Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Not bad

The greens had fungus attack in 2012 so they are in recovery now. I would say they should be pretty good in about 4 weeks. Overall it was fun to play it.

Get out there and play it!

One of the best value courses I've ever played. Beautiful course, great setting, good pace of play. The only drawback was greens were a tad slow, but this time of year it was nice to actually hit off grass as opposed to the hardpan everywhere else. Will definitely go back.

Boats, beer and golf..what a great Saturday

Course was in pretty good shape....waited over an hour to get a golf cart....no hot or cold food when we turned to the back...come on people!!!! Did love hearing the boats going across Murray while playing....overall nice just needs a little more planning by staff....good job to the two young men cleaning carts...they surely earned their pay

Nice course layout on a beautiful lake where each hole seems you are playing a different course and you will actually use all 14 clubs in your bag.

Course has a winding layout with house's, main road crossing's, and hole's that look and play as if you were playing several different course's. Few hole's with water that your "into" or tee shot needs to carry onto green because green only few feet from edge. Right and left dogleg's that club selection is vital, there are long straighter hole's with no trouble as well as a few with trouble...i.e..bunkers around avg. driving dist., large tree's with large spanning limbs that need to be avoided, and 1 hole with elevated green that has a winding creek that crosses hole 3 times, a reachable par 4, and the signature par 5 18th that can be reached with good drive if you have the guts to carry a cove app. 40-50yds from a long narrow green with water on right as well. New clubhouse and carts.-old clubhouse still there and although a few 100yds from end of the 18th hole away from new ammenities, it is somewhat of an eyesore along with the rocky path back to new clubhouse-I believe this is only temporary due to how the rest of the newer area look's-... Otherwise, Course look's to be well maintained-on a lake so a little soggy in spots. Nice challenge, but still fun. My handicap stated is for this particular course.

Beautiful track...

ball is either above or below you feet...greens are fast and in good shape...lots of water and other trouble if you don't keep in the fairway. Will play again soon.

Excellent layout in need of TLC

One of the best routings in the Columbia area, winds around beautiful Lake Murray with a combination of doglegs, short / long par 4s, and tough par 3s. The 2nd shot on 18 over the lake is breathtaking and an excellent risk / reward option for a par 5. Greens were in poor shape for my most recent rounds (September and February) and the fairways were somewhat spotty. Hopefully this course rebounds financially and can devote some more resources to its maintenance department as the potential is certainly there for Timberlake to be a standout.

TimberLake a true gem

Great layout and location set on beautiful Lake Murray. Truly an excellent golfing challenge. Always look forward to playing here and have never been disappointed. A real golfing test and experience. Head PGA Pro Doug Cameron is a first class pro and love prying golf stories and knowledge from him. You all really need to check out if you have not done so.
