Prestwick Country Club
About
Designed in the classic Scottish tradition, our masterful six-million dollar creation by Pete and P.B. Dye surrounds a sparkling 20 acre freshwater lake, bordered on the west by a 20,000 square foot colonial clubhouse.
The front nine winds through a pine forest in the manner reminiscent of the world famous Dye-designed Harbourtown Golf Course. Only 1/4 mile away from the ocean, the back nine is a more open layout similar to Dye's PGA West course and play is influenced by the prevailing ocean wind.
Prestwick features 8 holes where water comes into play.
Over 1.3 million cubic yards of earth were moved in creating towering Scottish berms, stairway and church pew bunkers, and undulating greens. In addition, more than 10,000 railroad ties were used to create another classic Dye design. Dramatic elevation changes ranging up to thirty feet add an exceptional feature to this coastal location.
Prestwick has been recognized as one of South Carolina's top golf courses and remains enjoyable with extremely limited non-member play and great year-round course conditioning.

Challenging Course
Nice layout, course in good shape, starters, rangers, nice. Restaurant, service and food good. Tough, challenging greens, rolling hills, a tough test of golf. Jason, in the pro shop, very friendly. Was windy, the day our group played, making the course play tough.
Hidden Gem in MB
Great Pete Dye layout. Need to think you way around the course. Conditions very good. Greens were some of the best I have played in Myrtle Beach area. Highly recommend playing here.
Very challenging course, large greens
This is a very challenging course, your must pick correct tees or you will have a long tough day. Layout will take you through your bag with most all of your clubs, several par 4's over 400 yards from the white tees! Rough is penal in many areas around course, driving it in the fairways will serve you well. Pace of play was very good, less than 4 hours.
A true test
Prestwick is a Dye special. There is plenty of trouble around the greens. The course offers many different sets of tee's. Prestwick is a challenging course, but when it dry's out it can be one of the toughest courses in the area. A top 5 pick on the grand strand.
Favorite Course in Myrtle Beach
This is a great course with lots of challenging holes but opportunities to score. It has holes that are pretty open and others that are narrow. Staff is very friendly and seem to enjoy having you on the course. Recommend this course as a must for those traveling to Myrtle Beach for golf.
First Time
Great course very challenging in great shape greens run fast and true. Great service!
Nice course..not one of Pete Dyes best.
Played for the first time and was not overly impressed with the staff or the club house. The course was very nice and a playable layout when played from the proper tees. Rough was dried out after the frost from the week before. Greens were slow. I would like to return under better conditions but hope the staff are more accommodating and friendly considering it is a public facility.
Nice course painfully slow play
It was a cold day there had been a frost delay and our noon tee time was pushed back to 12:30..No big deal. But 5:15 to play was painful.....
Pro shop Staff was indifferent they certainly didn't make you feel at home or even welcome.
Layout was nice fairways were generous, rough was dormant so not really a factor, sand was way too fluffy, greens were true, but slow I guess due to the frost and not being cut that day.
Number 9 was a beast playing into a major crosswind (towards the water) ands stay out of the bunkers around that green or you could easily be faced with an impossible shot. Lots of railroad ties. I'm not a huge fan of linksy course but this one was enjoyable.
Very challenging green complexes...
Another top shelf course. I was surprised with the difficulty of the design, particularly around the greens. Plays 3 or 4 shots harder than the TPC of Myrtle Beach, which is quite a challenge. Green complexes are very punishing if you don't hit proper approaches. The greenside grass and sand bunkers can get brutal. Pete Dye is a genius, though sadistic, course architect. Fairways rate an 8, greens an 8 rolling at probably a 8.5 on stimp. I say this is a must play, but do yourself a favor and schedule it later in your trip. I made the mistake of playing this early and on a cold, windy day I struck the ball average and paid big prices numerous times around the greens for missing by just a few yards or mis judging the wind. Don't shoot at pins here unless you're on. Conservative approach shot play with avoid way more doubles than shooting at the pins will yield in birdies here.
Prestwick a Solid Choice
Staff was fine. Don't understand how the staff can affect how some people on here review a golf course. I've never encountered a bad staff. I guess some people expect rose petals to be thrown at their feet as they pull up to the bag drop. Anyhoo, on to what matters. Course is in splendid shape tee to green. No rough to speak of as it's Feb.so that's an advantage. Front nine was nothing spectacular. Don't let the short 1st hole fool ya this course is a bear with a bunch of 375-400 4's. Nothing special about the front it's the back where the layout gets nice with some pretty holes with forced carries over water. Holes 9+18 were vicious with water running up one side of both and woods on the other side. Some nasty bunkers guard these holes too Greens are huge with some baby elephants buried in them. They are in great shape. It was pretty windy when i played and this course got me on this day but i'll be back to seek revenge.
very difficult course for average golfers
this is a tough course. requires target golf with accurate shots. poor shots will end up in very difficult places. very hard to score even if you are striking the ball well. high handicappers will have a very difficult time.
Played Day 1 of Myrtle Beach World Am
Drew this course for my Day 1 course of the Myrtle Beach World Am. Have played Prestwick multiple times thru the years of playing in the World Am. Prestwick never disappoints. We had 2 flights playing on the course for a total of 96 players. The staff handled the event well. Very friendly and courteous.
The course was well manicured, greens were decently fast for summer in Myrtle Beach. Fairways and tee boxes were well covered. The bunkers are not "pretty" (dark, dingy looking sand) but still in good shape.
Probably one of the most playable Dye courses I have ever played.
If in the area, play here.
Also, was told they are now fully public with no members. True or not, no idea.
Great course
played in the world Am today. 50 golfers in our flight and only 5 shot their handicap. One of the hardest courses I have played down in and others agreed. However, we all agreed we can't wait to play it again.
Great day on the course
Overall this was a great day out on the course. For the day after a heavy hour downpour the course held up very well only a few wet spots. Classic Dye layout that is fairly straight forward but if you're on the wrong side of the fairway your score quickly changes. Starter on Hole 1 gave us a lot of detail about the course while we waited to tee off. Only negative is that we weren't told we had to get a coin at the clubhouse to get range balls. Besides that not one complaint.
If you have no where else to play
This course is not worth your time if you can get on somewhere else. Typical yankee starters that never ride the course to ensure everyone is in their correct position on the course.
Great course, interesting employees
First off, Jay Smith, the Head Pro, is a super nice guy. I'll get to the other folks shortly.
If you want a very challenging course with nice but wide enough fairways, incredible bunkering and faster than usual Myrtle Beach greens, I recommend PCC.
As we approached the bag drop, there were 2 gentleman, Dick and Shelton. Shelton was an interesting cat. We were behind on our tee time from playing a morning round; I called the pro shop 20" before we were scheduled to tee off to let them know we were trying to get to PCC rapidly - the guy who answered was not friendly. He seemed to be inconvenienced by taking my green and cart fees - that's why staff gets a poor rating here. Shelton at the bag drop on the other hand informed us the golf carts would shut off at 7pm - whether he was trying to be funny or not, golf and courses in general ain't getting the play like the salad days 12-20 years ago. His tone was not welcomed at this point but then he seemed to soften as he described the course. He really softened when our group made the turn in 1'50". "Oh, you'll be done by 7:30" he said with a smile. So, maybe he's a guy with dry wit. Enough of that - on to describing the course.
Course - tee boxes, fairways, rough, bunkers and greens - were all in great shape. Lots of variety at PCC. Holes 16-18 will give you all the challenge one needs. Hole 1 was quirky - even if you hit a drive right down the middle, you contend with a large hardwood on your left that guards the green from 50 yards out - have a draw if you're a righty.
In summary, play Prestwick.
a good golf course
Very pretty and challenging golf course. More player friendly than most Dye courses. Great layout and course should be spectacular as Bermuda comes in.
I look forward to playing again
Will play again!
very friendly staff; course is definitely well cared for; greens seemed like they hadn't been cut in a few days, probably owing to the wet weather, made for slightly slower speeds but still tricky to read; tough course with lots of uneven lies, forced carry, and plenty of water; will certainly be back to play this one again
Great Golf Course
Great greens, nice and wide fairways. Excellent conditions!!!
Great challenge
Undulating greens. Fairways were wide but lots of water.
