About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Course conditions
I've been round here several times.
The price was good, I liked the course layout, and everything was good, so I enjoyed the round.
Golf
I play sterling Hills most every Monday. My only issues are inconsistent traps and slow play they need marshals to keep the things moving faster. Otherwise it’s a great course. I’ve been playing there Since it first opened

Those pictures say it all. Beautiful!
Except for the angry, barking dog off leash and running through bunkers , all is well. I do have an issue with employees maintaining the butterfly area as they should focus on the course maintenance. Chris told me when we donated $ to the cause that folks from the Tower Club would pull weeks. She needs to take responsibility for her causes.

Improving, but a long ways to go.
Sterling is a decent option when it is too hot elsewhere. The greens are generally good, but the fairways and rough are spotty at best. The lunch area is depressing and the bathroom area smells like a sewer.

Satisfied but not pleased
This fun course is well designed and worth the price we paid for. Good layout and well maintained greens were notables. Several complaints worth mentioning, it was slow pace and there were no marshall to oversight the pace as the course was packed along with push cart golfers couldn't keep up with skills and pace to accommodate other players.
It is worth driving from L.A. and I would revisit again in the future.

Course in very nice shape
This course can get ratty but recently it's been in very nice condition. Even the traps have good sand in them. Very few rough spots. Mostly very playable.
Love the layout. No boredom here.

I walked the back 9 starting at 7:30am, and there was no one in front or behind us the whole time...The course was in great shape, and the weather was perfect.

Slow play.
5 hour 15 minuter plus round unacceptable for this course. Waited on every shot all day long.

Great course many interesting holes
Graet layout with good fast greens with many interesting holes including 1st, 4th, 13th, 14th, 15th and my favourite the 12th. Will definitely play here again.

Really Good Experience as Usual
Sterling Hills continues to be a gem off the beaten path. It's a 45 minute drive for me, but worth the travel. The greens are quicker than LA muni's, the course has personality without being obnoxious, and the staff is always friendly. I like what SH has done over the last few years, it's not resting on its heels collecting money from the new covid golfers. SH seems to be reinvesting in the course and keeping the conditions nice and smooth.
