Randolph Oaks Golf Course
About
The Randolph Oaks Golf Course is an 18-hole course that provides 7,172 yards of championship golf located only thirty minutes from downtown. After a much-needed update, the course now boasts renovated greens and sand traps that provide more challenge than the original design.
It is an enjoyable course to walk, making it a good option for juniors and seniors. The layout features a cut of rough around the greens, which have several breaks in them that make them pretty tricky. There are also numerous strategically placed sand bunkers. Randolph Oaks is open year-round and it also offers a lighted driving range with putting greens for golfers to get some extra practice.

Great course, great conditions
It’s a great course and it’s well maintained! It was a “holiday” for the base so the course was packed. Part of the success of the course is the draw for more people, so it’s busy. That won’t stop me from coming back again, though. The layout is wonderful and a good track to play, especially for the price.
I'm done
Won't be playing this course anymore. Pace of play is horrible and if I was going to make an educated guess it is because of poor management. Several times I've gone the management or starter said they don't track tee times after noon. To just tee up when ready. Of course this backs you up! Last time I played our tee time was around noon and had to turn the cart in at 6 got through 12 hole, and yes we called the Marshall. We also waited several minutes once for the grounds crew to move off the green, looked like they where having lunch and when we called the club house the employee said to just hit in to them. We did thinking maybe they are off of it just looked like they are on it, but when we got there they all where on the fridge and green still with the tractor. But the final straw was this weekend. Booked a tee toke early in the week, used my golfnow 10 coupon and paid for 4. Got an email the night before saying they could not accommodate our tee time. Lost my coupon and it was too late to book elsewhere. Thanks for wasting a weekend where my group all happen to have off and could finally get together.
Are you a vet?
I’ve been a few times and they’ve told me the course is only open to military or those with a military base pass. They let me play but give me a hard time and make me fill out an application for a base pass. One time the guy at the front desk told me I could be arrested for being on the course property without a military ID or escort. It’s weird because the course has no security entrance and when I call the base main offices they tell me I don’t need a base pass on the golf course. But the golf course insists I do. I’m guessing this is why the course isn’t very busy.
Nice Track - Horrible Pace of Play
Nice Course overall - however the comments about pace of play are right on the money. I saw the Marshall once, and that was when he drove his cart to the cart barn to go home for the day. We waited on every teebox after 3 - this was due to the group 2 groups ahead of ours. They were the definition of slow, plus it did not help that the group in front of us thought they could play from the Whites, when they should have been on Red / Gold.
Overall Observations:
1. Course conditions were fantastic - greens were a bit slow, but they rolled true.
2. Tee boxes for Par 3 holes were being saved, so you had to tee off outside of the normal boxes; which mean "rough" - these could have been better maintained.
3. Warm up area -
3a. range - you will hit off mats, but it was not bad, becuase the mats accepted longer tees vs. hitting off the rubber ones. - Range makers need to be improved though.
3b. putting area - nice and it gave a decent expectation for green speeds on the course and there are some undulations and hills that mimic what is on the course.
3c. bunker area - did not see one - bunkers on course were hit and miss, but generally nice and fluffy sand
There was no beer cart or mention of not having one on the course when I checked in.
Getting There - DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE - it will take you to a gate that is closed on weekends. - use the Randolph AFB Main Gate. Then once you get on the base - it was a bit of a nut-roll trying to find the course, as it is on the other side of the airfield.
Overall - I would play this course again based on cost - for less than $20 as a member of GolfNow you can't find a better deal in the San Antonio area.
Don’t grab if you don’t have Military ID
Made the mistake of booking the time, even if I says open to all. Very upset.
great experience
Staff is helpful and friendly. Very impressed! Course is in great condition.
This course is in great shape
This course must have a stellar maintenance crew. The condition of the fairways and greens is sublime compared to a lot of courses in the area. This climate change is not for the faint of heart and the detail from the bunkers to the edging around the sprinkler heads is on point. I look forward to playing here in the future. Rich runs that pro shop like a true professional.
