About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

It was good overall
First time here but was mostly pleased with the experience. The practice putting area was rather small and greens could use some maintenance. Layouts had a good mix of challenges but was somewhat disappointed that the greens were aerated recently and cause a lot of irregularities on the ball speed and direction. It would have been nice to have been warned ahead of time and why do you aerate on such a time that it affects play on a busy and important holiday week.
Great spot
Had a great outing - great value as green fees included range balls and lunch. Course was in really good shape except I thought the sand traps were too hard packed (guess I should have stayed away from them). Course is a little tricky if you’re not familiar with it and the carts don’t have any gps on them. Staff was friendly and we had a great day. Will be back for sure.

Toxic Foamy Greens
We teed off at 6:42 am and played behind the chemical spray of a maintenance tractor for 8 holes in a row. There was a horrible toxic smell and chemical foam on the greens. All four of us players had a taste in our mouths and smelled this chemical more than half our round.Gross.

Great staff and excellent course!
I have played Sterling Hills several times and it has always been a great experience! Excellent customer service provided by the staff on every occasion and the course is in very good shape. Course layout is really nice, and I have never been "backed up" while playing. I'll return to play this course!

Course is not improving. It seems that compliancy is taking over. People are playing more and golf courses are taking the money in.
Greens are spiked and ir does not look like much sand is applied to fill in holes. Balls are very bouncy ,,, place of play is super slow not way to finished the course from noon on. A Marshall will help a lot to speed the pace. Frustrating round

Great value not far from LA
I believe the cost is $71 and you get a free small bucket of range balls for warmup as well as a small lunch with chips. Greens were punched but it’s that season. Some maintenance being done but never going to let that get in the way of great fun. Can’t wait to get back here and beat my score!

Staff needs a lesson on customer service
We have played here often, mostly on Mondays when our private golf club is closed for maintenance..,,,and EVERY single time , the check in staff is BLAND, NOT friendly and can't get rid of us fast enough !!! There is a Hispanic older gentleman who is always there, and can not smile, can not be friendly and can not be bothered, and it is not the first time, but every single time....I actually hate checking in to this course because I know I will be faced with this horrible person. Also, on the course itself, the maintenance guy was spraying while we were playing, and never stopped or cared that we were hitting in to the fairway while he was doing so...and laughed at us because we could not find our ball due to the white foam he was spraying as we played....TOTAL WASTE OF TIME

Enjoyable course with nice layout. Played a bit slow with waiting on most holes. Conditions were solid and recovering from aeration

Greens were in horrible shape. Food was below average.

Great course for the money
Really enjoyed playing, the pace of play was under four hours, they had punch the greens but they were starting to come back, should be in great shape right now.
