The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Unfriendly staff
Booked 18 holes with cart on Golf Now app for a 2:10pm tee time (me & son). Arrived early (about 1:15) and with no line, asked to go ahead and start. The ranger was accommodating and let us start on back nine. After 3 holes, we ended up behind a foursome that you could tell was very new to the game. As we weren't in much of a hurry and just wanted to spend time together, we patiently waited at every hole for them to find their golfballs and goof off before we could play the next hole. By the time we made it to the turn, it had been 2.5 hours (and their was a line of about 3 groups at the next hole to start). As the sun starts to set about 5, we knew we wouldn't be able to play the next nine with the folks in front of us taking their time and only about an hour and a half left of daylight. We asked the older woman tending the proshop if we could have a raincheck for 9 holes because of the situation. She explained that the rate was a twilight rate and not for 18 holes. I explained to her and showed her that my Golf Now confirmation states 18 holes and does not mention a "twilight" rate. She said that that is a mistake but unfortunately she couldn't give me a rain check because it was a twilight rate to her. As a result, we paid for 18 hours, but because they over booked for certain times, we couldn't finish or get a rain check. The woman did have a snotty attitude and since I was with my son, it wasn't worth my time to argue or go over her head. Instead, I will not play there again or recommend anyone. There are two many good courses with nicer folks in the area such as Hejaz, Carolina Springs, Fox Run, Thornblade, Willow Creek, etc. Additionally, it appears the greens are not being kept up at this course as they were rough and the multiple filled in holes of the green interferes with your put from many angles.
Great course
Great condition.
Great layout.
Excellent Greens.
Some of the most challenging Par 3s you will every play.
I will be back in the spring and summer.
Best public course in Greenville
Public course with a private feel. Very challenging.
Great course
Good condition for December. Greens were fast and challenging
Starter was rude and unprofessional. Had a twosome pushing us behind another foursome all day
Otherwise the experience was great
Great round at a great price.
Had a great time at a r really challenging course.
Greenville's Top Public Golf Club
Just Fantastic Facility and the course is in great shape and will challenge the best golfer...
No Southern Hospitality Here.
Course was relatively empty when I arrived with NO tee times booked; however, I had to wait 50 minutes for my booked tee time. I was paired with a scratch golfer who was, ahhhhh not the friendliest of people, and another guy that was only playing 9 holes. The female Golf Pro Karen was less than pleasant and definitely NOT willing to let anyone tee off early even though the course was wide open. My first and my last time I'll play this course.
great value
Everything was exceptional! I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. The course was in great condition. The staff also were courteous and friendly. A-1!
Great Staff
Played as a Single on Veterans Day this year. Took 3.5 hours to play 18 holes because of some slow play in front of me.
Walked into the clubhouse, and they were waiting on me and asked me if I was the single playing, and had my information already good to go.
The starter, Frank, was helpful and friendly. Putting greeen was in excellent shape and rolled true to the greens on the course. Very, very fast greens.
Most hole locations were on crowns of the greens, so if you missed on the wrong side of the hole, your ball was likely going to end up on the apron of the green. Very tricky but SUPERB greens. Probably the best greens I've seen in Greenville this year.
The Par 3's (with the exception of #2) are fairly easy. #2 is over all water.
Par 5's are gettable out here too. You can hit them in regulation easily, but need to hit it in the fairway. The rough around the fairway is very very thick. I lost 2 balls on one hole because of this. (#17).
#17 is probably the most fun hole though. A blind tee shot, all downhill to th green. Hit a Draw on the tee and pray you can find your ball.
Overall a superb experience. I have always wanted to play at the Preserve and was happy to have had such a great experience.
Very Nice
Overall the course was awesome. The layout was great and very challenging. The only thing i could see them do better is a little more attention to detail on the conditions, which would move them to a upper level course. My golf now price seemed a little high for what i got, but really not a big complaint. I would recommend this course to anybody in the area or traveling thru as I was doing. Better bring your A game also.
Great course
My favorite course in the upstate including the private ones. Greens are great to putt and relatively fast. Lots of different shots. Shooting your handicap is quite an accomplishment
Best Public Course In Greenville
Verdae is one of my favorite courses in the area and without a doubt the best public course in Greenville. It is also one of the toughest and from the tips is a very challenging course.
Conditions are usually very good. The one thing I do not "like" is the local pine needle rule. You get a free drop off pine needles or wildlife feeding areas if your ball ends up in these areas. This to me is not golf and I appreciate what they are trying to do but this is not what golf is about.....
Again, this is a very difficult course so hackers please go somewhere else. Lots of interesting holes, a lot going on here, definitely a must play for serious golfers.
The one thing I would recommend to the course and something I think would be a fantastic idea - switch the 9s!!!! I think 18 is not a good finishing hole, 9 is better. Plus there are soooo many reasons. Switching the 9s would be brilliant!!!
Heck switch the 9s on the weekend and say its for the wildlife feeding areas.....
Really good test of golf. Hope corporate throws money at it and has a mini tour event or something at the course.....
Enjoyed the Course
We booked the tee times in advance and were worried about the weather. Luckily it rained earlier in the morning and scared away most of the crowds. We were able to tee off earlier than our scheduled times and thoroughly enjoyed our day out there. The course was in great shape given all of the rain we have had. Greens were fast and soft. Will play there again in the future. They have wild turkeys that wander the course which was a pleasant surprise.
not for the faint of heart
Excellent course! Very tough from the blues. Course is always in great shape!
A disappointment
I paid to play 18 hole with a group. When I arrived to the starter I was sent out a by myself. There was a group of three in front just teeing off & one that started just behind me. I had to wait on almost every shot. When I finished nine there was no starter to be found and neither of the threesomes offered to let me join them.
This is a semi-private club and the members seem to not want guest to play or share the course. I left the course after nine holes and went to another local course and enjoyed a fun round with a group of respectful golfers.
Decent Experience
Overall, I had a good experience at The Preserve. The course was in good shape, and it wasn't too crowded. I'm not that great of a player, so the narrow fairways (predominately) and sometimes tricky hole layout certainly made the course challenging.
The staff was helpful and friendly, especially the starter. My only complaint/problem were the greens keepers. They were all over holes 5 & 6, and I had to adjust quite a bit to avoid hitting them. There was 3 on the 5th green repairing a section, and they never moved during my approach or putting. Just fixing and talking. Not even an acknowledgement or apology for being there. I understand that they have work to do and need to do it while the course is being used, but they could be a little more aware of and attentive to the guests.
Still a good experience, and I'll likely be playing again.
This course is in super shape!
Had not played this course in about 10 years. Fairways and greens were outstanding. Would hope the daily fee would come down some.
Verdae
The staff is friendly, the course is in good to great shape. The greens are soft but roll true and fast. This is a challenging course but a fair challenge to your golf game with multiple tee options for length total of 7100 yards for the long hitters. Lots of placement shots but also some grip and rip options. My only complaint is the pace of play 20 min a hole = to a 6 hour round. Golf this slow is not fun nor enjoyable and this was during the week. Will not go back until pace of play picks up.
nice layout
Layout of course was good. Tee boxes had just been aerated and greens had long and ragged grasses - probably due to heat and thus not able to cut. Fairways and roughs were in good shape. Overall my wife and I enjoyed the round. Several tee boxes to select from for your length game. Several people were walking at prime morning times (it was hot and humid the day we played) and this tended to slow pace of play on this course, but not as bad as I have seen on other courses.
