About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Course is not improving. It seems that compliancy is taking over. People are playing more and golf courses are taking the money in.
Greens are spiked and ir does not look like much sand is applied to fill in holes. Balls are very bouncy ,,, place of play is super slow not way to finished the course from noon on. A Marshall will help a lot to speed the pace. Frustrating round

Great value not far from LA
I believe the cost is $71 and you get a free small bucket of range balls for warmup as well as a small lunch with chips. Greens were punched but it’s that season. Some maintenance being done but never going to let that get in the way of great fun. Can’t wait to get back here and beat my score!

Staff needs a lesson on customer service
We have played here often, mostly on Mondays when our private golf club is closed for maintenance..,,,and EVERY single time , the check in staff is BLAND, NOT friendly and can't get rid of us fast enough !!! There is a Hispanic older gentleman who is always there, and can not smile, can not be friendly and can not be bothered, and it is not the first time, but every single time....I actually hate checking in to this course because I know I will be faced with this horrible person. Also, on the course itself, the maintenance guy was spraying while we were playing, and never stopped or cared that we were hitting in to the fairway while he was doing so...and laughed at us because we could not find our ball due to the white foam he was spraying as we played....TOTAL WASTE OF TIME

Enjoyable course with nice layout. Played a bit slow with waiting on most holes. Conditions were solid and recovering from aeration

Greens were in horrible shape. Food was below average.

Great course for the money
Really enjoyed playing, the pace of play was under four hours, they had punch the greens but they were starting to come back, should be in great shape right now.

Great game
Had the pleasure of playing here recently and although the greens had recently been treated they ran true.
Pace of play was a little slow however that just meant that I was given more time to approve views and the course both of which were superb.
The welcome we received from the staff at all times was amazing and they made us feel special from confirming our start time right through to handing back the cart keys- thank you everyone of you are amazing!!
Final note is any driving range that has AC/DC blasting out is always on to a winner

I've been round here several times.
The price was good, I liked the course layout, and everything was good, so I enjoyed the round.

Golf
I play sterling Hills most every Monday. My only issues are inconsistent traps and slow play they need marshals to keep the things moving faster. Otherwise it’s a great course. I’ve been playing there Since it first opened

Except for the angry, barking dog off leash and running through bunkers , all is well. I do have an issue with employees maintaining the butterfly area as they should focus on the course maintenance. Chris told me when we donated $ to the cause that folks from the Tower Club would pull weeks. She needs to take responsibility for her causes.

Improving, but a long ways to go.
Sterling is a decent option when it is too hot elsewhere. The greens are generally good, but the fairways and rough are spotty at best. The lunch area is depressing and the bathroom area smells like a sewer.
