The course offers beautiful views of Lake Murray. The course was in great shape although a little soggy due to rain yesterday. Overall, a terrific S.C. Fall experience!
Great course
Great course. Greens and fairways were in great condition. Would recommend this course to all.
It's been about a year since I last played there. I had a great time then and another great time this time around. I enjoy playing this course even though challenging for me. I always find it in great shape and always will take friends to play here when they come to visit.
Inproving
I have played Timberlake many times and today’s round was my best ever. They are working to soften some greens which today were better after they punched and sanded greens for the second time this summer. Only complaints today were greens were still bumpy which will improve soon and the sand traps had not been raked today . It’s a good course with some great views of Lake Murray. Very good course for the price.
Course
People were friendly and the staff provide professional service.
Great course - slow play
Course in outstanding condition. However play is very slow. No one lets faster players play through.
Good course, but pro and managers are horrible
Played today, course semi crowded. A 5-some was holding up our group of three, another 3-some, and a twosome. We asked a course worker if they could go ask them if could play through, the fivesome said no its a holiday they can wait. At the turn we asked the pro and the managing partner if they could go talk to them. They refused and said it was a non issue. Each golfcart has a sign reminding groups to let faster groups play through so the course must know some golf etiquette, to bad they wont enforce it. Wont be back here.
Impressed
For the price I got on this course it was nothing short of amazing. Fairways were great, course was well maintained, greens were true <running maybe a speed 7-8> but a little furry. Cant blame the keeper on that one, it's really hot and they are more than likely trying to protect them. Great course, great value, friendly staff. Final score 79.
I don't know if it was the same group, but I was held up by a fivesome as well where they were trying to teach and young boy and a female, neither of whom appeared to be able to hit the ball 100 yards with any club. The lack of courtesy should be an embarrassment because everyone I encountered was friendly and welcoming, including staff and the member I played my first nine holes with. Course was in really good shape, although the greens could have been faster (not that they were bad, but I'm used to Bermuda having more pace than these). Unfortunately, this is the kind of attitude you sometimes find with a club that has members who look down on the fact the course has to have some public play to survive.
I'm looking forward to playing here again, but I fully understand your feelings.
