Santee National Golf Club possesses all of the charms of the Carolina Lowcountry but it is also nicely contrasted with highland terrain. The course sprawls across rolling hills covered with moss-draped live oaks that demand accuracy. Both the scenery and the challenges continue with pristine white sand bunkers that stand out against the lush greens. There are also five sparkling lakes throughout that come into play on several holes. The front nine is wide open but the course narrows as you move onto the back nine and it also becomes more wooded. It is a tough golf course but more forgiving than it seems. As the only Golf Digest 4-star rated course in the area, Santee National has a longstanding reputation with locals and it is also popular with visitors.

Great little stopover on an I-95 drive

I drove from NC to FL and planned a 4 hour break on the course. I was immediately impressed when walking into the clubhouse. Everything was clean, stocked, and nice, including the pro shop and restaurant (I didn't try the food, but the server was friendly when I got water). The practice area was excellent. The course was in good shape, including green fairways. Even though the pro shop attendant said they got a bunch of rain, they only had a few holes closed to carts, and even those were pretty dry. The greens were mostly good (and pretty fast), but the edges sometimes had little to no grass. My main problem with the course is the layout. There is no tee option between 6125 and 6858 yards (no mixed tee option either). That's simply too big of a difference. There were also several severe doglegs where tall pine trees exclude a driver for anyone but the shortest of hitters, leaving approach shots of 150 or more yards. Even a sharp draw or fade wouldn't help enough. Shortening or cutting down a few trees would make it far more interesting as risk/reward holes rather than target golf.

Nice late winter afternoon

Course was in very good shape for all the rain we've had over the past couple months. For the price and time of year, props to the greenskeeper and staff. Looked like new sand in the bunkers as well. Greens were the best we've played in greater Charleston public affordable courses over the past 3 months.

Good round

Course was cart path only due to excessive amount of rain. However it was still very playable. Would definitely recommend this course.

Always Good Experience

Always a great course. Wet from recent rains. New carts are nice, but they won't last long with the bad cart paths, Probably our only complaint about the course. Staff are always very nice.

Great Course

new carts are nice, they have redone sand traps so are better to hit out of than before where some were like hitting off concrete. course was in great shape especially since it's winter, greens great as usual, pace of play slow due to other golfers lack of etiquette to let slower groups through or singles/doubles play through. Overall, a great place to play in the Charelston area though a ways away from Charleston but worth the drive, especially when considering price and course conditions.

Well kept course - convenient off 95

Stopped on the way back from FL to NY. Enjoyed the course. Had an 11 am tee time.got there early and they were able to get us out early. For the most part played very quickly- very little waiting. Course layout was good and some challenging holes including some long par 3’s.

A Hidden Gem of a Course

One of the quietest course in the Area except for some traffic seen from Hole 8,9, 17 & 18 yet quieter than having an interstate next to you while playing or Big city Noise. A must play great condition course. The Lady running the Restaurant is so welcoming to every guest and does her best to add to the experience. 16th, 17th, 18th, gets backed up some days due to an absence of the Ranger so call the Clubhouse if needed. Many take advantage of the quietness and remoteness taking multiple mulligans.

Great layout

Our first time playing here. Very friendly pro shop person who offered us a course guide which has extremely helpful and detailed. We really enjoyed the course layout with many doglegs and elevation changes in a beautiful rural setting. Nice facilities including well stocked pro shop, snack bar, driving range, and putting green. Carts appeared to be new. Would definitely play here again if in the area.

Always enjoy playing

Great course and staff. Day light is shorter this time of year. It’s becoming more ofter of getting behind large groups of out of town players that’s are slower. They won’t let you play threw.
