About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Beautiful course with hills and plenty water hazards
I had a 6:51AM tee time so pace was not an issue. With no one in front, we (3 people) finished in under 4 hours. Greens - very good, fairways - good, tee boxes - fair. The layout was challenging already, but coupled with the extreme winds.... expect to 3 putt often. I had a blast. For comparison, I would say it plays easier then Industry Hills, but more difficult than Ranch Park. Aesthetically, it was beautiful with the ponds, hills, trees, nice homes, etc. It's definitely worth the drive out of the LA area.

Great Course for a bit of challenge
Sterling Hills is a golf course that I have come to really admire and appreciate. It’s challenging without being intimidating, and seems to always be in better shape than many of the Los Angeles area courses. The staff is friendly and the amenities are always available.
Like every other course in Southern California, there is a bit too much traffic and rate of play it’s slower than it should be. The marshals are very nice, maybe too nice. My only complaint here is that when pace gets slow, they are reluctant to put any pressure on the slow groups.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Difficult when windy
Had Santa Ana’s blowing 20+ with wind gusts probably 30-40. Needless to say if u want to score don’t play this course in the wind. However, it was a fun day for us. Incredible when putting downhill with the wind and the ball ending up double the distance from where you started. Not much people, we ended up playing 18 in 4 hours or so.

Brilliant day, brilliant course
Best value for money, it was roughly $55, including a cart, range balls AND a meal at the grill.
The course has always been one of the best in S Cal.
I could play this course every week for eternity.

Pace of play
Not really a huge problem....but there needs to be a marshall to keep play on time .... course upgrades are being put in so bare with the staff and lawn crew
Snack bar is awesome since it comes with your green feed. Give this place a few more months and they will have it all together! Great job guys and gals!

A great day
Despite very windy conditions(unusual) our group had a great day. Dan and Matt were accessible and great to work with. Channels of communication were good in arranging tee times for multiple groups. A fun course with good pace of play. Our club will return.

Good times
From the driving range to the pro shop staff, the snack bar and finally the course it's a nice way to spend the day. Very nice public course. Gold carts are a little dated, but that makes it fun.

Sterling Hills Great value for the money
Great course for the value ! Fairways and Greens are well maintained overall although some of the fairways could use maintenance...ie. # 13,14, 17 and18....bumpy and uneven especially on 13.
Overall, I enjoy playing here...friendly staff.

Not worth the money
Haven’t played here in a while thought it was as nice as it used to be. I just wanted to share my disappointment with it’s fairways and greens bad conditions, I’m definitely not going play here for a while☹️
