Timberlake Country Club
About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

4th hole par three. Pond in front and lake to right and back Photo submitted by u631580812 on 07/01/2019
Well maintained
Greens had just been sanded, but was aware before play.
Pro shop gave reduced rate to compensate for the greens.
Looking forward to the greens getting smooth again because rest of course is in good shape.
Greens are sanded
When I played the front nine greens had been punched and sanded. The back nine was closed to do the same so I had to play the front nine twice. Fairways were good. I would hold off playing for a couple of weeks until their greens come back.
Great course
Great course... Will definitely play again! The greens were excellent! Overall a great value!
sunny tuesday
Timber Lake has a nice combination or easy to very difficult holes. The course was in very good condition except for a few greens that were bare in some places. I would recommend this course
By the Lake
Good course, very playable for a duffer like me. I you hit a bad shot, it will cost you - unforgiving in that regards. Best condition I have seen the course in years. Traps could use a little work. Looking forward to the next Golfnow deal
Fun course but needs work
I always enjoy playing here. Challenging holes, scenic views, but the course needs some TLC. The greens are not good (brown spots, fungus) and the cart paths are a mess due to water damage and tree roots. There has been an "attempt" to do some repairs, but compared to other local courses, it lags behind. If the course director would improve the greens and condition of the cart paths, it would be a top rated course.
This course is nice, they are working to make this a good venue.
Enjoyed playing in the late afternoon with my son. Play was at a good pace even though we were following a group of high school players who we're practicing for a tournament. Course is in good shape, except for some of the greens which were sandy.
Under Construction
For less than $20 per person, I was not expecting a stellar round of golf. Furthermore, there was a small tournament in progress.
That being said, we were rushed off to the tee box a quarter of an hour befoe our tee time. Once there, the gentelman from the front desk quickly pulled up behind us to deliver the sanction that we could not play out of a single bag. It was a matter of the "perception of the course." (I'm an infrequent golfer, a student from out of state. It has never been a problem for me to share clubs on a casual round of golf because mine are nestled in the garage 700 miles from here.)
In his defense, the gentleman offered a banged up set of ladies' clubs to strap onto our cart rather than demanding that we leave. My embarrassment was inevitable. But after playing the course--with it's malodorous drainage areas, conspicuous constuction sites, ambiguously marked tee boxes, and "bathroom facilitiy" on the front nine (a port-o-potty)--my negative perception of the course outweighed my initial blush over being reprimanded for sharing clubs.
Played for the price
I truly love playing at Timberlake because it is right around the corner from home and work. It has great views of the lake and really good Par 3's. The last 2 times I have played out there. The golf pro or manager in the pro shop has had the personality of a brick wall. I don't think he likes when people use golf now to book tee times. When I recently played it was a last minute decision to play right after I got off work at 8am. I booked an 850 tee time and took my 4 y/o Son who loves to play. He asked if I booked with golf now (which I did) and he proceeded to charge me an additional $15 for my son to ride with me. Out of all the courses I've played I have never been charged a cart fee for my son. In saying that what age do you start to charge kids to play??? Overall I love the course just not happy with the management.
First Time Visitor
A challenging course for first time visitor. Prior course knowledge would be extremely helpful.
Very friendly staff; great price - Well worth the trip!
Good golf course
Like this course. A little demanding, a little forgiving. Fairways hit equals a good round. A good time.
Slippery Greens, but fair course
Course was a delight to see in good shape for this time of year. Greens were quick, but they rolled true and not crazy fast. Fairways had some grass growth and looked nice. They were easy to hit off of also. Bunkers were well maintained and raked. Only thing that was off was the practice facilities, which they are improving on this, so later this summer it shouldn't be a problem. Highly recommend playing this course.
Lake views, challenging, and well maintained. Hidden Gem of Columbia.
I've played this course over the last 6 years and it has definitely come of age and has evolved with new management. The conditions for early spring are great, fast greens, well cut fairways and overall well maintained. Decent play-time, as the two of us were able to get around in about less than 3.5 hours. Highly recommended.
The course is interesting to play. No.12 and 15 are plain tough
We had to stay on the cart path only all 18 holes due to time of year, but enjoyed the course. Restaurant facilities are minimal, but a hot dog or a cold sandwich is possible.
A very slow day
Went out to play 18 holes but due to extremely slow play I called it quits after 9. It took 2:45 to complete 9 holes and there was no way I would've gotten in all 18. The course was in fair shape. Grass is still dormant and they didn't overseed. Everything was brown including the greens. Putts rolled true though. There are several nice views of the lake so it's worth coming out to play for no other reason than that. Staff was very nice and accommodating. I'll play here again but it's not my first choice.
Best value in Columbia this time of year.
Course is in great shape. Greens are fast. Worth the drive.
This course has a great layout
Beautiful course that winds along Lake Murrray. Changing elevations, good conditions, and great price!
Tough greens and many interesting holes.
Very good course and well worth playing. Can play it back and get all the challenge you want. Certainly would play it again.
Timberlake in Oct
Price was great because of the Golf now discount. Course was beautiful, moderate to challenging, and overall forgiving. Par 3's were fun! Cart path was horrible! Pot holes, broken pavement, in desperate need of repair. Signage to hole #1 should be improved. Pro shop nothing to write home about.
Good course.
Good course. Out of the way but worth the trip. Not long, but plenty challenging. Good variety of holes. Greens were average, medium speed, smooth putting, held approaches well.
Great pace of play. Great value.
