Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

pleasantly surprised...

Hadn't played out there in a few years. Was very pleasantly surprised by new clubhouse and facilities. Course looked better than ever and was worth the drive.

Beautiful Course in excellent condition.

Timberlake is a beautiful course in excellent condition. The only negative is the cart paths need some work (bumpy).

Best Course in the Midlands for the Money

Despite poor conditions (right after a thunder storm), this course impressed. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and courteous. The course winds through a couple neighborhoods and has four holes on Lake Murray. The fairways are tight on some holes and the rough is thick and challenging. For a course open to the public, it features the upkeep of a more exclusive club.

Some greens were a big banged up, however in comparison to other great deals in the area, this is a gem of a course.

The par 3s feature enough water to play mind games with you but are nice pars if you get on the greens. The greens are not too fast or too slow.

The course is well maintained.

I will be back soon.

Course was in good shape

The course was in extremely good shape for the hot weather and lack of rain we've had in the area.
The greens were very fast. Great day of golf.

Good value

Enjoyed my round on this nice layout. Some beautiful holes along the lake and a good mixture of easy and hard holes. Staff was friendly and pace of play was great. Condition was average but if it was up a notch I would put this course as one of the best in the Columbia area.

Good Value

Course can be a challenge. Greens can be fast and rough can be very difficult. Layout is beautiful and I really enjoy the views of the lake. A good bit of elevation change. Played the course 3 times in the last month with completely different conditions each time, but course always holds up. Clubhouse and staff are extremely nice. Course condition is pretty good despite the recent lack of rain. Would recommend this course to anyone in Columbia area looking for an interesting round.

Ok

Staff is very friendly. Course is a little tight and rough. Just feels small. Greens were very hard but lack of rain explains a bit. Good value for the money. Overall it was ok.

Great Views on the Lake

I really like this course. Played there 3 times in the last month in varying conditions and the course held up in all of them. Fairways and greens in excellent shape and staff friendliness exceeds my expectations. The new clubhouse is pretty chill as well. When I played on Saturday morning I (and subsequent members of my party) were greeted at our vehicle with a cart. Members and staff seem very knowledgable and friendly. This course can be difficult with many scoring opportunities as well. I think the way they have the ninth green now as a slight dogleg right is an improvement over when the club opened. Really excellent layout with every hole having something memorable to it. Greens can be fast later in the day and the rough can be wicked in the morning. One of the best courses in the midlands in my opinion.

Worth the money, not the drive

Great, challenging layout with some awesome views of the lake but the groundskeeper seems to be a bit asleep at the wheel. You could see where the grass on the greens was burned/damaged from their mowers. Rough was patchy (at best). Cart paths were ROUGH. The staff in the pro shop were super friendly and very helpful. It was a great course for $20 (cart included) but not worth the drive from NE Cooumbia. If I was up on the lake already I wouldn't have an issue playing it more often, but I don't think I'll be making that drive otherwise.

Playing Timberlake

This is the first time in ten years that I have been back to Timberlake. I have a group (14)of golfers that travel around SC to play different courses. This course is in our back yard but we have not played it due to the value. It is appropriately priced when you can get it for around $35.00.- $40.00. Don't think about a cooler in your cart even when it was 99 degrees like it was when we were playing. They are more concerned about selling concessions! The greens were very nice! The second cut was tall for an average golfer but if you kept the ball in play you were fine. Beautiful layout!

Not impressed..

This was my first time playing Timberlake. When we arrive at what we thought was the clubhouse, it wasn't obvious where we should go to check in. After walking around the building, we finally found the Pro shop or check in area.
The staff was less than friendly, the golf carts need to be replaced and the course was pretty wet.
So overall I don't plan to play there again any time soon.
