Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Good Round

Course is in good shape. Only golf course on Lake Murray. Good mix of holes . My senior group always enjoys it. Only complaint I have is that several greens are hard and do not hold very well. I am an advanced player and had 4 birdies today and some greens held well yet others ran out 30 to 40 feet. I always enjoy this course and the views of the lake are a huge plus.

Beautiful!!

We were passing through and picked this course through Golf Now. The views of the lake were stunning. The course was in good shape and we especially loved hole #4! Putting was my weakness since the greens were faster than I am used to. Go out and enjoys this course!

Good summer shape

Timberlake is in good shape. Played at 12:30 and saw no other players on the course. Fairways are in great shape. They cut their greens very short and fast. Many greens are hard and difficult to hold. We saw very few if any ball marks on greens. Played there many times and it’s in good summertime shape. Looked like the greens needed more water.

Good shape

Greens and fairways are in good shape. One of the better courses we play in the Columbia area. Great value for the price.

Always fun

Timberlake is a very good course with a varied and interesting layout. Most courses in SC including Timberlake are lagging about a month behind in fairway and green grasses due to an early warm spell followed by freezing temps. The cold snap stunted the new grass . As it warms Timberlake will greatly improved as will other SC courses. I might be more enthused than usual as I had 4 birdies and shot a 75. I am usually in the 80’s . The bumpy greens didn’t affect me.

Could be Better

Cart paths need help. With better upkeep this course would be great. Maybe mow the grass and water. Landscape features would help. How about a chipping green to replace the one sold to developers. Overall a good layout though.

Good challenge but fair.

Greens were fast and the fairways well kept. The course layout next to the lake made for a wonderful backdrop. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Worth a visit.

I think the course is not being maintained as it should. The tee boxes are bad, the traps were horrible with very little sand and washed out., no excuse even with the amount of rain.

Winter conditions prevailed

Considering the time of year the round was acceptable. However, the greens were hard, dry and running. The pace was inconsistent - we had foursomes & fivesomes pressing us.

Good course, decent shape, no restaurant available

The course has a good layout and some holes with very good views, it is challenging for the average golfer, The fairways and greens are in decent shape but do need a bit more tending and need to be watered more often. The cart paths are in deplorable shape. There is no restaurant or snack bar available on Sundays.

Beautiful course

I really like this course. It challenges you which I like. The fairway was great but in the fall hard to find your balls because of the leaves

Golf on the Lake

Course was in good shape for the fall. Still some green around, but the sand traps were a bit hard (packed). We had a great time.

Fast Greens

Played this course many times. It’s in good shape and a joy to play there. Greens for me are very fast so tough to putt. Some greens are hard and tough to hold but it’s a great course. The only golf course on Lake Murray.
