The Club at Pine Forest
About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Great layout, rough greens
Absolutely loved the course all the way up until the greens. The layout was fantastic. It was challenging in a good way. The greens were just in horrible shape. Not a lot of green grass and almost every putt outside of 2 feet bounced a lot. Dead spots on greens were prominent as well. If the greens were in great, or even good, shape, then I would give this course 5 stars.
Pine Forest Review
I like the layout of this course BUT the condition of the Greens are TERRIBLE! Some greens are completely burnt out, others have been aerated & putting on them is impossible. Do NOT play here until they FIX the greens. :-(
Save your money
Let’s start by saying the pro shop staff and the starter were very friendly, and the layout was fun and interesting - that’s the only good I can report. Most of the range balls were purchased in about 2010, plus we were hitting off mats (at least the mats were new). Then we moved to the putting green, my comment to my partner was “ I hope this isn’t indicative of the conditions out there.” Well, it was. The pace of there greens were a snail-like 3.0 on the Stimp, except where there was no grass - which was often. (How can one NOT grow grass in South Carolina in May?) The tee pads were hard and beat down, and general course maintenance was generally poor, though the greenside bunkers were above average (at least the few I was in). A side note, we had a reserved tee time at 7:52, but we were after a LARGE group of members (I understand), but there were so many that showed up for the “Blitz”, we teed off about 30 minutes late, and pace was average at best. I don’t know HOW IN THE WORLD this course got a 4 out of 5 rating….
Read Before You Book!
I never write reviews, but my experience at this golf course warrants one. Save your money and play elsewhere. The course did not have enough carts and I did not get one until after my booked tee time had passed. The management does not adhere to a schedule for tee times and sends people off without regard for bookings, resulting in some of the worst pace of play issues I have ever experienced. There is no ranger or staff patrolling the course to ensure pace of play is reasonable. The first 9 holes took approximately 3 hours, which is unacceptable. When we finished the 9th there were two foursomes backed up and still waiting to tee off on the 10th. I would estimate the full 18 would have taken almost 7 hours. The pace of play was so bad I did not play the second 9 and lost out on my money as there are no refunds on GolfNow hot deals. The greens were bumpy, bunkers were not raked, and there was goose feces everywhere. Fairways were in good condition. I watched another player on a different hole drive his cart through a green side bunker and straight onto a green where he parked before putting. There were multiple groups of 5 or more playing as slowly as possible. I watched one guy in a group in front of us hurl his wedge 35 yards into the green after blading a shot resulting in green damage. If you are a serious golfer then this is not the course for you.
Yikes
Rough shape. Geese are the lawn mowers here. Cant find a lie even in the fairways. Greens are slow and manicured like a temp green Not worth it
Had to wait 15 minutes for a cart past tee time
It took my two some A little over 5 hours to play 18. Had to wait 15 minutes for a cart pst out tee time. The course looks a lot better then it did a couple month ago. I believe it should be a little cheaper I don’t think it’s a 40$ course after 3pm but it’s close to home.
All Around Great Place to Play
What a nice course. Played 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. Course was in fine shape. Definitely a bargain
Grandma's outing w/5 yr old Grandson
As a grandma who was born with a natural swing and raised on a country club in Peachtree City GA before it was overpopulated, I take as many opportunities as possible to teach golf etiquette and the general game to my young grandson.
We had so much fun, we saw 100 turtles, 100 geese- it was entertaining to watch one chase off a 2 man group off the tee box, and a rare South Carolina fox squirrel - never seen one before.
The red tee boxes were in better shape than most courses I have played. The greens and sand traps were in great shape too.
Pro shop was awesome, great with info as it was our first time there, grill was friendly, cart was ready and in good shape. The other golfers on the course were helpful when we had to ask for directions to the 11th hole (it was straight ahead....no directional sign means its up ahead) and when we suggested a team skip ahead of us. Turns out we were waiting on them most of the time, but it was great because it offered me time to coach my grandson or watch the wildlife. It took us 4 hours to play 18 holes with about a 20 minute break for grabbing hotdogs to wolf down and inquire at the pro shop about the squirrel that we saw before we set out for the back nine.
If I lived in the area I would recommend this club to be the home club. Should be playing this one again while visiting my grandson.
Need a tee?
The tee boxes were full of broken tees, even at the previous location on the tee box area.
A few of the womens’ tee boxes where not flat and placed oddly.
I didn’t mind, but many greens seemed over protected with mounds, humps, and dips. Might be a challenge for those over a 12 hcp?
Rated pace if play due to cart path only…..but many holes where quite dry in the afternoon. But, I got my steps in!
One of the few courses that jack prices up during Master’s week, worth every penny!
Great value
First time playing this course . Staff was extremely friendly and helpful with the course layout. Water on a majority of the holes. All together a challenging course for a beginner like myself.
An interesting course
This course has ‘good bones’. Hazards that aren’t overwhelming, but will keep you on your toes. The maintenance of the course is acceptable, but the greens really need work. Absent that issue, a nice course.
