Timberlake Country Club
About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

4th hole par three. Pond in front and lake to right and back Photo submitted by u631580812 on 07/01/2019
Great Course on Beautiful Lake Murray
I've played this course 2 times and it's a very nice course that is challenging but not over the top hard. The greens are on the faster side but overall it's a fun course to play on. Stay hydrated as July temps are around 100 degrees.
Beautiful lake views & breeze
It's worth the ride to play an excellent layout, well maintained, uncrowded, good practice facility course in a friendly community setting
Very Scenic
Course in very good shape. Staff was very accomodating
Great Course
Beautiful course. First time playing here and it was great shape. Nice little practice area. Greens are CRAZY FAST. Only way to get the ball to stick to the green is to fly it high into the green. Anything else will basically run right through. Other than scoring bad because of never playing greens this fast the course is great. Some great views of the lake as well. I will be back
Timberlake May 2016
Great staff, great course, great conditions made for a great golfing day. Timberlake as the best views in the area as well. You can't go wrong with this course. The layout is really great, challenging and attractive to the eye. The course was in great shape and the staff is very friendly and helpful. A bargain at twice the price. Make the drive and have a great golf experience.
Good test for your game
One of the best courses in the Columbia, SC area, staff members are great,
good practice area.
20 years playing this course
Timberlake has always been a favorite in the area.
It's early spring so I don't expect fairways to be plush quite yet. This was true today.
Greens fast and in good shape.
A few bunkers under repair and cart paths are rapidly yielding to tree roots.
Expected the faiways to be blown free of tree branches etc...... debris all over.
I like this course but in need of some serious TLC.
Hidden gem
Great track with some terrific scenery! Highly recommend the short drive from Columbia or Greenville
Course needs some work
I know the weather has been pretty wet recently with all the rain but I wanted to give other potential golfers a fair reviews. I love this course layout and usually very good conditions but this course needs some TLC and work to be done. First off, the course is extremely wet. If the course has sprinkler timers, turn them off until the course dries out. The sand traps need a lot of work. More sand will help and the erosion issues need to be addressed. This is a sore sight and the course deserves better than that. They are unplayable the way they are now. Since this course has lots of trees, please send the maintence crew out with huge leaf blowers and get rid of the leaves on the tees, fairways, bunkers, and greens. They have lots of woods that these can be blown into. I realize this course doesn't have a lot of resources but don't cut costs on maintanence. That is the fastest way to lose business. The greens were great. They didn't overseed them which is great. Not the prettiest but they roll fast and true. I hope the staff of this course gets this message as this track deserves the care it needs to be as special as it can be!
Great course and pleasant surroundings
Well maintained. A few interesting water hazards and nice lakeside fairways. Greens are well manicured. Course is well laid out and poses a fun challenge but s not excessively difficult for infrequent golfers. Play it, you'll have a good time.
great track- even after a Hurricaine and flooding
perfect spot right by the lake and the lay out of never boring..
Nice change of pace from your gripit and ripit Midlands courses
Greens were in great shape. They are rock hard though. Difficult to stop the ball near the pitch mark. One green had a little bit of a sandy spot that had not filled in. Use of water and fairway layout places a premium on distance control or shot shape off the tee. Other courses in the area allow for driver off almost all par 4's and 5's. I think I used driver 4 times in this round.
Good Shape
Had a 9:20 T time on a Sunday. Arrived early and got paired up with a Member and his Father. Staff was excellent. Course in Very Good Shape.
Lounge/Snack Bar was Closed for a Outing so I can only review the food from the Pro Shop (Hot Dogs/Chips/Pimento Sandwiches). I passed on the offerings.
Worth The Drive
We did not realize the course was 1 1/2 hour drive from our home. we arrived 15 minutes late, but they were very nice and let us go to the tee box. Greens rolled true and the views are beautiful. Pace of play was just ok and got backed up on the back 9. If they had a marshall we would of been able to play through a very slow foursome. Some spotty weeds in the fairway and some tee boxes need a little tlc. If they addressed those issues this could be one of my favorite Columbia area courses.
Fun layout
Stay in the fairway. The area beyond the rough is tall grass and you may never find you ball. Other than that, these are the best greens in the Columbia area.
Timberlake
The course was in good shape, the weather was good just a little warm for SC. Some holes have graet views of the lake.
Definitely worth playing again
First time at Timberlake and it was excellent. The fairways and greens are in tip top shape, even with the hot Columbia summer temps. Eight deer came out to greet us on #15. Nice to have a gallery that doesn't chatter in your backswing... ;-) A little course knowledge will help my scoring next time. Challenging but not obnoxious. Worth the drive, for sure!
Great shape!!
Course is in outstanding condition. It's easily top 10 around, if not top 5. Highly recommend, especially as a hot deal!!
You will enjoy you golf day
My first time at Timberlake. The staff was friendly and informative. The course was in excellent condition and the greens putted true, no bumps or bare spots. All the players on the course we're VERY courteous.
I am going to play again, great value for the money
.
Fun Course, not overly long or Difficult
This course is really a bargain on golf now, I played for $20. Worth it. Great greens and fairways, breeze coming off of lake Murray offset the 95 degree heat, played by myself and finished in 2 hours 18 minutes. Not a difficult course and not long at all. A lot of fun.
