Pohick Bay Golf Course
About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Great course, pace of play always a problem.
Marshaling needs improvement, pace of play is terrible. Course conditions were great but players spend too much time looking for wayward tee shots
Greens in great shape; GPS yardage differs from tee box yardage by +40?
I enjoyed this course; the rough is thick but the fairways are great; bring insect repellent biting flies will get you!!
I enjoy the challenges of this course.
Whether you play from the Whites or the Blues, the twists and turns of this course are a challenge to the average golfer.
This course is hilly
I don't know why people walk this course? If you realy want to enjoy this course, then you should ride! It is just too hilly for walking, you will end up with a feeling of being hurried, because of the back up, it can get crowded!
Well maintained, many blind shots and elevation changes, difficult if you haven't played.
This course is in excellent shape, greens very good. Many interesting holes, but also many blind shots and frequent severe elevation changes. Fairways are very narrow and difficult to find if you are not familiar with the course. Rough is deep enough off the fairways that finding your ball takes time. No tee boxes between 5,000 and 6,000 yards. Not friendly for senior players.
Thecourse was in good shape and I would play it again.
The course was good to play. There was a back-up because they ran out of golf cars and they had to wait until the golfers came off the 18th hole. The back-up was approximately 25 minutes. The course was in good shape. I would play it again.
Blind tee shots were fun
difficult course, but almost everyone would shoot lower the second time around
Great Challenge
Great course greens were all the same pace with hard to read breaks. You have to be careful of where the ball is placed on the green. The fairways wet but in good shape.
Beautiful short course, but not for the weekend duffer
At 6,400 yards from the tips, this course is not very long. However, tree lined fairways; sloping fairways doglegs; and fast & undulating greens make this a terrific little course where accuracy matters. The greens are massive and just getting on the green does not guarantee a two or even three putt. All in all, it was a very enjoyable course and I look forward to coming back.
Good, but a bit gimmicky
First time playing Pohick, and I was really impressed by the condition that the course was in. Bonus points for the fact that they even had a couple of guys working on the course in the afternoon, on Sunday (while not impeding the pace of play).
Now, the layout here is pretty interesting. There is a lot elevation change, and it's pretty drastic. And nearly half of the holes have pretty significant doglegs, too. This combination made for a few holes that just seemed gimmicky. Having a blind tee shot, into a dogleg, that leads to a hazard, is a bit much in my opinion. I'm all for challenging holes, but circus putt-putt layouts kind of exceed that. After a few rounds here, though, I guess I could get used to it.
The fairways were good, and the greens were even better. No sign of aerification, and they were rolling fast and true. Traps were in really good shape, too (although a couple really stood out for looking/playing as if they'd been neglected, but the rest really were great).
Pace of play was not great. With at least a hole or two open behind us, I'm pretty sure our threesome could've been moved up at some point. But, the none of the marshals seemed too terribly concerned with the pace. Oh well.
Overall, this a very well maintained course, with a somewhat gimmicky layout that will definitely hold your attention. And pace of play could definitely be worse, for a muni on the weekend. Mostly worth your dollars.
Looks good
The course was in very good condition and will only get better year round. Highly recommended.
Handicap: 2 - Pohick is better than advertised
Greens were in great shape...fast and true. Teeboxes, fairways and rough were lush. This course is challenging your first time as nearly every hole is a dogleg w/ elevation changes and sloping greens (pays to be on the low side of the hole). Beautiful piece of land - heavily wooded with a few water features. Not a single house on the course. Play didnt slow down till the 14th hole.
Overall, I was very impressed with this golf course and will be back.
Nice course w/ minimal drawbacks!
My only complaint about this course is they adhere to a very strict timeline. I was rushed from the driving range to the 1st tee, ten minutes prior to my scheduled tee time, because they were ahead of schedule. Other than that, the course was great and well kept. I would gladly play here again in the future.
Great course
great course. Well maintained. Fast pace of play. greens in good shape. Sand traps are best I have seen around this area. Fun course to play.
Great Shape for Mid-April
The staff was friendly - the course fair but tough - pace of play outstanding for a weekend - far and away the most picturesque of the NVPRA courses!
the course has great green
the course is change a lot since I play now is very good go play
First time playing
Hard to give a solid review w/ course being recently punched. Putting on the greens was almost like hitting from sand trap. HIlly course, lots of blind shots. Would like to go back later to see what course when its in better conditions.
This course was terribly sandy on greens. Worst I've seen.
I was very displeased once i saw the course because no one informed me off the aeration of greens. Although, I know it's that time of year but the sand on the green. I wanted to ask for a refund because i couldn't tell if I was on green or in the sand trap.
This is the best value of any course in the area. Period.
This is by far my favorite course in the area, if you don't want to pay the $50+ to play Laurel Hills. It is challenging but fair. The fairways are open, but the rough can be long, so don't go there. Even in January the course was in good shape. If you typically play Greendale or Ospreys, I don't know why.
Excellent value for the Golfnow booking price.
All of the greens were in great shape.
You could not tell that it is the winter season.
